Story of a middle-class Bengali boy whose impatience became the reason for his success.
Bikram Dasgupta has seen it all—from a boy who joined IIT Kharagpur for ‘serious fun’ to selling oxygen cylinders in his first job; from being dubbed as an ‘ideas man’ by IT doyen Shiv Nadar to co-founding India’s number one PC company of its time, and then going solo with his own entrepreneurial venture.
I Did it My Way is not a rags-to-riches story, but a fascinating insight into the life and times of someone who didn’t shy away from thinking big and, for whom, progress meant creating his own road and establishing new milestones. Bikram reveals his beliefs, ideas, influences, failures, and successes in a rollercoaster journey of over 30 years, exemplified by a single-minded, near obsessive determination to move ahead in life, despite debacles.
The book is ultimately about reiterating the belief that every person has the power to create their own destiny.

Review
The title of the book caught my attention and this book is a very interesting read. The language is very simple and the author used good choice of words in the book. I personally loved the part where he used his business tactics to expand the business and also become the number one PC manufacturer in the market. Shiv Nadar’s valuable lessons to Bikram impressed and inspired me a lot. He faced a major set back in terms of his entrepreneurship however came up big despite fiasco. The only thing what I disliked in this book was that it was little dragging and rest all things were absolutely fine.
It is what you read when you dont have to that determines what you will be when you cant help it.

Verdict
This book is recommended to people who wants to become a entrepreneur and make it big in their journey. Not to forget an apt book for the book lovers who love memoirs.
Entrepreneurship in a Bengali middle-class family is something unheard of, but this book breaks that glass ceiling. This book is an inspiration for many middle-class people like me who nurtures the idea of becoming an entrepreneur someday in future. This book talks about how passion and focus coupled with a big idea and risk-taking ability can transform an ordinary person into an extra-ordinary entrepreneur.
I have witnessed the boom of IT in India since my childhood days but always wondered how ‘3rd World’ country like India started this journey. After going through this book now I have a clear idea on how few passionate Indian brought the revolution in the country and forever changed the face of IT in India. If someone wants to track the history of IT industry in India, this book is a must read.
An excellent book for those who want to take the plunge into entrepreneurship. The time is never RIGHT; you have to make it RIGHT - Bikram proves it in his story. Thinking big and taking risks are key. I feel charged and putting down my business plan on paper.
They say passion trumps all challenges. Reading this book told me how a few young people changed the face of IT in India just driven by their passion. Bikram Dasgupta's story-telling has to be credited also. While the initial chapters seem a little dragging, I loved the Vizag phase and Bikram's Delhi days. Reminded me of youth yet told me what could have done but did not.
Was driven to take a peek at the book after knowing about "Beer Association of IT" from an FB post. Seemed interesting and fun, especially knowing who were the people behind that group. I finally completed the book and must say it is a wonderful read. The language seemed a little steep for me at times but Google was always beside me to help me through. Overall, a good read.
Paytm, Flipkart, MakeMyTrip and other dotcom companies should read this. Will tell them who were behind the storm that they are riding so successfully today.
Nice story. Tell you how learning can be achieved from such diverse sources such as theatre, fests and tea sellers can help someone become an entrepreneur.
Read about Bikram during my youth when he bagged the Dell deal. The guy was all over the media. Reading about it transports me back to those years. Those guys did change the IT landscape of India
I was not aware that Infinity was the project that kick-started West Bengal's IT career. I cross that building everyday that while going to work, never looked at it that way. Our generation did not even know this story. Thanks to Bikram sir for writing it. I would never look at Infinity the same way again.
From one Dev Anand fan to another; kudos on what you achieved in your life time Bikram Dasgupta. Even our role model would have been proud if he could have read his fan's memoire.
Fluid reading which takes us through a journey of a person who started as an ordinary executive to how he became the leader of India’s No. 1 PC company. The story talks about how fighting against all odds the person not only succeeds in re-writing the history but also acts as an inspiration to youngsters to think big.
