Lover Come Back

Rate this book
Scott Hildreth is a married father of six children. He is an international bestselling romance author who has published more than fifty novels, over half of which have been number one bestsellers. His journey to his current existence, however, wasn’t always an easy one.

He never imagined that a weekend hobby would land him in federal prison, a donut shop would produce the love of his life, or that contemporary romance novels would have his name splashed across the covers.

At one point, he had it all: a house on the hill, a wife, three children, and a rewarding career. After becoming the focus of an ATF investigation, his world was turned upside down.

The legal battle for his freedom ended in a loss on the steps of the United States Supreme Court. In the subsequent trip to federal prison, he lost his wife, contact with his children, and his home.

After serving his prison sentence, he returned to work and reunited with the men in his motorcycle club. Once again on top of the world, but lacking trust in society - and women in general - his only relationship was with his motorcycle.

Three years later, Scott was jobless, carless, penniless, and holding an eviction notice. He then took a chance at a career he had no formal training in - being an author. His inspiration came from a woman he shared a table with in a donut shop.

Fueled by nothing more than his love for her, he clawed his way to the top of the industry and hasn’t looked back since.

Lover Come Back is a true - but often unbelievable - story of loss, sacrifice, second chances, and ultimately, love. It takes the reader on a tear-jerking journey from the horrors of a federal criminal trial to the lush beaches of Naples Florida, where Scott and his family currently reside.

A testament to the pain the human heart can endure, and to the repair that only love can bring, Lover Come Back is a must-read memoir that will cause you to believe that second chances can produce first loves.

This book is about the evolution of Scott Hildreth, transitioning from being falsely accused to spending time in prison to meeting the love of his life, then becoming a successful self-published author.

I though Hildreth wrote prose that was engaging, dramatic, and fast-paced; nevertheless, I was completely unmoved by this story and found him at times boorish and borderline misogynistic.

That said, I'm certainly intrigued enough to give his other books a try.

Lover Come Back is a beautiful memoir detailing the journey of Scott Hildreth and his passion for writing, his love for his family, his loyalty to his brothers, and the woman who changed his life for good!
"Life couldn't get any better."
In Lover Come Back, Scott Hildreth's life is captured and recorded with meticulous detail and raw honesty. He shares his battle with the law, his aspiration to overcome defeat, and his journey from poverty to finding success as an author. Throughout his life, Scott has always valued his family and remained faithful to his MC brothers. When a beautiful blonde entered his life, Scott felt like he could never trust another with his heart again. And yet, through heartbreak and developing trust, Jessica, the beautiful blonde, wiggled her way into his heart and as the story goes "love never fails".

Overall, Lover Come Back is a memoir that anyone would enjoy. It is a story of inspiration and a reminder that life is a gift. Don't squander your moments away. Don't forget to fight for what is right. Don't be afraid to be you...the person you were meant to be. And above all else love fearlessly! I highly recommend this story of love and redemption. As always when Scott Hildreth is writing, my kindle is ready and waiting!

A memoir depicting the author's meeting, walking away, and reunion with the woman who becomes his wife. This is the most gut-wrenching love story I've read in years.

We spend all of five minutes reading time to go from the author’s childhood in a beach town to a federal criminal trial where he is facing twenty years in prison for machine gun charges. We then follow him to prison, see his release, and stand at his side as he’s welcomed back to society by his motorcycle club brethren.

The above events are described in the first five of sixty-seven total chapters in this book.

We then meet Jessica, a woman who has had an other than savory love life. We learn that she is fresh out of an extremely abusive relationship. When she meets Scott, she falls, and falls fast. On the heels of a prison sentence, all Scott wants is to be free.

So, he leaves her.

Years later, Scott has lost his job, his car, his motorcycles, and is losing his home.

As a last-ditch effort to pay his rent, Scott writes a book.

Jessica re-enters his life.

And this is when things get interesting.

Lover Come Back is a tell-all (true) tale about finding love, losing it, and being granted a second chance. It’s gut-wrenching, hard to put down, and eye-opening.
Motorcycle clubs, vigilantes, prison gangs, friends, family, suicide, lost loves, and breaking hearts are only a bit of what we're exposed to.

This book is a rollercoaster ride if there ever was one. In the end, it is one of the best love stories you may ever read.

Written in first person past tense, all from the author’s point of view, Lover Come Back reads as fiction, but it is not.

And that, above all things, is what makes this novel so remarkable.

A must read.

5 “Second chances can bring first loves” stars.

Memoirs are difficult to review, you can review the writing style and the general content, but you can't really judge that person's life and experiences. Well, I suppose you could, but you'd be sort of an asshole. (Someone remind me to delete that part when I submit this to Amazon.) In this case, Lover Come Back isn't all rainbows and butterflies and you may not agree with or connect with some of the parts of Scott's life, but I think, upon reading, we can all agree that Scott and Jess' romance is one for the history books. In terms of the market, the book is unique, as it is a memoir that is more of a personal tale and sort of a secret glimpse into the life of an author who, in my opinion, really has led a significant change in the romance market. It's part tell all, part romance novel and I think that's the reason why it will be a hit.

As a long time fan of Scott Hildreth, I'm lucky to have previously heard some of these stories. It was the detail behind it, the glimpse into how Scott the Author came to be, how his relationship with Jess evolved from friend to lover, how his life experiences and choices really do play such a large part in his character building, that made this book so interesting. I loved reading about his time in his motorcycle club, about that first year with Jess that left such a significant impact on both of them, and about his time in prison for a crime that he did not commit. (Even my man got fired up about that part of the book and I've told him the story before!) My favorite parts though? Scotts interactions with his dad, a man whose words in this novel are unforgettable, a man whose life is larger than the memoir can contain, and his time with Jess. I liked seeing Scott as a son, as a father, and as a life partner. For so many of us he's an author, a male author in a female dominated industry at that, and for some he's a friend and/or an idol. He's personal with his fans, the effort he and Jess make is apparent in every single live feed or silly post they make, but this book takes it a step farther. Lover Come Back lets us see those behind closed doors moments, the affection they share, the fights they had, the sexual relationship that is private to their relationship. I think we can all agree after reading this novel that we all feel like we know them, like we're fortunate to know so much about the man and woman behind some of our favorite novels. Scott Hildreth takes it even further from the special moments we may have shared at signings and makes it personal, with Lover Come Back he makes it so we feel like we are part of all these moments.

I'll admit, just for transparencies sake, that I knew I was going to love this book from the get go. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that this would be a five star read for me, but that's a personal five star rating and I want to highlight how fantastic the book is beyond that as well. The writing in Lover Come Back is on point; the prose, the dialogue, the descriptive detail, and even the character development of these real people is so well done. There are incredibly important secondary characters in this novel and these are the people who carry the book forward, who helped support Scott's life moving forward. Even they feel familiar, to the point where I could hear them as I read. The book is packed with emotion, the kind that you can actually feel while you read, and I'll be the first to say I cried through nearly the entire damn book. There was meaning to everything in this novel and finally it is revealed to us readers just how important right from wrong really is to Scott Hildreth. Well known for the powerful messages in his fiction novels, we get to see how far that hope for right to always prevail goes in Scott's life. It is what he lives and and will die by and the respect I already had for the man grew even larger by the time I read the last word of this memoir.

Lover Come Back is filled with warm and fuzzies, made better by the fact that we know the man and woman in this love story. It's also filled with crass language, some unsavory run ins, and some difficult, yet powerful moments that tugged at my heart. It's a memoir that will please all Hildreth fans and maybe some non-fans, because it's the sort of romance you read in books and in this case, it's all true. Thank you, Scott and Jess, for sharing with us, for giving us everything and then some, and opening the front door of your home to us. It was, and still is, a beautiful life that you share.

I am blown away by the raw power of this book....

I know I give most of Mr. Hildreth's books five star reviews. People probably read them thinking; great, another fan posting a usless review about how word-vomit wonderful they think his book is and blah-blah-blah...well...here goes a review that isn't going to be typical. Beacuse you know what? THIS BOOK? IT. Well. It wasn't anywhere near what I expected, hoped, thought, or anticipated it to be. I spent from the time I got off work as a bookkeeper, which is my honest day job, and saw the book went live....I thought, 'dang-it, I have a Dr appointment and dinner and all this other Friday stuff with the family to do, ok, just gonna one-click and save it for the weekend.' (OHHHHH, I SHOULDA KNOWN BETTER!) Waiting in the Dr office, I started the book, to which my outburst at certian early events surprised me and got me a few side ways looks...(shrugs, usually I'm home, my family is used to this when I read, my daughter just burt into giggles next to me and scolded me saying 'MOO-OOM') Of course then I didn't get to start again till after dinner at about 8:30pm...I laid down to watch a movie and remembered....THE BOOK!....and started again....Oh....My....GOD!.........

Ok....

Well....

I just....

I can't.

I laid there reading the book....hour after hour...enraptured by the rawness and realness...knowing Scott and Jess...following his writing career for over 4-5 years now and meeting them in person.

I. HAD. TEARS.

literally streaming down my face at the LOVE in this book. The powerful feelings you get knowing these people are so real and remembering the times that happened. Like a memory, thinking, 'i like/loved that facebook post' or having my heart filled with such feels because you feel like part of thier family/friends group. It's like going to OZ and seeing behind the curtain for a brief moment of greatness.

Scott's book does a great job of capturing a moment in time. But their love is so much greater than what this book portrays. If you ever get to meet them or talk to them, you will instantly know what I mean.

But amazing job Scott! Beautiful. Simply beautiful. #blessed

Outstanding does not do this book justice! Scott’s ability to write ‘his’ story, and share it with the public, totally surpassed my expectations!

In early 2016 I was determined to read all his published books. By the end of August, I’d read every single one of Scott’s 23+ books. They’ve all flowed seamlessly and they each tell a story. And every last book of his, that I’ve read, has made me a better person.

I’ve never had the opportunity to meet Scott at a signing but one day... I’ve had long discussions with other readers over his characters; some heavy arguments too. I’ve binged on his books for weeks on end. I’ve even re-read some; which I rarely do, for any author. Scott’s that talented.

This book, Lover Come Back, was filled with Scott’s usual writing style. If you didn’t read the blurb, and the names were changed, you’d never know it was HIS true life story. Well, until he’d mention one of his books and I’d be like OMG I remember that scene or character.

I’m in awe of him and Jessica. And their blended family. It’s hard enough to survive a marriage and raise a family without being under a microscope. I’m in complete awe of their ability to share with the world their difficulties, their sorrow, their wants, hopes and dreams. Most importantly, I’m honored to have read their path to finding one another, and becoming a united family.

In my honest opinion, and this is saying a lot for the amount of books I read a year, this is one of my all time favorites.

I do not even know where to begin, this book is amazing. I read it and I was addicted, grasping onto each chapter, not wanting it to end. I couldn't turn the pages quick enough. Scott and Jessica's love story is so beautiful and Scott's writing is so pure, you can feel the emotion coming off each page. I was in awe at this book. You have to read this work of art, HAVE to, no other way to put it. If you love romance, and let's face it we all do, this is a MUST read for everyone, you won't be disappointed. After reading this book it makes you look at love in a different way, meaning if you have given up on love, don't, this book shows you how amazing love can be for everyone.

HOPE, that is the word I want to start with. I do believe that Scott Hildreth’s memoir Lover Come Back is a story of Hope. I believe that none of us walk through this world alone, and thee greatest gift we can give each other is never something that can be purchased in any way it can only be shared. When we share with each other who we are we connect in a way that cannot be described it can only be experienced. To say that what was shared in this novel touched me would not do it justice, I was moved by what I read, and I learned that when LOVE is embraced, we win, and win every time.

This novel is a glimpse into the story of how one man overcame tremendous odds and how when you least expect it love will plop down across the table from you. What impressed this reader most with the story was the humility that was woven through both given and received. The people that were met through the pages of this book, were never afraid to grow, to admit a mistake, to learn, to love and most important to laugh. I am not going to lie there were MANY, MANY, MANY places that I was crying like a baby because what I read touched me so deeply and then it hit me, THAT REALLY HAPPENED. Which resulted in more tears, but tears of almost joy that I was able to learn and grow from what I just read, because it was shared.

So the only thing that makes sense to my little head right now is to thank you, to Scott & Jessica, the Hildreth family and friends, thank you for sharing a glimpse into your journey.

I am very excited to re-read this novel, I cannot wait to discuss with friends, I will definitely be recommending it to EVERYONE!!!!! So get your 1-click finger going or order the paperback, which ever works for you but read this beautiful novel and feel the hope, but more important share it. That is it, that is all I got.

Beautiful and Amazing

After finishing Lover Come Back, I needed a few moments to compose myself before I wrote my review. Anyone that knows me knows that I am a HUGE fan of Scott’s work. That pales in comparison my fan girl status of him and Jess as every day humble people. Lover Come Back gives us a glimpse into their life from before they met to shortly after their move to Florida.

Anyone that follows Scott knows he is very candid about his life. He has given us nuggets about his past and being a felon. This book delves deeper into what transpired and shows us what a truly remarkable and honorable man he is.

I loved meeting Jess for the first time through Scott’s eyes. His description had such detail that I felt as if I was sitting right along side him sharing a beverage. I mean I think I fell for Jess too after reading this book. Smoothies Jess.

Teddy, Big O, And Chico were just icing on this fabulous book.

My favorite character of the whole book (sorry Scott it wasn’t you) was his father. I wish I had the opportunity to meet that man in person. Reading about him both brought a tear to my eye and made me laugh out loud. So much so I was reading his chapters to my husband. What an amazing man. This world is truly lacking without his father in it. He was a remarkable human being who instilled amazing morals and beliefs in another remarkable man.

Every single chapter sucked me in and I could not put the book down until the very last page. Absolutely amazing.

Scott Hildreth has a way with words that very few people in this world possess. He takes everyday events and manages to describe them in a way that makes them extraordinary. The level of self awareness of his characters, their thought processes, and the way he breaks down the meaning of things is astounding.

In Lover Come Back we get HIS story in HIS words. As a long time reader one thing that I have learned is that he is big on interacting with his fans. Often hilarious yet always humble he has a way of putting people at ease and making them feel like long time friends. Because of this it's easy for his readers to feel emotionally invested in his life. I don’t want to give anything away but I will say that while reading this story my emotions were all over the place. I laughed, cried, felt pride and heartbreak and everything in between. He does all of this while still making pantys wet and girls read with one hand.

It was a lot of fun to learn about the bits and pieces of himself that he has put in his characters. From serious things like morals, to fun things like head steppin’. It makes you want to go back and reread things with this new knowledge.

If you are new to Scott Hildreth this book will encourage you immediately buy all his other novels and binge read until you have devoured his entire library. If you are a long time fan then this will give you all the feels and nostalgia you could ask for. READ. THIS. NOW!

P.S. 17! Really?

Scott has done an outstanding job writing his and Jessica's story, it is honest and down to earth. He doesn't pretend to be perfect in any way shape or form but honesty is one of his highest qualities, he stands up for what he believes is right and has suffered because of that. If the fact of him having been to jail puts you off reading his books DON'T let it, read this first it explains it all. He has struggled and been as low as its possible to get, picked himself up and turned his life round. Jess as well didn't have an easy time early on, she met Scott at a difficult time and they became friends. This is as real a story as you can get, it wasn't an easy ride but they worked at it. I found it to be emotional, inspirational and very moving. It also made me think a bit about people who stand up for their beliefs being punished and there being nothing anyone can do to stop that, even though they believe in the innocence. The struggle to pull to families together is never easy, that is something I understand to well having been there myself. To not force it but give each member of said family time to work it out for themselves is hard, but it shows respect for them and trust that if they see the happiness and the love it will become accepted. I loved this story and have the utmost respect for Scott and Jess for all they have been through together and separately, that they have fallen deeply in love with each other and all the children as well as the life they worked hard to achieve is an inspiration to all. I feel honoured to have had the chance to read this book, I have never met either of them face to face but do interact a little on social media and have found them to be very much as they come across in here. I was never anti because of Scott's past and having read this that pleases me, he has an integrity that is as outstanding as this book and I hope that many take the opportunity to read this and understand more of not just him but Jess and their family. This is a read I also hope his older children read at some point because his love for them comes through as strongly as it does his love for Jess and her first two children. Such an amazing true story and a real pleasure to read, one I didn't want to put down but sadly I had to sleep 3/4 of the way through. Stay strong Scott your dad was and still would be so proud of you. Jess you are an amazing and incredible woman, fabulous mum and your creativity blows me away.

Wow. Just wow. Scott I don't know if you or Jess reads these reviews but I'm writing it as if you do. Once upon a time you asked a question in one of your face book posts about what story we'd like to read next from you. I had commented that I wanted to read your story. Your response was it's too scary or your publisher wouldn't approve; something along those lines. I'm glad you decided to write it. This book made me laugh, it made me ugly cry, it made me feel a plethora of emotions I can't even describe. I love all your books, but this one was truly amazing. Well done.

Thank You Scott! Beautiful.

A beautifully written true love story that usually doesn't get told. Get it before he changes his mind.

If you've ever wondered where he (or other authors) get their stories, this true story will give you some insight.

I laughed, maybe chuckled, and I cried, no I blubbered. This book opened my heart again.

EPIC MUST READ STORY

As I anxiously awaited the book being downloaded to my kindle. I knew that this was going to be a book like no other and as with all this authors books I wasn't disappointed in any way shape or form.

I felt as though he had stripped himself bare and let all of us look at his life through a looking glass. Not ashamed of laying it all wide out in the open and telling the good, the bad, and the ugly.

As I read every word of the pages I could look back at all his books and see what part of him was on each page of his other 50 plus books. I knew from the moment I read the first book this author would be one of my favorites. However, through the years as I've read each book and I've decided this is my ride or die author and as long as he writes I will be reading his books.

Scott has been one of my top authors from the moment I took up reading as a hobby a few years ago. The man is a literary master with stories that intertwine with his own life experiences. This memoir is nothing short of spectacular. A peak into what made him the man he is and the love that has formed his life into his own perfect version of it is something that as a reader, looking from the outside in, lets me see what drives the great mind of a man who makes a woman wish every man could be modeled after him. Scott, you are a magnificent writer and I look forward to reading many more books from you for many years to come. Thank you for this small insight into your wonderful life!!!

This isn't a review as such, but a thank you. A thank you to Scott for being the man he is. A man with strong beliefs, integrity and a stubbornness that he sticks to no matter the consequences.

A thank you for sharing his words and introducing characters that as readers we love and adore. Scott’s been one of my favorite authors since I was lucky enough to discover his books. His characters are heartwarming and hilarious and I feel like I know them personally as I get lost in their stories.

A thank you for realizing that Jessica was worth it. You said it yourself, “God provides to those who wait.”

A thank you for sharing his dad. He sounds like he was truly an amazing man with a great sense of humor and personality. It’s apparent he taught his son to be just like him.

So thank you Scott for Lover Come Back. This was a beautiful story and I’m honored that you took the time to share meaningful, personal life events with your readers. You’re one of a kind and I look forward to whatever you have planned next.

It’s odd rating someone’s true story isn’t it? But honestly I found Scott and Jessica’s story fascinating. I want to thank them for being open enough to share their private lives with us. I think all of us internet book people think we kind of know our other book people because we see them online and maybe we’ve met them a time or two but you don’t know what people have people through or what they are made of.

If I’m being honest I kind of love Scott’s principles in life. While extreme, no one can accuse him of being wishy washy about what he stands for even if it makes his life harder. Sometimes I would read a part of a book and think good lord I think my oldest son might be somehow related to him. Their principals sometimes were so scary similar.

I have to say while this was Scott and Jess’ story there was someone who really stood out and who I just absolutely fell in love with. Scott’s dad! Oh my gosh I found myself highlighting areas about him. An occasional note like oh I love him or something like that. What an insightful man and how lucky was Scott to be raised by someone like him.

Also I shed many a tear in this book. Whether it was just a touching moment of something sad. My kid may have looked at me and asked me to leave the room because of excessive sniffling (brat). I’m thinking he should read this book. There’s life lessons in here. Good read for all types of people.

Lover Come Back is Scott & Jess Hildreth’s love story. However, I can guarantee to you that it’s not like any other memoir you have ever read. It’s a raw and honest look at the events that made Scott and Jess who they are as individuals and as a family.

To say thay Scott Hildreth has led a colorful life would be to put things mildly. Lover Comes Back gives us an open look at his struggles with the law, his relationships and his views on life. Fans will recognize many of the events in this book from Scott’s social media shares. They’ll also see how he’s truly written a bit of himself (and of Jess) into every book and character he’s created.

This reads as fiction, even though its based on true life. Lover Come Back gave me all the feels. The ups and downs this couple has experienced had me laughing one minute and crying the next. You can feel the love and respect this couple feels for one another, their family and their friends, as it simply oozes from the pages of this book.

It’s an incredible read and as genuine as Scott is himself. Scott’s an amazing storyteller and I feel like he’s written this book in the same style and language you’d hear his story in if you were hanging out with him and Jess at a backyard BBQ. 5 Stars!

Seventeen Stars, Not Five, and a Fist Bump or Two...

I've followed them on Facebook for the better part of two years, I've watched live feeds, read posts, commented on pictures, and read lots of Scott's books. To me the Hildreth's were the ultimate power couple. Their world seemed picturesque, with a bit of attitude, spunk, and flare that only they could give it, and now I know why.

Lover Come Back, is not just a love story, it's the real deal. This memoir is filled with raw emotion. Each of the the ups and downs, trials and triumphs, all of the laughter and tears Scott and Jessica shared have made them who they are today. Scott has done a phenomenal job in sharing their story with us. Each tear they shed and fist he pounded I felt like I was right there next to him living in the moment.

Every so often we read a book that has such a profound impact on us that when we finish it we literally don't know what to do. It tugs at your heartstrings, toys with your emotions; leaving us wanting more. And when we do, we're left in a book hangover. A hangover in which we need ample time to recover. Lover Come Back, has definitely done that to me.

Proverbs 3:5 & 6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

I've had to claim these verses because of all the difficult things I've experienced in life I could of thrown in the towel but once you get through it you see where life gave you something better/ different than you could imagine and it could only of been through God's hands. I'm not saying He causes the bad things but He carries us through it to a better place.
I want to thank you for sharing your love story which is more than sweet Jessica but the love for your family and friends...and fans. Very cool...fist pump!!

Scott Hildreth's words have a way of burrowing into your heart and sould and making a permanent place there.
Lover Come Back did that.
I've been reading the author for years, I adore his writing style, the characters, plots and the happily ever afters. But this one is what epic love stories are made of, his story, his struggles, his morals and his endless love for his family make this one of my favorites he's written to date.
It's a must read, I will tell you it's emotional but it's much more. There's strength and faith and love, so so much love.
I usually write paragraph upon paragraph about his books but this one I just don't know what to say other than that it's truly an beautiful love filled story.

Wow! You really outdid your yourself with this amazing, personal book Scott Hildreth!
I felt like I was so up and down, emotionally while reading this one! Laughing, tearing up, ready to kick the author in the behind and hug his woman all at the same time...
It's a super cool privilege to read a story that fills in how someone's or a couples life began on its path. That's what I felt this book was...Reading about Jess' part in Scott's life, his Dad's, wow! What a privilege!
I can honestly say that I've never read a more heart hurting, heart warming book in my life! I feel privileged to have gotten to peak into two amazing people's most personal place!
Scott has always been one of my favorite male authors but now...you just slid yourself into the permanent #1 spot! Keep loving, laughing and enjoying your life together Scott and Jess!
Highly recommend, Happy Reading! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Simply so moved I could not put the book down. I read through tears and laughed out loud. No words can describe how good this book is.

2023/4/10 I'm going to try, The first few chapters were very hard to read. I'm the mother of a spec op sailor, aunt to one as well. The lengths the ATF went through to frame this man who served our country dismayed me, saddened me, angered me. If you are going to read this book, believe me get through the first few chapters, it will leave you with much to think on days later.

Amazing

Scott, I loved being able to read this book and learn more about you and Jessica. You two are the greatest couple I’ve met. You have overcome so much. I wish I could have met your father. He truly seemed like an amazing person. Thank you for writing this book and all of your others.
