The Corsairs have been driven away but only temporarily. Jillybean knows they’ll be back in even greater numbers, lusting for vengeance. Yet she is trapped on the hilltop surrounded by thousands of zombies and worse, she is out of medicine and fast becoming dangerously unpredictable. Things spiral quickly out of control when she is charged with coldblooded murder, barely escapes a fire that turns the hilltop and half the state to ash, and flees to a city that is being ravaged by a deadly disease. Mike, Stu and Jenn do everything they can to help her, only the building stress cracks Jillybean’s mind wide open and Eve emerges in all her dark glory. In her raging insanity she crowns herself queen—and still the vast Corsair armada draws ever closer.

Book one started this series with a bang, but this book was even better. A lot happens and there's a lot revealed about events in book one that put a whole new spin on things.
Jillybean is such an interesting character, with her multiple personalities she's so unpredictable, I love this element of the story, she's such a complex character and makes the books so much fun to read. The cracks in her sanity become much larger and yet there is purpose behind all of her actions. The way other characters react to her is also interesting, especially when she makes herself a queen and makes it work.
Mike, Stu and Jenn are also central to the story and there's lots of character growth going on in this book. I loved all the interation and the slowly developing romance between Jenn and Mike.
Thrilling and impossible to put down.
The narration is excellent, the style matches book one, the pacing and tone match the strange situations that occur and the character voices are clear, consistent, and recognizable.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
I am a big fan of this series and of Peter Meredith ever since I read his first book! I won't give anything away. His books are so hard to put down!!!! I used to read for a bit before going to sleep but if I pick any of his books to read at night I read until either the night is over or I fall asleep. I cannot put the book down!!! They are exciting, the characters become people you feel you really know!!! I like a lot of authors but I LOVE very few!!! In the shortest amount of time Peter Meredith has been added to my "read anything he writes"!!!! If you want a different type of zombie book (actually books) try these. If you never read a zombie book try these!!! I love that this series is long and I hope it never ends!!!!! Be prepared to read, read, and read with all the ups and downs of actual life. With characters you get to know, hate, like, and love, maybe some you do all of that!!! Go on a adventure that does NOT get dragged down, that gives thrills unlike any other author, that you will hope doesn't end! In other words, read every single book by Peter Meredith if you like adventure, horror, zombies, people, or just love to read well written books!!
Jillybean’s decision to go with Jenn, Stu, and Mike to care for the Hill People back home did not come without danger. Especially danger for Jillybean. Without a steady supply of her psychotropic drugs, she would be unable to keep her hold on the Jillybean persona, allowing Eve to come forward. Eve was all about pain, violence, and vengeance. She hated taking a backseat to Jillybean. The method of travel for all concerned throughout the story is by boat, so there is much to do about sailing, boats, and yes, even pirates. After leaving the Hill People, they take on another call for help from a community suffering from cholera. By now, Jillybean struggles internally with the deaths encountered, at times caused by her unavoidable triage application. Negative thoughts such as these can also hasten the appearance of Eve which is never a good thing. Stu, Mike, and Jenn are well aware of her moods and keep a watchful eye on her. This second volume is all about Jillybean. One might think this would be tedious but the accounts and the characters are so well written that the pages or the minutes fly by.
In a crazy post-apocalyptic world, with zombies 8 and 9 feet tall, you wouldn't think a skinny little girl would even survive, let alone thrive among struggling survivors. "Jillybean" wasn't smart, she was genius. Problem was, she was also one of the most evil, angry, insane people ever crammed into one small mind. Her multiple personalities warred for dominance in her brain. But she has a plan to save - someone.
The zombies aren't the story here, they're just players in Jilly's overcrowded head. Guaranteed, this book will keep you up, sleepless, many a night. If you can figure it out before the end, then you might be as crazy as Jillybean!
Excellent writing, excellent characters, amazing storyline! You're going to love this read!
I really hope Meredith knows what a great series he's created. As usual there is a lot of action in this book. It's nice to see each character develop more and contribute to the storyline. I don't think Jillybean was at her best in the first book in this series. In this one I felt she was more like the character in the first series, a crazy genius. I even began to like her other personalities. The ending was unbelievably good with a custom ending I've rarely seen in other authors. I can't wait for the next book, and the one after that, and the one after that...
I love Jilly Bean. I love the way the author let her mature and grow, even as her illness has progressed. I started this to read about her, but stayed because of the other characters, Jenn, Mike and Stu. I love their daring heroic adventures and their abilities to get into and out of impossible situations. Of course, with Jilly Bean, all things are just that....possible. The zombies kind of took a backseat in this novel, and the human villains took over, which was nice. After all, the zombies are the cause, but the people make the story, right? Keep them coming Peter..
I have read 2 books of this series and unless they change I will read the other 8. A different kind of zombies with a different set of adventurers . I can not get over how well the author has shaped the world to accommodate her protagonists. Jillybean ,Jenn,Mike and Stu are our main combatants who deal out death on a massive scale against a group of opportunistic slavers ,the Corsairs .7 foot tall zombies with a miniscule area of the brain which can be destroyed add to the complicated dance of survival
I gave this story five stars because more weren't available, Peter Meredith is one of the best writer's I've had the pleasure to know! And actually I haven't found a better one yet! I very happy that Jillybean continues! I've loved her and All of the characters in this book and the apocalypse fugitive books I recommend this and all of Mr. Merediths work! You will love Him!!!
Although this book seems to be aimed at kids or teens and there is hardly any zombies in it I found it pretty enjoyable. Nearly all of the action is human against human rather than against living dead, in fact there is scarcely any zombie killing at all. Most of the plot revolves around a split personality psychotic but brilliant young lady and her plan to defeat the evil pirates who are taking over the world and she's the only person to stop them, whether the people helping her want to or not!
I love Jillybean novels because I adore the character. It was a little difficult to believe people accepting Jillybean as a Queen. Of course, the whole genre one has to suspend one's knowledge. Nevertheless, a good read. I hope one day Jillybean will be relieved of her guilt and made whole.
Couldn't put it down! I was torn between wanting to read it as fast as I could and not wanting to finish it too soon and go through the bummer of looking for another book (or series of books hopefully) to read that I like as much as I do these books. Luckily I just checked and there is another one !!!! YAY!!
The hallmark of any great story is character development, and Generation Z expertly does this with not just one protagonist, but a whole handful of them. As for Jillybean, we don't know if she's a protagonist or an antagonist, yet she appears to have her own character(s) development(s) going on. We'll have to keep reading to find out, won't we?
The continuing apocalyptic saga of Jillybean and her friends. Each book just gets better and better, it is amazing how Meredith’s mind must work for him to keep coming up with such compelling, complex, and entertaining stories. Anxiously awaiting the next one!
Peter Meredith takes the reins, and gives you a Jillybean type of ride. One that is both memorable and exciting. It's very hard to put down the book. Then makes you wonder where he can go from there, and rich to find out.
A great book. I was surprising how it got better and better the more you read. I am really looking forward to the next book so hurry up and finish it. Would highly recommend it.
This is yet another great read by Peter Meredith. I hate to accidentally leave a spoiler so I’m just saying this book is good, the series is good but don’t take my word for it...read it!!!
I would recomend this book to all horror readers. Jillybean is my favorite character. She is smart and evil , many twists and turns with these characters, much action and z's
As always with Peter the storyline is full on and the characters amazing. Jillybean is THE best character ever written. I cannot recommend this book enough.
Read this book and the whole series of jillybean stories if you like zombies , heroes and one crazy , brave , scary girl . Can't wait for the next book.
Hard to find words to describe how much i enjoyed this book. I really like the characters as well, especially the queen who is a complicated person to say the least
