As a modern-day healer, JoAnn Griffin only believed what she could feel with her five senses. But when, during a freak country storm, a blinding flash of lightning sent her hurtling back in time, the Pennsylvania physician knew she had to accept what her eyes were telling her ... that somehow she'd crossed the threshold into another century and was, at this very moment, gazing into the smoldering blue eyes of a startlingly handsome stranger!
SHE FOUND A LOVE BEYOND ALL TIME ...
His name was Adam Johnson, and from the moment his powerful arms closed around her, JoAnn was filled with a fierce, inexplicable yearning that defied all reason. Swept from the twentieth century into the fateful year of the Johnstown flood, JoAnn was drawn towards Adam on torrential tides of passion. And even as the raging waters tore him from her arms, she refused to stop believing in their love .... a love that had carried them beyond surrender and beyond time itself to a rapturous and perilous point of no return ...

TIME STORM takes you on a visit to an area of PA that was plagued by a vicious flood that happened in 1889. Rosalyn Alsobrook's history of the area is inserted into the plot to make for an interesting read.
Dr. JoAnn Griffin lost her parents just two weeks before she stumbles on a portal that takes her back in time. It was hard for me to empathize with her character for several reasons. She was suppose to be depressed over her parents' deaths that just happened, yet she managed well for the most part once she went back in time. When her character was weak it was while she acted her part of the doctor in the 1800's. I thought her experience working in an ER and her education should have made for a stronger individual.
The author dates the material when she mentions 'Jarrod Barkley' from the Big Valley, Mel Gibson and Keven Costner. She probably lost a few potential readers that are in their 20's and 30's now because of this.
Perhaps because JoAnn went back and forth between the past and present more than once also didn't help matters. And mentioning several times instead of just once about her sleeze-bag former boyfriend was too much. I found it hard to believe that Adam, the man she fell in love with in the past, would want to marry her when she waffled on so many issues.
The positive part was the history. It caused me to research the Johnstown flood to learn more. I found out that it was the first major disaster relief effort handled by the new American Red Cross, led by Clara Barton.
I would say this story is closer to 2.5 stars. If you like time-travel romances, IMHO it is middle-of-the-road. I have read many books from this genre that have been both better and worse.
Time travel romance! JoAnn, a doctor, travels from 1993 back to 1889 to the time of the Johnstown flood. She travels back and forth between the 2 time periods, first by accident and later because she wants to. The Johnstown flood was interesting to hear about and the suspense near the end made it more interesting!
This book is part fantasy part history. I recommend it to anyone who likes historical romances. It was a wonderful book for me because I grew up in Johnstown. The book centers on the romance between a doctor from the 20th century who ends up in 1889 Johnstown PA. She falls in love and faces the distruction of the 1889 flood, which destroyed Johnstown.
This is one of my all time favorites! It was my first novel to read and I never stopped since then:) it is a great book with interesting events that it'll be so hard to put the book down even for a minute ! Highly highly recommended !
A time travel, going back in time to be part of the Johnstown flood, so sad yet I loved reading this book, even though it was awhile ago still has stayed with me.
This book is about a doctor named JoAnn Griffin who when her parents die she goes into the woods for a walk and comes across a port hole to another time. A time in Johnstown 1889 when there was a terrible flood. After going threw the hole she finds a fellow doctor that has been in a carrige crash and he is in need of her help. She helps the doctor and starts to have feelings for his son, Adam. She stays a weeks but goes back home only to miss Adam very much and she fights the urge to tell him about the flood that will happen. To me the first quarter of the book was kinda slow (2 stars) but the last of it (5 stars) was worth reading the whole thing.
The character don't ring true because their lines have no natural cadence. Plus, the author went out of her way to include pop culture references that are painfully outdated. The time-travel convention was interesting, but not unique enough to carry the book. Adam was convincing enoug, but his relationship with the heroine felt stunted at best. Oh and the best friend, Jean, came across like a parole officer and not a friend. I have no idea why the heroine felt so attached to Jean. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone unless they're willing to overlook all of the above.
