"Getting Over Brett is a top-of-the-line read. It has everything you could possibly want in a modern romance. It’s fun and playful at times, full of flirty banter, then deeply romantic and emotional at its heart. Somehow, it’s both sweet and sexy all at the same time!” Julianne MacLean, USA Today Bestselling Author
"This is a fun rom-com that had me laughing in several places... An entertaining tale!" Jacquie Biggar, USA Today Bestselling Author
Nothing can stop a girl with a plan…
Tori Jarrett is rocking her life. Well, mostly. She has great friends, and she’s busy fixing up her house. The only thing missing is love. But Tori isn’t worried...an awful lot. Mr. Right will arrive when he’s meant to, and this time they’ll ride off into the sunset together. No repeats of four years ago when she gave her heart and virginity to Brett Evans hours before he skipped town.
Not that Tori is holding a grudge. In fact, she’s almost forgotten their disastrous one-night stand. Until Brett stands on her doorstep, looking to rent a room. Yi-yi, does he have to be as handsome and charming as always?
Of course, Brett regrets ever hurting Tori. It’s difficult to know what to do about a woman he once considered the cute kid sister of his best friend but now can’t deny is thoroughly, irresistibly sexy. But, seriously, he’s better off alone. After all, Tori is a childhood pal, a boundary he won’t cross again.
Pal? Tori can’t believe Brett is stuck in the dusty past! What she needs is help with her house renovations, not a history list. Pals or not, she intends to get Brett under the covers again where he will discover she’s all woman where he is concerned. Maybe then she can finally bury her dreams and fantasies about the man, and move on.
Bed him and forget him. Forever this time. Such a simple plan...

Getting Over Brett is a sweet second chance romance.
Years ago Tori had a crush on her brother's best friend, and hooked up with him the night of her brother's wedding. But when Brett found out he had taken her v-card that night, he walked out on her, never to contact her again. Until now, 4 years later, when Brett walks back into her home and into her life with the intent on rekindling their...friendship. Yep. Friendship. Ugh.
For his part, Brett is a nice guy, if a bit messed up thanks to a sleazy, cheating father, and a bit (a lot) clueless about women and relationships. He knows he hurt Tori when he brushed her off so long ago, and wants to make it up to her. But only as friends. Nothing else, because Tori is a forever kind of woman and he's not cut out for marriage and kids and all the things he knows Tori wants. But, Tori is still nursing a grudge, so getting her to give him a second chance to be in her life is going to be difficult.
I mostly liked Getting Over Brett, but it lagged a bit in the middle, and I wanted a bit more heat between the two. I did like Tori a lot, and Brett, too, although he was really frustratingly obtuse, so much so that I wanted to smack him more than once. But, once Brett made up his mind about what he truly wanted, I thought this story was pretty good. I wish he had figured things out a lot sooner, but the ending was super sweet and almost made up for the lagging pace in the middle and last quarter. If you like sweet romances with cute, realistic characters, think of 1-clicking Getting Over Brett.
If you're a fan of rom/coms this one is worth a look. It ran a little too cutesy for my personal tastes, but the banter is lively and the conflict low-key. Set in Portland, there's a nice "neighborhood" vibe to the setting and the heroine has actual friends who spend some time on page.
Tori has a plan. A plan to find her forever partner. A plan to get over and move on from Brett. The very same Brett that she has been in love with since she was a young teen. The Brett that took her virginity. The same Brett who then told her, after taking said “V” card, that it was a mistake and walked out, not only walked out, but left town! That was four years ago, and she hasn’t heard from him since.
So, why, oh why, is he here. Now. Standing in her living room. Telling her he was supposed to be staying at what he thought was still her parent’s house. That he was here for a month. That he was sorry for what happened between them. The he still wanted them to be “pals”, just like they were BEFORE that night.
Plans and to-do lists are generally a good thing. That is when they go according to schedule..
Getting over Brett is a sweet, clean, second-chance, friends-to-lovers romance. There is fun banter, sassy and sweet moments, honest and heart-warming moments, heart-mending and healing moments all wrapped together in a fun romance. One thing I really, really enjoyed in this book is when the characters had their “ah-ha” moments, they came right out with it. There was no beating around the bush and side talk. Just straight throw it out there and run with it. That was very refreshing. The end was sweet and romantic. I only wish there was an epilogue because I would have loved to have had a small glimpse of what their future was like.
Tori Jarrett has her hands full renovating the house she bought from her parents, as well as caring for the family business while they’re away on vacation. What she doesn’t need is her biggest mistake, Brett Evans, to show up on her doorstep looking for a place to stay.
Brett is in town for a month for his job and assumes his best friend (Tori’s brother) has cleared it with his parents for Brett to rent a room in their house. He’s sick of hotel life (I wish!), and is looking forward to the much-loved homelife he’s never had.
Unfortunately, times have changed and Brett ends up eye-to-rump (Tori is up a ladder when he arrives) with the girl he never should have bedded years before- and she’s definitely NOT happy to see him!
This is a fun rom-com that had m laughing in several places. I actually had more sympathy for Brett than Tori, who carried a major chip on her shoulder.
It wasn’t very long after we meet Brett and witness his first encounter with Tori in four years, when my vindictive little heart chortled with glee and got malicious pleasure out of the thought "you're about to be in so much trouble, mister". This fun second-chance romance also has the added bonus of teaching Tori to be careful of what she wishes for – she just might get it. While their yo-yoing back and forth drove me a little batty, it also came with some wonderfully snappy banter that had me giggling most of the way through the book. I loved watching the growth that both Brett and Tori undergo through the course of this book, because neither one is in a place that would be conducive to a relationship when we first meet them. I’m hoping that there will be a book about big brother Ryan in the future. He sounds like a man who could use a different kind of second chance. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
This is a gentle romcom, with warmth, and yes, on occasions it made me laugh.
The secondary characters and the environs were well described. The book had a real sense of place and community.
I did, however, have problems with Brett and Tori, the main characters. I couldn't get a clear picture of Brett in my mind, which made him difficult to relate to.
Tori was just annoying.....the changes of mind, the nastiness towards Brett (some of it deserved, some of it not), her constant list making made her one of the most aggravating women I've read!!
I did enjoy the story whilst reading it, but on reflection, some tweaking of the characters could have made it so much better.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book via Hidden Gems.
5 stars I received a free copy of Getting Over Brett by Cindy Procter-King and this review was given freely. Tori's brother's childhood best friend Brett is also Tori's first love. He comes back to Oregon for a job and tries to rebuild a relationship with Tori while Tori is rebuilding/remodeling her family home. This story contains realistic characters, sassy girlfriends, a smarmy dad, some neighborhood drama, a lot of dialogue punctuated by what the character is really thinking, a loving dog, and a couple who repress both their attraction and love for each other throughout most of the novel.
Getting Over Brett is not my first Cindy Procter-King novel and as I have liked her other books, I was really looking forward to reading this. I was not disappointed. Brett was Tori’s first lover and also her brother’s best friend. After a one-night stand, Brett took off. Now he is back in Tori’s house. How she handles him until he finally comes to his senses makes for a great story. I liked reading about Tori as she fixes up her house and allows Brett to help. There were parts that made me laugh out loud. The ending was the happily ever after that they both wanted. I really enjoyed this book.

I received a copy from Hidden Gems; this is my honest review. -This third book in the series is nothing like the previous two books which are both over-the-top nutty funny romances. -This one is a calculated, planned to the detail, get over situation. Not funny in any way, a bit mushy at the end and serious and sad in the middle. -It's an overview of what happens to a stubborn woman - Tori - and a marriage fearful man - Brett and how they come to realize they want each other, they need other other and they love each other. -I was a bit miffed because I was expecting LOL moments or at least a romantic comedy instead of a contemporary romance. It's still well written, don't get me wrong; I loved the book. -All three books have zero in common; their characters do not intermingle nor the places where they are so you can read them in any order.
This was okay for me. The writing wasn't bad, but the story was pretty slow moving. This is more of a sweet romance, so if you're looking for something steamy, this isn't it. Brett and Tori are okay together. Tori was okay after awhile, but she was whiny and a little annoying at the beginning. Brett never really did get better. He was completely oblivious to most things. It's like he couldn't read Tori, or understand how mad she was. They do have a HEA, it was just a little slow (for me anyway) getting there. I voluntarliy reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Ok, this is just a a “quickie” review. Unfortunately, I’m in in a hospital and asked my husband to post this since I don’t have the time to do better - even though the book definitely deserves it.
Bottom line: five stars. This was one wonderfully fun novel and definitely recommended. It had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters.
If you enjoy sexy contemporary romance, Getting Over Brett is a top-of-the-line read. It has everything you could possibly want in a modern romance. It’s fun and playful at times, full of flirty banter, then deeply romantic and emotional at its heart. Somehow, it’s both sweet and sexy all at the same time! On top of that, the writing is stellar. I highly recommend!
I was not a fan of this book, it would've been a DNF but I finished it due to the book being only 200+ pages. Tori is annoyingly immature. Her character growth was nonexistent. Brett's character growth was much better. The switch in behavior in their relationship didn't flow the best. Some of the supporting characters were well written others not do much.
Tori + Brett forever says it all. Tori & Brett we’re so enjoyable as they struggled to define their relationship. Their humor and banter made the story that more enjoyable. Living in the Pacific Northwest makes this more fun to read and relate to. Will continue to enjoy these great books.😍😍
