Help, hope, and spiritual strength for the mom in the trenches. Moms today have a lot to handle! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of raising a family, especially in a culture that’s spiraling away from Christianity at an alarming speed. Yet our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The battle belongs to him, and his strength shines bright when we bring our weaknesses to Him and simply say, “Here. I can’t, but You can.”
Prayers for the Battlefield is a collection of prayers and reflections to help you stay strong through the daily challenges of motherhood. Whether you’re a new mom or a soon-to-be empty nester, Heidi St. John writes Scripture-filled and Spirit-infused prayers for every season of motherhood, helping you raise God-fearing children who will live out their love for Christ and make a difference in our world.
Let God determine the outcome of the battles you’re facing today―because the ultimate victory belongs to him.
Heidi St John is a mother, a grandmother, and a wife of 25 years. She is a popular conference speaker, radio personality, author and blogger whose message of returning to God’s Word and embracing our ministry as mothers has resonated with several hundred thousand followers in social media, through books, and radio appearances. Her refreshingly transparent, vulnerable style allows her readers to identify with her and invites them to join as fellow pilgrims on a journey rather than idolizing the author as someone who has “arrived”. Her calendar regularly has her speaking across the United States over twenty times in front of audiences as large as 20,000. Heidi lives in Battle Ground, Washington with her husband and five of their seven children ranging from age kindergarten to adulthood. By far my favorite devotional type book I’ve ever read on motherhood. It left me so convicted and encouraged throughout each chapter. Heidi left me with so much to chew on and mull over in my own motherhood and how I bring all things back to the Lord in prayer (or at least I should)! I highly recommend this book and I will be going through it again and again!
It's not often you can say a book completely changed the trajectory of your life, but this one honestly has done just that for me. I think life as a mom had just been hard for so long that I'd allowed the wounds and battles to lull me to sleep. I became so focused on the immediate that I stopped fighting and looking ahead for the future. Survival mode zaps you of strength to fight or perhaps you fight, but you fight the wrong battles ineffectively. Heidi's new book has reawakened the warrior inside of me to find the strength and hope to battle for the hearts and minds of my children, my marriage and myself. Something amazing about the book is that it speaks to every season of motherhood so whether you're just beginning the journey or watching your kids leave the nest, it's perfect. Even great for grandmothers or those who want to start with a strong foundation for the kids they will have some day. I thought this book would be most effective in benefiting my children, which it certainly will, but it has honestly changed ME! I'm armed and ready to get off the bench and on the battlefield. Becaus this book is powerful, honest and heartfelt AND saturated in Scripture, I'm equipped to take back what I've lost, engage deeper and ready to watch Him work. It's never too late to make a difference!
This book gave words to all my heart was feeling as a mother and the desire to do it by the Spirit. Loved it! I listened to audio but will be purchasing.
Prayers for the Battlefield by Heidi St. John is a book you want in your collection of resources. From angels to worry and everything in between, Heidi will teach you how to put on your armor and get in the spiritual battle through intentional prayer. Her authentic stories continue to make you feel like you're sitting down with a friend over a cup of coffee to talk about life and just be real. Those stories combined with her use of scripture in prayer teach you how to be just that real with God. Let's face it - it's easy to let ourselves get sidelined in the battle as the busy-ness of life jumps to the forefront and our Bibles and prayer life begin to gather dust. Not only does Prayers for the Battlefield remind us of how important it is to stay in the fight and in the Word, it teaches us how to do it and come out stronger and more faithful on the other side. It's time for all of us to get off the bench.
This brief (159) page book has 31 sections of inspirational writing which include wise advice and practical tips on how to stay “Momstrong” in our everyday struggles. The text covers everything from parenting to healing from tragedy. For young, new moms to grandmothers who want to continue influencing their families. Contains a topical Index
What an great encouragement to read this book at this moment - exactly what I needed. Highly recommended! I believe I will be reading this book over and over.
This is a powerful little book. I’ve been a Christian for a long time but am just now learning the power of praying scripture over situations in my life. This book is a gold mine. Each short chapter tackles a specific focus/struggle of motherhood and gives a devotion, a prayer, AND scripture verses to pray over the situation. Chapters include “A prayer for the Mom who feels overwhelmed,” “a prayer for the Mom who wants to set a good example,” and “a prayer for the Mom who wants to shepherd like Jesus.” A vital resource for all moms. Great gift idea also.
Do you need help praying for your family? Heidi has put together powerful prayers to help. In her new book, Prayers for the Battlefield she challenges us to get #offthebench. Our families need strong and fearless praying moms to counter the cultural norm, the status quo, the Anti Christ movement that our families face everyday.
I love Heidi's writing. It is simple to the point and filled with honest love for a lost world, family and for this generation. You will find yourself in this collection of prayers and reflections to help you stay in the battle.
Being a wife and mother are two of the greatest things in my life. This book will help you stay the course in prayer, whether you are a new mom or a grandma and everything in between. Heidi is committed to help us stay MomStrong with the Spirit filled prayers with scripture. The only way to pray in my humble opinion.
Prayers for the Battlefield is for every season of motherhood. As long as we have breath we have influence in our children's lives. Let's put on our armor and engage the enemy in the battle for future generations.
Rise up women of God, the King of heavens army has our backs. He will never leave us or forsake us. What legacy do you want to leave? Spirit filled scripture led prayer is a super natural.
Jesus says in John 14:12-14 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
Finally, be encouraged sisters, we can dance on the battlefield even in the trials of life because the victory is already won and belongs to the Lord.
I highly recommend this book and it will be living on my side table or bedside. It makes a great gift and also great for a time of sharing with other ladies. Imagine praying these prayers in a group? #offthebench
Raising a family in this generation has forced me into a battlefield. The opinions of others are continually being hurled at me. Whether it's a stranger at the grocery store, a concerned relative, or acquaintances on social media, I feel constantly bombarded with conflicting ideas of how to raise my kids well. There is no doubt that "we are at a cultural crossroads, and the battle for the minds and hearts of our children is raging all around us".
Through "Prayers for the Battlefield", Heidi St. John has breathed hope and inspiration into my heart. Through her transparent writing she acknowledges the fears, heartaches, and frustrations of parenthood, while at the same time gently prompting us out of despondency and into our armour. She has encouraged me to receive wisdom from God's Word - my sword for battle.
Prayers for the Battlefield is based on the analogy that our children are as arrows in the hands of a warrior (Psalm 127). Each chapter begins with scripture and ends with a heartfelt prayer, both pertinent to the story Heidi writes in between. Every segment is relevant to the hearts of mothers in today's culture.
"Prayers for the Battlefield" is more than a battle cry. It is a shout of triumph for the daily victories!! It can be read from cover to cover as a learning resource. It can be used as a reference for truth in specific times of need. It can be used as a daily devotional to enlighten and encourage.
My heart echoes this prayer that Heidi prays: "Sometimes I wonder why You give inexperienced women like me the privilege of raising Your children, but I want to train them well. Help me to shape my arrows with good teaching. Help me to immerse them in Your Word. May they fly far and true, and may they have an eternal impact for the Kingdom.......Give me patience for the times when I feel like I can't lift my bow. Give me peace for when the battle seems more than I can bear. And give me courage to release my arrows when the time is right."
I received a complimentary copy of Prayers for the Battlefield from Tyndale Blog Network, in exchange for a honest review.
Prayers for the Battlefield: Staying MomStrong in the Fight for Your Family and Faith is such an appropriate title for this amazing book. With all the technology available today, it would seem life would be easier for us Moms. With all of the responsibilities, we often just get caught up in trying to survive, and we forget we are in a constant spiritual battle. This book is full of scripture, reflections and prayers to help us remember to rely on God, and stay MomStrong.
This book would be wonderful for any season of motherhood, from a new Mom to an empty nester, to becoming a Grandma. I love how the author, Heidi St. John reflects on the importance of raising children who love and know the Lord. It reminds us Moms that God is in control, and how with this faith, weakness in us becomes strength in Christ.
There are six sections in this book, and each section has about 5 chapters each. Each chapter starts with scripture, a story of reflection, a prayer, and scriptures to reference in your Bible. I enjoyed all aspects of this structure, especially referencing scripture in the Bible. This helped me tremendously with my quiet time with the Lord. I was able to focus and start my days with this knowledge, and each chapter took me less than 15 minutes to read through and reference my Bible.
I would definitely recommend this book to every Mom I know. We are so hard on ourselves as woman, wives, and mothers. This book is a beautiful reminder that we are the Lord's, and our lives are His as long as we give that control over to Him.
I've been a long time follower of Heidi St. John's. I have read each of her books many times. Our homeschool group just finished the Becoming MomStrong Bible study. It was so helpful and encouraging to all of us. She talked many times in Becoming MomStrong about how motherhood and really parenthood is a battlefield. Here we are parents, raising our children in a world where there is uncertainty, attacks on our beliefs from all sides, feeling alone or unworthy, being attacked spiritually and so much more. Make no mistake, parenthood is a battle! That's where this book comes in.
In Prayers for the Battlefield, Heidi shares her story, scriptures and has prayers that are written with scripture to back it up. The chapters cover topics such as feeling overwhelmed, feeling burdened, the weary mom, the mom who wants to be like Jesus, the mom who has children leaving the home and many more. Each chapter will leave you feeling encouraged and more battle ready. The prayers have been super helpful as I struggle with how to pray effectively. I love how each prayer ties into each chapter. I have so many places that are highlighted, underlined because they made an impact on me.
If you are looking for a tool to have in your arsenal as a mom, then this is one I recommend wholeheartedly! Whether you use it as a daily devotional or choose the topic with which you are struggling with the most, you will be glad you have this book. It's small enough to fit in your purse and take with you wherever you go. The battle is all around us. Be prepared.
Love, Love, Love! A reference guide on prayer that every mom in every season needs! Heidi encourages you to see that we are in a battle for the hearts and minds of our children and future generations. This culture and the world we live in is fighting to pull them away from truth and the Lord. We need to get off the bench and into the battle for them. We need to be in the Word daily and praying daily! How can we give them what we don’t have? Each section addresses a different topic that we all have or will struggle with (like: To the mom who is afraid, worried, wants to be a good example etc.) Heidi shares a verse and then a personal story or biblical explanation to go along with each topic. At the end there is a beautifully written prayer that incorporates lots of scripture. There are also more scripture references so you can dig deeper! I loved the prayers! They were great for a tired mama of 4 kiddos under 6 who struggles to find the words and scriptures to pray. I love that I can pick up the book, look up the topic I’m struggling with and find verses, encouragement and prayer in a couple of quick pages. You can see Heidi’s heart and desire to equip moms to raise a Godly generation of children on these pages. Heidi’s words made me want to dive into scripture and prayer and ready myself to fight for my faith and my family!
As a prayer warrior, I have read countless books, by many Christian authors, on the subject of prayer. All were awesome, but none have touched me in such a personal and profound way as Heidi's book has. This book is different in that it teaches us how to pray the scriptures for whatever season of life we are in as mothers. I especially appreciate the fact that the prayers are geared toward, not only what season moms are in, but cover whatever difficulties she may be going through at that particular moment. Wisdom and prayers can be found for the overwhelmed mom, the mom who needs courage, the mom facing an unplanned pregnancy, the brokenhearted mom of a prodigal, and the mom who needs supernatural help- just to name a few. Heidi provides wisdom and encouragement from the Scriptures along with “weaponry” that we warrior moms so vitally need on this battlefield we call life. Heidi also so beautifully shares personal reflections from her heart about her life that had me crying from chapter to chapter. Her transparency is something to be admired and appreciated. Her devotion to God, her family, and to the moms of the world are so very evident throughout the pages of this book and you can feel that passion as well as her sense of urgency for we moms to "get off the bench" and on to the battlefield!
This book helps moms pray diligently and specifically for their families and children. So many of us moms want to pray, but we don’t realize how crucial it is for the health and well-being of our families. Heidi St. John writes from experience, touching on the most critical areas that need prayer in our homes.
I like the relevant topics in this book as a mom of one teen and two tweens. The prayers are brief and written in a power-packed, convenient format for moms-on-the-go. The book is small enough to fit in a purse, which is an added bonus. Moms who feel too busy or too scattered to pray will find focused, motivational prayers in this book.
Several of my posts on spiritual warfare have been very popular with readers like you. I appreciate that Heidi writes frankly about this topic in her book. She teaches moms that spiritual warfare is real, and that prayer is the key to fighting the enemy’s attempts to wage war on the next generation. This book is a powerhouse packed in a lovely gold-and-purple package, and I will be revisiting it many more times in the future. I highly recommend it to moms who want to know more about praying specific and powerful prayers over their families.
Tyndale House generously granted me a preview copy of Prayers for the Battlefield.
Every mom should have at least one copy of Prayers for the Battlefield, by Heidi St. John. Heidi is a wife, a homeschool mom of 7 children, an author of 7 books, a speaker, and has a new website http://momstronginternational.com/ where she leads a scripture writing challenge every month, along with a Bible study that she has written. Heidi isn’t afraid to tell it like it is, especially when it comes to her children. This book has thirty-one beautifully written prayers and devotions, written by Heidi, to go with different topics such as, for the mom who feels powerless, for the mom who needs a good offense, and for a mom who is facing the unexpected. Heidi has poured her heart out into these prayers, and short devotions, to help her fellow moms to fight the spiritual battle going on for their children. Because, whether we like it or not, there is a spiritual battle going on. Heidi St. John, so graciously, helps equip us moms to fight, with this wonderful book. I feel so blessed to be a part of the launch team, and preview, this book. Get your planners out because this book launches on September 18, 2018.
I love this book. I was blessed to be a part of her launch group for this book. As a mom of three boys ages 16, 12 and 11 I was encouraged to never give up. As Heidi says "We cannot give our children what we don't have" we need to show our kids that we need to come and bow down on our knees before the throne of God. Prayer is our biggest and most powerful weapon against our enemy. Ephesians 6:17-18 says " and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints". We need to fight on our knees for our children. I was so overwhelmed at moments felt so hopeless with all the ups and downs in school and at home as my husband and I are raising our children to be faithful to God at home, in school and everywhere, Heidi's book came as an answered prayer to my hands. Through her testimonies Heidi has wonderfully woven powerful prayers using the word of God. As you read the book you will be equipped to pray God's word.
Heidi St. John has written a helpful and encouraging prayer guide for moms who need a little extra push in their spiritual battle for their family and their faith. "Prayers for the Battlefield" includes 31 prayers which includes a short introduction or devotional that leads into a prayer for a particular need from courage to worry to the search for truth. It covers mom issues, parenting issues, world issues and all sorts of things moms face every day to those that come along every once in a while. You can pick a prayer for whatever you are going through. This is a book that can easily fit into your purse to use to pray on-the-go or to share with others who are facing battles of their own.
This little book is a great gift to moms of any stage of motherhood, or just a gift for yourself.

Prayers for the Battlefield is strategic for every season. The author has been open and honest; she hasn't left out any circumstance you may encounter in your mothering journey. She's written fearlessly for the mom who feels like giving up; the mom with a surprise pregnancy; the mom who's getting ready to let go. Heidi St John speaks out of her own experience, having mothered and homeschooled seven children. Her ministry experience, travelling and interacting with many different women, also makes her a trustworthy resource. The prayers she's written are like tools in your toolbox; you can open this book on any given day and find a prayer that will encourage you, lift you up, and help you draw closer to your Father.
But this isn't just a book of prayers. It's a beautiful picture of motherhood. I felt myself encouraged in my calling as I read: encouraged to see motherhood for what it really is; encouraged that in the good and hard days, the ups and downs, the challenges and the joys, there's nothing so life-altering, nothing so real and beautiful, as a mother's love.
Heidi has done it again! I had the honor and privilege of being on the launch team for Prayers for the battlefield and I can't say enough about how much this book will change your life. Heidi has the rare God given gift of being able to take you through every day life storms and point you straight to God Breathed Scripture each and every time. From the smallest storm to the hardest, drop you to your knees catastrophe, Prayers for the Battlefield walks you through praying straight from the scriptures to battle those storms and feel God's presence. Heidi has the gift of making you laugh and cry all in the same sentence. Her knowledge of today's culture and how we need to prepare our families for those wars we find ourselves in now and will in the future is for me, of the UTMOST importance. She gives us tools to speak boldly about the Battle we are in and sends us back to Scripture each and every time for the TRUTH and armor we need. I can't recommend this book enough for every stage of life.
I received this book from Tyndale. I am in love with this book design. I love all the arrows and I love the meaning behind using the arrows. The Lord describes children as arrows in Psalms and the author uses this visual. Like an arrow, children start with you and go free into the world. It's a simple book and one that I really have needed to read lately, dealing with my three year old. I found the author's writing style calming and comforting. Heidi St. John has seven children, so I know she is seasoned with parenting wisdom. That is how I would describe reading this book. The sections are broken up into prayers for very specific things that come up in parenting life. I really like books/devos like this because no matter what is going on, I can come back too this book multiple times with different problems and be blessed by it. I would definitely recommend this book to any new mom or mom that just needs encouraging. It has encouraged me, while having my second baby this past month. I have come back to the prayers that the author has written out and used them in my own life.
A must have book that will bless every praying mom
This is a wonderful devotional book for moms to encourage us, inspire us, support us and prepare us and our kids for living in our current culture. The devotions are by topic so you can open up and flip right to whatever will build you up for that day. For example there are prayers for the mom who feels overwhelmed, who feels powerless, who wants her child to stay on the path, who needs self-control, and for the worried mom, to name just a few. Each devotion ends with a prayer that prays scripture over ourselves, our families, and our kids. As a bonus, after the prayer there are scripture references which I like to look up so I can see where the verses come from that were used in the prayer. This book has really been a blessing in my life and I’m sure it will bless yours too. This book looks beautiful on the outside and is even better on the inside!
"Know your Bible, precious mom! The Bible contains all the light you need to navigate this dark world effectively. Show the enemy you mean business : read and know God's Word." So many of us young women were not taught how to use the power of scripture in our prayers. Heidi St John crafts these beautiful prayers and takes you back to scripture so you can learn how to gear up and step on to the battlefield. Her new book is encouraging you to get off the bench and not be a reactive Christians but Christians who knows the Word and prays all the time in good times and not just when prayers are needed. You can read straight through the book or go to the prayer that speaks to your season. It's not just a one time read but something to hold on to, to use the scripture references to dig deeper into the Word and make an impact on those around you.
For any fan of Heidi St. John this book is a must read, small in pages but powerful in insight this book is not only a gorgeous looking book but is filled to the brim with keen insight and deep wisdom. I fell in love with Heidi's writing with her book Mom Strong and this book only furthered my love for her. This book is much needed for the battle weary Mom as it redirects ones focus and is a keen reminder that we are preparing our children for battle and how very, very important that is. I am absolutely in love with the fact that the book is written devotional style with little snippet you can start your day off with that are not overwhelming but are very thought provoking and deep. I cannot recommend this book enough, if you are raising the next generation then this book is for you. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I love this book! I am a mom of 3 girls ages, 31, 25 and 20 and was part of the launch team. I wish that I had this book as my girls were growing up but it still helps as they are older. It is for every stage of motherhood. Heidi touches on all aspects and stages of motherhood with encouragement and guidance. Each chapter ends with a prayer to guide you to ask God for his plan for each stage of raising his kids! Heidi reminds all through the book why we do what we do as mothers. It is definitely a book that I will reread and give to my girls as they have children of their own. We need to raise each generation to love and follow the Lord, especially with the immorality of the times we live in. I encourage everyone to read this book!.
This book is such a powerful little devotional! I loved Heidi's book Becoming MomStrong, so I was thrilled to have the chance to review this book, since it works well to read it after it. While Becoming MomStrong is a reminder of the important call of a mother, this book helps focus on the scriptures and prayers that go with the different seasons and walks you may go through on your journey. I really appreciate the important reminders that we are in a spiritual battle, and as moms, we nee to be fully engaged in preparing our children to enter that. I love how encouraging Heidi is and highly recommend picking up both titles! I received this book from Tyndale. This is my honest review and is in no way influenced by receiving a complimentary copy.
I was not familiar with this author when I saw this book available for review; however, as a Mom I was interested due to the description. Moms need to remember we are in a battle and our children need to be covered with our prayers.
I really appreciate this book because of the short personal stories shared by the author and the written prayers. I feel it has been beneficial for me to read and pray these prayers.
This is a great resource to have as you are raising your children. You will be encouraged as you lift up your children to our Father.
The hardback book is nicely designed. I liked the small design that makes it convenient to take along with you.
I received a copy of this book from Tyndale blogger review program for my honest review. Thank you.
I purchased this book from Amazon to read with my sister. All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Prayers for the Battlefield by Heidi St. John. This book is written to speak directly to mothers. Every struggle a mom has with her faith and life in general is in this book with a prayer to move forward to the next chapter in life. It also makes a great quick reference for prayer when you can find what you are struggling with there are prayers worded beautifully to guide you. Life happens too fast and the struggles are real this book give you quick ways to hunt a verse related to that struggle. The one thing I appreciate most about Heidi St. John's books is that they always point you back to the Word of God. What I love about this book in particular is that I can turn to the chapter that I need for whatever situation I am currently facing as a mom and just read that chapter and the Scriptures and prayer that go with it to encourage me in that given situation. It not only encourages me, but it equips me to #GetOffTheBench and #GetInTheBattle for my kids. I highly recommend this book not just for reading once and putting it away, but as a daily resource for reminding me of God's Word for each specific situation I face as a mom.
I LOVE this prayer/devotional book. I really like how it is organized into different prayer sections. Along with my Bible, it has been my go to book for prayer. It has made a BIG difference in my prayer life and has helped me to walk through some difficulties in my family. Heidi St. John has reminded me through this book that the "The battle belongs to the Lord" and the importance of reading and praying the Word of God. I have meet Heidi and heard her speak several times and she is the real deal. She loves the Lord and has a calling to proclaim Scripture and point people back to the Word of God.. MomStrong and Prayers for the Battlefield are among my all-time favorite books.
