Trina Matthews lost her husband of sixteen years to a tragic accident. Starting her life over in the small town of Hailey Texas at the age of thirty-eight sounded like the perfect thing to do but she never counted on the loneliness she’d experience.
Navarro Raine is the hottest man she’s ever seen. He’s tall, with piercing blue eyes and Native American looks. He fills her nighttime fantasies and makes her wonder about all the things she missed. Vanilla is the only sex she’s ever had. Navarro has a reputation for being very good in bed.
She just heard that he’s about to lose his family ranch and she comes up with the perfect solution for both of them. Trina is willing to offer Navarro the money to save his ranch if he’ll give her the kind of sex she’s only read about. It might be the craziest thing she’s ever done but she’s made up her mind to proposition Navarro and find out just how hot he really is.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
this quote really got me intrigued! really want to read this!
"Listen to me and listen to me good,” she ground out. “You are an asshole. You don’t tell me what to do, ever. The day you control my life, well, that day is when hell freezes over. I’m not some weak little wife type, asshole, and I don’t need a man to control me or tell me what to do. If you ever try to pull this shit again I’ll show you weak when they have to surgically remove my shoe from your ass. When you walk in the door of my house after you find a way back there, you have five minutes to pack up your things and get the hell out or you’ll need that surgery. I want you to get on a plane, take your miserable, bitchy little bald ass out of my life, and don’t ever come near me again. Do you hear me?"
I freaking loved how different this was from anything Laurann Dohner has written.
Trina is a character you can’t help but root for, she loved her husband but they were just not compatible in the bedroom and for her to have the guts to go up and talk to Navarro and lay it out. Well, that was just all kinds of ballsy.
There was a little dramalama but not too much and it doesn’t last which is always a good thing. But it was interesting how everything fell into place.
Also, I really liked Liz Chastain’s narration, she does sultry and sexy well. Her male voice is pretty great too. ;)
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Before I started it, I read its description and a number of reviews about it and I thought it would be a story about two people who knew exactly what they wanted from each other and they spent all of their time together humping each other like bunnies. But while I was reading it, I realised that although they spent a great deal of time in bed, they also have time to talk, to sleep, to laugh and to care about each other. Trina is offering Navarro money to sleep with her. Navarro was about to lose his ranch, thus he accepts. To an outsider, Navarro would be considered a paid man whore and Trina a cougar who likes to sleep around waving her money and buying whoever she wants badly enough. But when you have a closer look, you realise that both are genuinely nice people. And extremely lonely. The testing of their relationship is based on a number of misunderstandings: The brother in law who is after Trina's money, the brother who thinks he is protecting Navarro, the ex-girlfriend who is trying to crawl back, the ex-wife who left open wounds, an old Rodeo accident, the ghost of a dead husband who used to be a great guy. It takes a lot of effort for Navarro and Trina to admit their feelings -although it will not take them a lot of time. The main events in the book lasted less than 2 weeks. I am so happy this book was republished and repolished and I had the opportunity to discover it!
"The hope is great but the thought of me falling for you and then you walking away from me, well, it scares the fuck out of me. I don't don't think I could survive losing you if I really had you. You make me feel like you want me for the man I am and know you won't leave me just because I can't get you pregnant. You make me feel so damn much but mostly you make me whole when we're together,"
Friday night reread time and I loved it! This book is an unapologetic "get me out of my funk" read and I'm not complaining!
Oxymoronically - a nice smut! Lil sweet, lot raunchy and some ridiculousness. Liked both mcs.
Tighter editing would have made it better and less half-baked. Like when the H's brother is trying to dissuade him from taking up with the h, a rich widow, he repeats this line 4-5 times - I saw the way you look at her and ... Super-annoying!
Sometimes you just feel like a good ole cheesy, predictable smut fest. That is this book. The plot is predictable, the concept is laughable (Trina gives Navarro money to save his ranch in exchange for great sex) but it was FANTASTIC!! I don't always want complicated plots, hidden secrets/agendas, overly alpha "I know what's best no matter what" type men and women who spend 80% of the book fighting their urges.
This was exactly what I was looking for. A simple love story between consenting adults. I loved how they agreed to complete honesty between them and don't try to overly complicate things or change each other. I also enjoyed the characters being older, especially the female. Trina and Navarro have both had thier share of tough times and are just looking for companionship, someone one who excepts them for who they are. I loved the banter between them and liked how they could make jokes and just be themselves.
As a widow myself (who also remarried), I was able to connect with Trina and understand why she felt the need to move, how hard it is to deal with family who are angry over not getting money, and friends who no longer know how to react to you other than with pity or distance.
I will definitely be looking for more titles by this author.
4.5 stars. This book was truly alluring enticing marvelous. I am a little speechless, the different erotic position that Navarro had Trina, it was WOW; hmm. Navarro, love me some Native American with his long black hair and beautiful blue eyes. I was definitely jealous, lol. But the story compelled, it was truly an excellent reading. I was definitely proud of Trina to make a proposition like that, shit, I would to by the look of Navarro. Oh Ryder, I truly wanted to beat him up, I understand he was looking out for his brother, but dayum, he broke there little harmony, nosey brat. Trina was my shero and she finally stand up to her brother-in-law, that (Motherflower) who he thinks he was, money hungry. Plus even though Ryder thought he was doing something correctly he at least try to save her. I applaud you Ms. Dohner, very nice job. Thank you.
This is surprisingly entertaining story. I really enjoyed it. It was light and feel good read. Trina offered Navarro to helped save his ranch through lending a money in exchange of hot sex. And oh boy, Navarro definitely excel in bed. I like Trina and Navarro. Trina is adorable, honest and weak sometimes. I like how straight forward she is to get what she want. I am looking forward for other Raine brothers story.
I really really liked this book. But they had sex every other page. I would have LOVED more character development. But as usual the story was very good!
Navarro Raine is troubled and in pain. He needs to find a solution to save his house. It is the same house he and his brothers have lived in all their lives. The thing is, in order to keep it he has to come up with 20k. He knows there’s no way of getting the money in time but he has a lot to think about. Just when he thinks things could get worse, Trina Mattews enters in his life. She is a beautiful, sexy and imaginative woman who just did the most unexpected thing. He expected a lot of things but not what Trina just asked him. Navarro always knew he satisfied women from top to bottom but never thought innocent Trina wanted him that way as well. Can he satisfy Trina in the way she wants to be treated without letting his heart get in the way?
Trina Mattews was married for sixteen years to a man she thought was her soul mate. The thing is that even though she married for love something passionate and wild was missing in their marriage. Now that she is in Texas, widowed, she wants a new life. She’s been reading books, books that have made her wonder what a sex life is really like. In all the books she has read she has had one man in her mind. Navarro Raine is the perfect man for her and knows that with him she would finally experience everything she has read of for years. Being a good neighbor she does what any neighbor would do by lending a helping hand, one that will benefit both of them. The thing is, can she just have Navarro for sex without letting her heart get in the way again? Can she survive the sex and passion with him?
Three words for Laurann’s book is OH MY GOSH! Laurann Dohner has a wicked, kinky, and fun imagination that will blow your mind away just in the first chapter. Propositioning Mr. Raine has it all in one book that will make you want more of the Raine men. I felt for Navarro in this book for here is a man who has had no love in his life and thought something else beside sex was going on with Trina. Now Trina is not your usual heroine for she is a woman afraid of trying new things. She’s lived a life of obedience and as a meek wife let men control her. Together these two were hot, and each chapter got hotter than ever. Like I said, oh my gosh, this woman rocked this book and I can’t wait for more in this series. You go girl!
After Trina lost her husband she moved to start a new life but has found herself growing more and more lonely, so one night she decides to do something about it. Navarro and his family have owned their ranch for generations but they may loose it because of his brothers gambling and drinking problems. When Trina's husband died she found herself with more cash than she needed so knowing Navarro needs money to save his families ranch she propositions him. Trina will give Navarro the money he needs if he will spend several weeks with her so she can finally know what passion really is. Navarro can't believe a beautiful woman like Trina would ask or have the need but agree's.
As Navarro and Trina begin their contract they both find themselves enjoying each other in and out of the bedroom more than they should and they quickly begging to wonder what will happen when their time is up. But then Navarro's brother finds Trina and Navarro's contract and tries to make his own provisions. To add more complications Trina's deceased husbands family start to meddle and Trina and Navarro come to question if they really knew what the other wanted or each other, and question weather they have finally found the happiness they have been longing for or just a few weeks of passion.
I really liked this book though it is missing something ( and I think that is just because I'm so used to paranormal romances from Laurann Dohner) I really enjoyed this book for what is was. It's a fast, light, hot read, I found myself just having fun while reading it. Navarro is as with all of Mrs. Dohner's other books a great hero she is fantastic at writing a great possessive commanding hero, and just like the other books I liked Trina she was funny and strong but also fragile. All around I liked this book and it was a great book to hold me over while I am waiting(impatiently might I add) for more Laurann Dohner books to be released.
This novel was beautiful. The story was orriented around love and how even when you have loved once you still can find room in your heart to love again. The main character is so devoted to those that she loves and some of the people that don't know her don't see how kind and generous she is. I gave this novel 5 stars because I think that the way the intamacy in this novel was woven into the overall story showed stuning wrinting skills. I believe that from now on I will be measuring books to this one because it drew me in, made me cry, laugh, moan, and smile. I swear anyone who reads this will feel the same way that I did.
I feel as I have found a brilliant mind in Laurann Dohner. This story flows very well and I could not bring myself to put it down. I loved how Navarro and Trina interacted with one another and how their worlds seem to flow off the pages. It shows how one misspoken word can and will wreck havoc on your life.
I would defiantly pick up another one of Laurann’s books. This author knows how to weave a story and keep your interest until the very end. I found this book to be very emotional for me as at one point I was literally shaking.
Sensuality: 5 out of 5 kink: nothing out of the ordinary, doggy style a lot (love it!)
Love Laurann's Cyborg series so I have had this one on my my wishlist for awhile. I am sooo glad I picked it up! The story telling was great and the sex was hot! The brothers were interesting but I didn't care for Ryder's ploy all that much although I realize why he did it. Hope there are more in this series! Loved the cover too but while the male is hot not what I pictured for Navarro in the book. He seems too young and Navarro was in his thirties this guy looks early twenties.
Sex, sex and more sex....that is what Trina wants and Navarro gives it to her...some angst, a misunderstanding or two and more sex with sex toys...my biggest criticism would be that I would have like some kissing, some more kissing and then maybe some kissing. Just saying, loads of "new" experiences are described in detail, but a serious lack of kissing and talking. The barn scene was the only one where I felt these two legitimately connected on a personal rather than physical level. I do want Ryder's story, he was a hoot!
This is by far the best book by this author that I've read. When I compare it to other stories in this classification: 'mid length contemporary erotic romance', the story has a plot, decent characterization, well done sex scenes, and a HEA.
A lonely woman propositions a neighbor. I didn't know if I would like this book or not because the premise didn't really appeal to be. I love this author though so just kept the book in the backburner. Slow start but then I had a good cry. I would recommend this book. ***1/2
This was a very good story. I loved both Trina and Navarro and really enjoyed their story. This is the first book I've read by the author that is a straight cowboy genre (I've read her New Species series and a few others that are more along the lines of PNR) and I'd say she did a great job with it.
Trina is 38 years old and a widow. She was a housewife and basically did everything she could to make her husband happy. She loved him but was very unsatisfied sexually and only had the big O when she took care of herself. When her husband died, Trina moved to another state and bought herself a house in a small town she liked. She had seen Navarro (a local rancher) around and was very attracted to him (even to the point of dreaming about him). When she finds out he has financial issues, she decides to approach him, offering the money he needs in exchange for the physical relationship she's never experienced.
Navarro is one of 5 brothers (he's the second oldest at 36 yrs old). He takes care of the ranch and the family and has to try to save things when his brother takes out a loan on the ranch and keeps it a secret until it's almost in default. When things are looking the worst, Navarro gets a surprise from Trina when she offers (haltingly and with much blushing) to help him out of his predicament in exchange for sex. He's sure she's joking but when he realizes she isn't, he's willing since it'll help him out of his bind and he's attracted to her as well.
Trina and Navarro start their arrangement and the sex is hot (it's not BDMS but they explore some toy use, bondage and anal). While they're having sex, Navarro and Trina get to know each other. They're both good people and as they talk and get to know each other, they get in deeper than just sex between them. Within the first week they both are feeling it. Navarro is willing to go with it and explore what they have. Trina's a little more unsure because she thinks she'll come out of it at the end of the 2 months (the agreed upon time for their arrangement) with a broken heart. Trina doesn't pull away though and wants to be with Navarro, until an unfortunate encounter leads her to believe untruths.
As things are going pretty well for Trina and Navarro, his brother, Ryder, shows up at the ranch. He get snoopy and finds out about their agreement. TBH, Ryder is an asshat. He decides that he's not satisfied with the situation (even though when you look at his arguments and what he tells everyone you can see he's full of shit!) and proceeds to lie to Trina and Navarro and splits them up. Both Trina and Navarro are miserable and things aren't helped by an untimely visit by her late husband's brother who keeps trying to get money out of her. Things are looking pretty sad when the truth finally comes out, Navarro realizes what his brother did and goes to straighten things out with Trina. With some effort, Navarro is able to convince Trina to talk things out with him and they realize the truth of what happened and that they want to be together. We get a great ending with a very satisfying HEA.
I really liked this book. Navarro and Trina are great and I was very happy they got together. They deserved their happiness and I'm glad they were able to get past the dumb actions of others to be together. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up! :D
. Trina the lonely housewife and Navarro the lonely rancher. Two lonely hearts find each other through a business transaction. She pays him the money he needs to keep the ranch in exchange for his teaching her passion in bed. But then his brother and her brother-in-law cause trouble.
This is one of my all time favourites. I read it years ago but revisit it regularly in audio format. It has all the feels, is super sexy and I love the MCs. Plus a lovely grovel at the end! If you want an epilogue, just read the next one about his brother, River.
Safety is good
This is one of my favourite series by this author and I keep hoping she will finish it, as there are still 3 brothers and a close friend who need to find love too. (Although it will be hard to redeem Ryder after this one...)
Sigh... I have no issues with the H. The h, OTOH... Her relating her late husband's bedroom skills bothered me. A lot, particularly since on the same page she'd be professing that she loved him a lot. It came across as...disrespectful. And really, a chick who had the balls to go rent how to videos on blow jobs couldn't tell the man how she liked to be touched? Then there was the (unnecessary) intrusion of her BIL, the mental reminder that she'd given up her dreams to be the wife her late husband wanted - to justify her late husband leaving HER everything instead of his parents/sibling. Errr... I'm not sure why she wouldn't be entitled to his estate since she was married to him. Or why his relatives thought they should have gotten it instead. Eh?
And finally, there are many insults in the world. So why do we only call people asshole? Seriously? That's the only name you can call someone? No dumbass, shithead, dipshit...
On rare occasions (scoffs) -more like all day all day- my mind gets hijacked by this thing called daydreaming. there are no known cures and it's almost impossible to escape once your'e in it's thrall. So, here I was reading this book by one of my favorite gals when my mind goes awandering. The book is in part to blame for some of it, though I would catch myself 3 pages later with no frickin' clue as to how I got there.
Anyways, this book? Boy meets girl, or rather girl finds boy, offers cash for, "whispers" services, aaaand you can imagine what follows. Hot sweaty sex in beds and on chairs, conflict of interests, conflict resolutions and happy culminations leading to the future ahead.. So you see, even though my mind likes to take impromptu vacays, I managed to enjoy the book
I struggled with the beginning of this story, the way Trina delivered the proposition and her awkwardness. I guess that was part of her character, but if she was that shy it was hard for me to believe she would come up with such an idea in the first place.
Moving beyond that Trina and Nav were great together. I really enjoyed reading about their first 5 days together and Nav certainly was a gifted and skilled lover.
The last third of the book went down hill for me due to it following a formula I have seen done time and time again, so I pretty much knew how it would end. Plus I wasn't a fan of the insta-love. Had they completed their 8 week agreement I might have bought it, but after 5 days?
This book is just out and out silly. This does not mean I didn't enjoy it. I did. Our heroine offers to pay off the hero's debt in exchange for sex. She has had a crush on his hotness for a while and when she hears he has broken up with this girlfriend and is about to lose his ranch, she is on it.
She been married forever before she was widowed but in my opinion this proposal took a lot more guts than simply asking the guy out. Silly.
The basic love story is good. The secondaries are all jerk and not needed. The erotic stuff is nice but honestly I skipped all the toy stuff as unnecessary and more like a checklist of erotic to dos.
This was a fun light read as I find most of Dohner's books.
Trina´s alone and gets a great idea, to help out Navarro, who´s in a pinch with money, and at the same time finally get a chance to feel what it´s like to have a successful sexual encounter. Her late husband was not so adventurous in the bedroom and rumor has it that Navarro is more than so. What starts out as a quid pro quo evolves into something more, but then Trina´s brother-in-law appears and Navarro´s brother Ryder start to muddle the water.. . Lots of smexin and some angst. I want to see more of the Raine Brothers. =)
This first book in the riding the Raines series had great reviews now I'm totally understand. The story starts with a very shy widow propositioning Navarro in a bar the story starts straight away great short build up to the good stuff. As this is a money for sex kind of contract between Navarro and Trina, theirs a lot but u don't think half way that u really like something else to happen. Love the big family feel with Navarro family and great HEA.
I enjoyed this book, but there was something about it that was off. Maybe because it didn't seem like they were actually falling in love. I need a book to help me think they are in love before they actually claim to be. Why doesn't he stand up to his brother and just say it? Otherwise I really enjoyed it, but not my favorite of her books at this point, of course nothing could make me love the new species less!
As weird as this concept is, this is heckin cute. I wish there was more being written in the series. Love it.
Honestly.. something about the concept of the heroine exploring her sexuality makes for such an amazing novel. Throw in a cowboy with a dirty mouth and you have yourself a good time...
I love Laurann's writing style. It's so laid back and chill, it makes for a really relaxing read.
