Woah! Ok the last few chapters changed the entire tone of the book! Breathing underwater was a strange little book. But charming in its own way. A whimsical tale at the start that turned darker in the last few chapters. I figured it would be a little outlandish from the title the cover and the blurb…and my first impressions were correct. While reading it I thought it would make an excellent artsy film…directed by some eccentric director like Wes Anderson or (then when I got to the end) by Rian Johnson (Knives Out) or someone similar. I think this book would transfer very well to screen and fit perfectly in that indie film niche. Thrown in the mystery and darker aspects you got yourself a compelling mystery. I feel this book is underrated! It was well written and I didn’t really expect the twists at the end!
I’m glad I picked this up from a house I walked past that had a free books sign affixed to the front! I will be adding it to my local book exchange so some other unsuspecting reader can experience it for themselves! Hehe
