Messenger: Sydney Elton and the Making of Pentecostalism in Nigeria

Rate this book
Messenger is a study of the life, ministry, and theology of Sydney Granville Elton, a man who believed he had an apostolic message for the church in Nigeria and who stopped at nothing to deliver it. It will inspire you to find your place in prophetic destiny and fulfil it. Elton played the most significant role in shaping Pentecostalism in Nigeria during its first half-century. His impact on the movement was nothing short of revolutionary and his story is crucial to rediscovering the essence that created one of the most vibrant Pentecostal movements in the world. Messenger explores the beginnings of Pentecostalism in Nigeria, bringing alive the stories of its major characters, the passion that catapulted the outpouring into a national phenomenon, and the first major crisis that marked the turning point in its early history. Elton's pivotal role from these early days, and in virtually every significant initiative crucial to its development for fifty years is told in riveting detail. At no other time-when the foundations of Pentecostal Christianity in Nigeria are being vigorously shaken, and when both the church and the nation are in desperate need of a new breed of visionary and courageous leadership-does Elton's bold prophetic vision hold greater significance to our collective spiritual experience. Messenger will impart to you a fresh vision of God's purpose and stir you to be a part of it.

Enlightening indeed.

It is so much exhilarating to catch up on this treasured story, and a good pointer to where ”WE” missed some things. May God give us the heart to exclude the mundanities, and embrace what actually matters.

Wow what a read. Meticulously assembled!

Wow what a read. Meticulously assembled! I know my spiritual history now. I always wondered who was there before the late Idahosa.
