Whatever It Takes

Rate this book
He put me through hell…
And I called it love.
I knew that it was too good to be true, and when Eric Wayne promised me the world?
I should have run fast in the other direction.
Instead of falling for every word…
It should have been no surprise when he dropped me the moment that something better came along, yet when it happened?
He single-handedly crushed my heart into a million pieces
And he never even looked back.
I promised myself that I would never again open myself up to that kind of pain, and for the last six years?
I have kept my word.
I’ve moved on, and created a new life for myself, far away from him.
I never intended to ever have to see his face again.
But fate had other plans…
And the second that a chance encounter brings us back together?
Well, let’s just say, that it’s going to take everything that I have not to fall for him again.
He’s too damn hot to resist…
**
She was the one that got away…
I never meant to hurt Avery, but when I had her?
I was just a stupid kid.
She didn’t deserve the way that things ended, but at the time, I didn’t realize what I was losing.
But now I’m grown…and this man?
Realizes that she is the only woman that could ever own my heart.
I’ve achieved everything in my life that I’ve set my mind to so far, and the only thing missing is the beautiful woman by my side.
And only one woman will do.
Avery.
And when fate drops her back into my lap, she has no choice but to accept the help that I’m all too willing to offer
I’m certain that I will be able to win her back.
No matter how hard she tries to fight it, I’m going to make her see…
That I will do whatever it takes to make her mine.

Don’t care if he was young but lying and cheating on your girlfriend that you “love” is a despicable thing to do and her catching you in the actual act? Yeah well no way could I ever trust this cheater again so good luck to her for taking him back!

And this book makes the 5th today with a crappy hero and a pathetic doormat heroine.
And this is International Women’s day.. what way to empower women. These authors haven’t heard a thing these days about all those strong women supporting women fighting for equality, respect and strength. These authors are going in the opposite direction. What a shame.

He cheated on her more than once and she caught him fucking a woman. Yuck!
Years have passed and he is now a star of the sport while she is a broken single mother and homeless.
Her son's father was married and she did not know.
Ashamed she preferred to be destitute than to return to her father's house.
I think this is ridiculous because she should think about her son and put her tail between her legs and go home.
Our hero finds her again and after some scenes between them to fall in bed together.
Then begins that old story where the heroine is insecure because once cheater always a cheater.
Loving is easy but restoring trust is much more complicated.
I would never forgive him, but our heroine forgave him and he demonstrated his love for her and her son.
He convinced me that he has changed and really loves her.

He was the reason that I didn’t date for almost five years until I fell into the arms of someone like Rob, to begin with.

“Because the last time that I saw you? You were ass up in the air, plowing hard into some college whore, who had her legs wrapped around your neck. I’m surprised you were even able to turn your head in my direction.”

“Yes.” I hear myself shouting. “Yes, I will give you another chance.”

Hero was an asshole who cheated multiple times. When heroine found out he did not fight for her, and never seeks her out, they only reunite years later because he happens to be at the bar she works at, but apparently she is the love of his life, doubt it.
Don’t buy stories where hero does not fight for their love, he conveniently got all the fucking out of his system in the 6 year sepearstions and decided he wanted to settle down with the heroine.

Another cheater that doesn't grovel because [from the blurb]:
And the second that a chance encounter brings us back together?
Well, let’s just say, that it’s going to take everything that I have not to fall for him again.
He’s too damn hot to resist…

I don't care if he's a Frankenstein's monster made up of Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, and any other hot guys named Chris, cheating's not redeemable.

From Holo37 on Amazon: On the H’s part I felt that although he did realize and regret what he did.. he never really felt the full devestation. When ever she was justifiable skittish and brought up what he did in the past, he would always say “this again?” As if he forgot to bring home the milk instead of cheating and lying multiple times. Also I don’t remember that he ever answered he question about why he never sought her out if he realized he loved her and really truly regretted what he did.

Nope. Ut-uh. Screw that guy and the cheating dick he road in on.

Sort of a DNF…. gave up at 50%, skipped to the end.

1. The expression is “couldn’t care less”. if you could care less, it means you care.
2. Toddlers don’t speak like 10 year olds.
3. She has treacherous body syndrome.

I really enjoyed whatever it takes which wasn't a surprise because I loved other books by the author , this can be read as a standalone but I suggest you one click book one the couple from it do make some appearances . The couple were amazing they had a lot of electricity my heart broke for the heroine when we get past chapters It also made me dislike the hero for awhile . Storyline flowed perfectly I thought it was the perfect pace and had me on the edge of my seat . so get your fingers ready to one click this amazing story .

This is book 2 in the Sliding Home Series. I loved Eric and Avery’s story!

Eric has been in love with Avery since High School, but lost her when he cheated on her and broke her heart.

Avery is barely scraping by. She has had two failed relationships and has given up on Love.

When they run into each other after six years Avery is struggling and Eric has his dream job as a professional baseball player. I absolutely loved this story. You get their back story along with what is happening now and I couldn’t put it down! Can’t wait for the next book in this series!

Gross. Cheating caught in the act. She’s such a doormat and back in his bed within a week after reuniting. Why would a woman ever do that? Have some dignity girl. This guy’s only excuse is that it’s been 6 years and he was a dumb kid back then. No license to stray! She should’ve listened to his friend, but no of course a happy ending is in line with this prince. 🤮

****SPOILERS****

“You ever think, you know, what if Audra came crawling back to you? What would you do? Would you consider it? Do you think that you could give her another chance?”

“Are you fucking kidding me? Audra, as in, my whore of an ex-wife?”

I nod.

“Man, over the years, you’ve asked me a lot of dumb ass questions, but that one? Takes the cake. In case your memory is lacking, let me remind you that Audra cheated on me. With, like, everyone.”

“I know.”

“Then why would you...” Understanding dawns in his eyes, and they widen. The look of disgust on his face is plain as day, as he snorts and shakes his head.

“You didn’t.”

“I did.”

He snorts again, before glancing back to Avery.

“How many times?”

“More than once.”

“And she knows?”

My face is grim as I nod.

“Yes.”

“Huh.” Another snort.

He’s silent for a while, focusing his attention on the kids, who are splashing around the shallow end with Jake.

“Did you at least man up and tell her?”

“Not exactly.”

“Huh.” He repeats, before becoming silent again.

“Remember how you found out about Audra?”

His head snaps in my direction as he narrows his eyes.

“That’s how she found out. Showed up one day to my dorm unexpectedly.”

He shakes his head before letting another disgusted sound out of his mouth.

“Yeah. You ain’t getting her back.”

Unfortunately… spoiler alert… HE DID 🤬

This was a DNF for me. I was very disappointed in the writing of this book. I read Bet On It and had high hopes for this one. There are so many errors my head is spinning. She is constantly writing in question then answering herself. Example: There’s a lot going on wright here... and, well. It’s basically a shit show.
It’s like that on every single page. Then the bar managers name is Linda but in 2 different spots her name is Susan. It’s like one person wrote Bet On It and someone else wrote this one.
Also, Eric cheated on Avery and he gets pissed because she has a kid? No. Not his place. He cheated he gets no say in her life. Nor does he get to offer her money.
I made it 36% and I just can’t do the rest. Very disappointed.

Yes, there is cheating but he did grovel a lot and showed that he did love her. Only issue I had was that he didn't try harder to win her back after the initial cheating episode six years prior. They only met by chance again and he pursued her relentlessly, even taking in her son by another man. But had he actively looked for her, it would have been better. H never looked at another woman after h came back into his life, so I believe in their HEA. Also, I think he'll always love her more as she did leave him for a month due to OW's evil machinations, proving that she can live without him while he was miserable. So not a bad story. Cheating is an issue for the h and she makes him apologize a lot for that.

Found this on the Goodreads cheating list.Although it as an effective cheating scenario resulting in some appreciable angst and a somewhat cute, sexy pairing, the tie a bow on them, multiple coincidences were so frequent and formulaic as to be somewhat questionably maddening. As previously loaded alluded I'm all about the cheat ,however it was a major turn off that Avery participated in an adulterous relationship with is her professor .There are just too many nuances of the tale that do not totally compute or corners cut forcibly to fit,but overall it was casually enjoyable experience.

I swear these two were just wow. What a love story and damn how hard and dirty Eric fought to get a second chance from Avery.

Eric and Avery met when he was a senior and she was a junior in high school. Her dad took him under his wings to help Eric get a baseball scholarship. Her dad told him the only thing that he needed to promise was to stay away from his daughter which Eric agreed to. Until he set eyes on said daughter and realized how gorgeous she was and how screwed he was. Avery thought Eric was the finest specimen she’s ever laid eyes on but he was off limits.

These stayed out of each other’s eat majority of the time for months until one weekend all resistance went out the window when they realized how much they were attracted to each other. From there a beautiful relationship started which they hid from everyone. They lived in their own little bubble. That was until Eric went to college and did the unthinkable. Avery never looked back.

Six years later he’s a big shot MLB player and she’s working at a bar. She still hates him and he realized she’s the one that got away. But what he doesn’t know is that a lot has changed about her. He makes it his business to win her over but she’s as stubborn as a mule. Avery didn’t make it easy for him which I liked.

Eric accepted the new Avery and was willing to do everything in his power for her happiness. Avery was trying to get her life back in order and after lots and lots and lots of groveling she gave Eric a second chance even though she still didn’t trust him completely because of incidents in their past. Things were going fine until something despicable happened in which I felt terribly bad for Eric.

There were moments that I wanted Avery to put somethings aside but she was insecure at times. It was a sad moment between these two but then she cane to her senses. The epilogue was cute and u would love to read more about these two.

This was a fast fun read that left the reader feeling satisfied! The baseball theme was there, the stats were legit and the reader felt like they were getting a taste of the baseball season while it is still a bit too cold for it in real life. I will be reading more by this author for sure!

Avery and Eric fell in love when they were in High School, and planned to be together forever, but when he went off the college, he betrayed her in the worst way, breaking her heart completely. From that day on, she never set eyes on him, nor spoke to him again. Through the years, she tried a relationship with another man, which ended with her being pregnant & alone, as he was married, so Avery was done. She was now a single mom, busting her behind to make ends meet, & trying to finish grad school, while completely cynical towards life & men. This is how Eric found her 6 years later at the place she was a bartender at, and he took it as a sign that he could make things right, because he never got over her. Only, he kind of made things worse, so he decided to take over, and help her. And that's all that I'll give away. I know that a lot of people were upset with this story, but I was fully engaged cover to cover. Did I find what Eric did completely horrible? Yes, he deserved to be junk punched over & over again. But here's the thing, everyone deserves a second chance, and it's up to the injured party whether they will give it. Avery put him through the paces, and made him suffer, as she said she would give him that chance, but she didn't truly do so for a long period. Anyhow, I'll get off of my soapbox now. No one can argue Elizabeth Perry's talented writing style, or they wouldn't be happy or upset, because she transports the reader into her world completely to the point that emotions are involved. And no one could argue the sexy times of Eric & Avery lit the sheets up no matter what was happening on the outside. I love this series of flawed man whoring baseball players & the women that bring them to their knees, and cannot wait for more! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Normally I’m not a huge fan of sports romances but I actually really enjoyed this one! The sports aspect was downplayed more and it focused mostly on the background of Eric and Avery. I actually enjoyed that more than I did with Bet On It. I loved how strong and stubborn Avery was. I would be the same way if I was her. Plus Jackson was plain adorable. Great storyline! I would definitely read more by this author.

Hot, fun, emotional and with twists that you do not expect. Great characters that are likeable and relatable. Very well written captivating story with great storyline and plot. I like it is written in dual POV, which gives the reader both the thoughts and feelings of the main characters.
I like to know what happens next, so the epilogue was very welcomed and well written.

I am not into infidelity but I always give people a second chance but for a third they really have to have a good explanation. He was not that likeable in the beginning but luckily people can change. She has absolutely not a good record when it comes to relationships and men. She had a relationship with a married man, but she did not know and now she is a single mother who should think more about her son than herself.

A story that is not for everybody but give it a chance.

Another yummy lovable book. Elizabeth did an amazing job writing this one. I absolutely loved the characters and the story line. Eric runs into the girl that he has always loved and wanted. Little does he know that she will never forgive him for what happened six years ago. Avery has moved on with her life and her heartbreak with her precious son Jacks. But Eric will literally stop at nothing to get her back in his life. I love the love story between these two. I love being able to go back into the past and see why these two are not together and then see how these two make it through so much. My heart broke when she does what she does. But keep reading to see if they get through the storm. A very well written enjoyable book with amazing characters and a great story line.

A young Eric made promises of love & devotion to Avery, the light in his dark world. Until his insecurities tore them apart with Eric doing the unthinkable & breaking her heart. Years later as they bump into each other by chance, Eric knows that it is fate stepping in & he will do everything he can to win her back.

Avery is still picking up pieces of her shredded heart when she sees Eric again. With his determination to win her over, she must find a way to resist him because this time it’s not only her heart on the line, but someone else’s as well.

I love how strong Avery is, making Eric work for her trust. Eric made a lot of mistakes but the one he regrets the most is hurting Avery. This was a great read about forgiveness & redemption. Looking forward to Ryan’s book!

Well....

Hmmm....I am not really sure what to say about this one. It’s a second chance, but the H is just kind of stupid. Though, he did sort of grovel and I like that he accepted the h’s kid, but.... What man let’s his ex-lover lead him to his current lover, when it’s obvious she wants to compromise him. Then the way the h finds out that the H was telling the truth is just plain stupid! Still, the writing is decent.

3.5 ⭐️

What can you say about this book. I’m glad I read it and am not annoyed I paid for it. The guise that the H was young and foolish is getting old. He deserved to grovel so much more than he did. He kind of pushed and in some cases pressured the h to forgive him, and you can 100% understand why she had issue with trust and believing he had changed. I did love how he took her son under his wing and accepted him fairly quickly. Over all if you enjoy the cheating trope with a redeemed H it’s a decent read, realistic with the h’s insecurities

Alpha, hot, superstar that would be Eric. Oh he isn’t perfect and he really died screw up when he was in college. Finding Avery again gives him the chance to prove he has learned from his mistakes. This book was absolutely awesome.
