This is book #7 in the Swept Away time travel series of the 1980s. These are very good books written in the early days of home computers when anything might have been possible. In this case, Westport, Connecticut high school student, Ashley, has discovered a way to program her computer, which she named Merlin, to transport people through time. Each book features a different friend who has gone back to an era that they are passionate about.

Ramona DeSalvo is sick and tired of being protected by her 3 older brothers and her boyfriend and she longs for adventure. Then her mother loses her job, her brother has to quit college, and the family will soon be in dire straits. What if she can go back to the days of the pirates in New Orleans and claim some of their booty for herself? So off Ramona goes to the 18th century to meet the famous masked pirate Jean-Pierre and become a pirate herself. But things don't turn out the way she hopes. Each book teaches a sort of lesson- very subtlety.

I highly recommend this vintage 1980s series.
