Darius Alexander doesn't understand the word failure. Through hard work, dedication, and a refusal to give up, he's realized every dream he's had. Now, he owns one of the hottest jazz clubs on Miami Beach, and he's gone from living on a boat to docking it behind his waterfront condo. All in all, life is good. Not easy, but worth it. There's just one thing missing.
For Julian Hinsdale, life is a con game and it's taking him for all he's worth. Failure is all he knows and while he hates being the loser, there's no reason to think it could be different. Wanting anything is a risk and getting it will lead to heartbreak, but that doesn't stop him from falling for Darius. So, he does the only safe thing-disappears with his unrequited feelings safely tucked away where they can't be destroyed.
When their paths cross again, Darius is ready to dig in and Julian doesn't stand a chance. But after a lifetime of losing, Julian will have to learn to trust himself before he can embrace the future Darius is offering.
Author's Note: While Julian appeared briefly in For a Reason, this book is a standalone and not part of the Sizzling Miami Series.
Like many readers, the dream of being a writer has been with me a long time. After three decades of trying, I'd begun to doubt. Thanks to social media, I followed my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two repetitive themes emerged: To be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it's a job. The more you write, the easier it will be to write and the better you will be at writing. I took that advice to heart and write every day. With three series in the works and counting, it's been amazing to have made this dream my reality.
I am a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics and happily ever after. I'm a lover of strong secondary characters and series filled with families, biological or chosen. All are themes you'll find throughout my books.
Julian appeared so briefly in “For A Reason”, as a jerk of an ex, so I was curious to see how he’d be redeemed. I ended up kind of confused by the whole thing. It felt like I missed part of the story because the three years or however long Darius was supposed to have known Julian weren’t shown. So, the whole relationship with Darius wanting to take care of him seemed awfully sudden. Julian’s character also read as really young. I couldn’t connect well with this one at all. It does have the family touch from Darius side but Julian’s was weird. Particularly the ending, which confused me even more. Maybe it was just the wrong day for me to read it. I did like all the short Slice of Life stories for the series characters.
Oh, how much do I love this author? A lot. However, this story although filled with the same type of strong character driven storytelling as past books was very, very poorly edited and it ended at 68%. The rest was cobbled together Patreon shorts of prior characters as well as what appear to be new characters for future books.
The Patreon shorts were very interesting but there are a lot of books in JG's backlist and it's hard to remember who is who sometimes. She needs a family tree diagram included with the books with the names of books that go with characters if she is going to do this type of thing. I found one on her website though, so that helped after the fact.
The stuff with Jacky killed me. I want to read his story next. Hopefully that is on the table.
Darius and Julian danced around each other for a very long time. When Julian stopped coming around the club Darius owned, Darius decided it was time to find him. This story is short, sweet and to the point. I thought parts of the story were fantastic and the rest absolutely confusing. As always, I think all books are up to our own interpretation. Jessie G is a must buy author for me. She should also have your honest opinion of this latest story. Buy it and see what you think. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS BOOK!!!
Quick read. Julian we had meet previously in another book. Can I PLEASE, PLEASE kick his sister Amita, she needs a BIG kick. Great read. Best read if you had read all Previous books, especially those in the Sizzling Miami Series. MM.
