Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Fans of the Seacliff High series will recognize the protagonist, Alyson Prescott, who lived in Cutter’s Cove, Oregon when she and her mother were in the witness protection program. Alyson’s real name is Amanda Parker, and she’s returned to Cutter’s Cove after the brutal murder of a high school friend, Booker. Amanda can see ghosts and hopes to help police find the killer.
Amanda’s shocked when she walks in the old house and finds the ghost of teenage Alyson has been waiting for her during the 12 years she and her mom moved back to New York. Alyson is still young and carefree and wants to help Amanda with the investigation. High school friends, Mac and Trevor, come to stay with Amanda and reunite the old Scooby Gang. They combine their talents to work on finding clues to Booker’s death. Shadow, a mystical cat, still lives in the house with Alyson’s ghost.
I enjoyed the para-twist to this mystery. What a neat idea to combine juvenile Alyson with mature Amanda. They look at things differently, yet similarly. The mystery flows smoothly and the pages flipped by fast for me because I wanted to know what happened next, and whodunnit! I’m eager to read future stories in this series.
Homecoming By The Sea is the debut novel in Kathi Daley’s Haunting By The Sea series. This new series picks up ten years after the last book in Ms. Daley’s awesome Seacliff High series, but it isn’t necessary to have read the previous series before starting this one because sufficient character background has been provided. The well plotted mystery is intriguing and the affable characters are well developed. This is a clean cozy mystery with paranormal activity.
Amanda Parker left Cutter’s Cove, Oregon ten years ago after living there as Alyson Prescott for two years with her mother while in the Witness Protection Program. When the threat to her life was over, they decided to return to their life in New York. It was difficult making the decision to leave her two best friends, Mackenzie Reynolds and Trevor Johnson, but Amanda wanted to give her mother back the life she’d given up for her. When Amanda learned the police hadn’t made any progress in solving the six-month-old murder of her elderly friend, Rory Oswald, known as Booker to his friends, Amanda felt compelled to return to Cutter’s Cove to investigate. She found the home they had lovingly renovated when they lived in Cutter’s Cove dusty, but in good repair, however, when she went up to her old bedroom, she was shocked to find teenaged Alyson Prescott waiting for her. She knew the apparition it couldn’t be a ghost because she was still alive. Needing answers about what was happening, Amanda went to see Chan, a friend who owns a magic shop and had helped her sort out mystical occurrences in the past. After connecting with Trevor, they agreed to contact Mac who was living in California to see if she could come and help them investigate. Amanda and Mac met with Monica, Booker’s niece, who’s living in his house. While in Booker’s library, his ghost appears and Amanda, who has the ability to see ghosts, is able to speak with him, which was something she’d never been able to do before. Officer Woody Baker admitted he hadn’t made any progress in solving Booker’s murder and knowing the three friends had helped solve cases in the past, welcomed their help.
In this new become we welcome some old friends from a previous series who are now all grown up and living new lives. Amanda learns that an old friend has been murdered in Cutter's Cove and to much time has passed without even a suspect. It's been ten years since she was in Cutter's Cove where she was Alyson, a young girl that saw a killing and ended up in the witness protection program. When all of that was over she became Amanda again and shed her Alyson skin. Now that she is back she needs to figure out who killed Booker and why? He had been a big part of her life as Alyson. Follow along as Amanda becomes reacquainted with old friends, a forgotten pet, and the piece of herself she left behind. This was a touching read that was filled with great reunions, a missing piece, and as always an interesting whodunit. It was nice to see the old gang back together and I look forward to seeing how they progress from here.

Review:
Wow this was a really great book. I really liked the paranormal aspect of this book and the clever way that the author portrayed Amanda/Alyson. The characters are well rounded and well developed. It was great to get to spend time with the Scooby gang again. If you have not read the previous books that this new series is based on, no worries. The author gives enough background information throughout the book that I do not think anyone would have any trouble catching up. I have to say that I liked Alyson’s carefree attitude more than I did Amanda’s uptight personality. Amanda has some decisions to make and I cannot wait to see what choices she will make.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. It allowed me to get a clearer picture of all of the characters lives. She is very talented in her descriptive writing and this helped me to become more engaged in the story.
The mystery was well plotted and evenly paced. There were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through. The culprit was a surprise to me but very plausible. I have said before in some of my reviews that I would not even care if there was no mystery to solve, I am happy just spending time with the characters that this author creates.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you like paranormal cozies, this book is a must read. I cannot wait to read the next book and see what is in store for Amanda/Alyson.
“Homecoming by the Sea” earns 5/5 Reunions, Mysteries, and Murder!
What a delightful entertaining idea, especially for us fans of Seacliff High Mystery. Kathi Daley has reimagined her popular seven-book series into Haunting by the Sea. Originally tragic circumstances had forced Amanda Parker, living under the name Alyson Prescott, and her mother to be placed under the supervision of the federal witness protection program. However, feelings, voices, and the unsolved murder of her elderly friend, Rory Oswald aka Booker, have precipitated her return to Cutter’s Cove after a ten-year absence. During her absence her peculiar ability to “see” ghosts had seemed inactive, so college, a full-time career, and romantic relationships were all part of her “normal” life…but by returning to Cutter’s Cove, she essentially picks up where she left off…ghosts, danger, and…murder!
Wow! Kathi Daley’s signature writing style, clever whodunit, and engaging dialogue are on full display here. The setting is ten years later from the end of Seacliff High Mystery series, and although I highly recommend reading those seven books, it is easy for a newbie to join in. Kathi’s characters were already well-developed through the previous series, and although Alyson was always mature for her teen years, she has a delightful adult perspective in this new version. Along with the reunion with her high school friends, Mac and Trevor, who themselves have gained some adult instincts, we find out a bit how life has been for them without their friend Alyson/Amanda…a nice catch up. But for the “Oh, Wow!” twist, making it stand out that this is different, but still familiar, Amanda finds the ghost-like apparition of the image of her alias Alyson, the teenage version, and the ghosts…yes, the ghosts return! The paranormal aspect is not juvenile hocus-pocus; it is very entertaining, doesn't overwhelm the characters and the mystery, and it just fits! I highly recommend this book, but don't overlook the prequel series, Seacliff High!
The first book in a new series, Haunting By The Sea, by Kathi Daley provides readers of a look to the future of one of the characters in Ms. Daley's previous series, Seacliff High. Returning to what once was home can be a joyous occasion or in Amanda Parker's case, it brings flashbacks of Alyson Prescott. Amanda Parker was once Alyson Prescott who moved to Cutter's Cove with her mother under a witness protection program. Ten years later she returns with questions on whether she would face the connections with those who passed on in this wonderful area by the sea. Having moved to New York City after completing her studies, Amanda, lost the images as they faded once she left Cutter Cove. Hoping to solve the mystery of the murder of a old friend, Booker aka Rory Oswald, Amanda aka Alyson returns. It was a little deja vu to read about Cutter Cove, Amanda's ability to see and feel spirits and help them find peace.
I enjoyed this book, I had not read the previous series that Amanda's had come about in but I had not problem following this. Amanda comes back to the house that she had lived with her mother when they were in witness protection. A close friend had been murdered and she reunites with old friends to try and solve it. On top of that she finds a ghost of her former self and very interesting twist. I loved the characters, they are real, easy to get involved in. The mystery was excellent and kept me guessing. I found the ghost of the victim and the ghost of her former self and interesting addition to the book and added quite a bit of humor. I will definitely continue on with this series.
Continuing story of Seacliff high characters, but 10 years later. The mystery was simple (didn't guess until almost the end) and a quick lead. Not sure how I feel about the time jump, but I will continue to read the next one.
Oh my gosh, is this book ever good! I couldn’t put it down from the first sentence! I wasn’t sure how good this series would be with the author aging everyone 10 years, but I am here to tell you that if anything it got better. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Totally awesome to read the characters as grown-ups. They say that you can't go home , but yes you can even though things have changed and a good friend is murder. The team joins together to find the murder this time around with new interesting characters. Couldn't put this one down.
This book comes a decade after the last book in the Seacliff High series, re-introducing us to the characters and their new lives. If you didn't read that series, you can still dive into this one as there is plenty of background provided on the main characters.
Alyson Prescott has gone back to her pre-Witness Protection name and life (Amanda Parker in New York). Trevor Johnson is still living in Cutter's Cove and is the owner of the pizza place where the gang hung out as kids, while Mackenzie Reynolds is living and working in California. When their friend Rory Oswald, aka Booker, is found murdered, both Amanda and Mac come back to Oregon to help solve the case.
There is more of a paranormal side to this story than the original series. Not only can Amanda still see ghosts, now she can communicate with them as well. While the original series was marketed as YA, this series is more adult, and I look forward to reading more of it in the future.
It is never easy returning home. For Amanda Parker it was a place she had not been since she was a teenager and had a different identity as she was in witness protection with her mom. A lot has happened as she left behind friendships that she had sworn to keep.
When a friend is murder she decides to return and ends up reuniting with her friends Mac and Trevor as they investigate the case like old times. She finds herself haunted with a ghost who is her alter ego that she left behind who is tied to the house where she lived.
The story picks up as they have grown older but the ch
I am so happy that the Scoopy gang is back together - we first met them in the Sea Cliff High series (an awesome series in its own right) and now they are 10 years older and reunited to help solve the murder of a good friend. This is a cozy paranormal mystery with lots of intrigue and some interesting ghosts. Loved getting reacquainted with the gang but do want you to know that its not necessary to read the Sea Cliff High series (although I highly recommend you do) in order to enjoy this one. Kathi Daley certainly knows how to weave a story and create characters that will suck you right in and totally become involved in their lives and story.
That is what Amanda has been doing for the last ten years since she left Cutter's Cove, and her persona of Alyson behind. Now she's back to try to find out who killed an old friend, and comes face to face with the spirit of Alyson, the part of her that she left behind when she and her mother left the witness protection program. Catching up with old friends and solving murders is making her to reevaluate what she wants from life. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I enjoyed each one of Ms. Daley's books in her Seacliff High mystery series as it reminded me of my younger days while reading Nancy Drew mysteries. I was delighted that Ms. Daley decided to revisit Cutter's Cove with Amanda/Alyson after ten years. I felt like I was reconnecting with old friends as Trevor and Mac joined Amanda/Alyson in a new sleuthing adventure.
Cutter's Cove hasn't changed much but the 10 years Amanda has been away put a split between herself and Alyson - literally and figuratively! Now trying to figure out who murdered her friend, Booker, has become a new adventures that surprised even a person who already can see ghosts.
If you have not read the Seacliff High mystery series, also by Kathi Daley, it will help put a good perspective into this series! Excellent writing by a well-loved author!
I enjoyed most everything about this book except the ending. Most of the characters, both living and ghostly were likable. Amanda and her mother had been moved to a small Oregon town on the coast as they were put into the whiteness protection program. After the criminals who wanted Amanda dead had died, Amanda and her mother were able to return to their lives. While they were living in Oregon, Amanda became Alyson and made two very good friends, Trevor and Mac. In the 10 years she had been gone from the town, she lost touch with them. When she learned of an older friend’s murder that hadn’t been solved after 6 months, she took leave of her high powered job and her lawyer boyfriend to return to Oregon.
Amanda returned to the house she and her mother had rehabbed. They had left everything in Oregon that would not fit in with their lives in New York. When she went into her old bedroom, the spirit of Alyson was on her bed as Amanda had been when she returned to New York. A friend who understands psychic phenomena told her that Alyson was the part of her she had left behind when she went back to her old life. In might be possible to integrate the outside Alyson into herself, if she could adopt the traits that Alyson represented.
Amanda’s friend Trevor now owns the local pizza parlor. Her girlfriend Mac who has a lucrative computer related job agrees to return to the town to help Trevor and Amanda solve the murder of an older gentleman who had been researching an old shipwreck. He had donated a wing to the local historical museum and had left his house as a museum, to be taken care of by his niece.
The three friends plus the spectral Alyson and Woody, the local policeman work together to solve the mystery. When Amanda is able to talk to the ghost of the murdered man, the mystery is eventually solved. My problem with the book, is that the character who is the murderer was not developed as a viable suspect. The book also ends abruptly. We don’t know if Amanda is going to stay in Oregon or return to her life in New York. We know she has decided to break it off with her lawyer boyfriend. The answers must be in the next book in this series.
In this the debut book in a new series by Kathi Daley, she has brought her old characters from her Seacliff High series back ten years later as adults. It is a paranormal cozy mystery series set in Cutters Cove, Oregon where Amanda Parker and her mother lived for two years under the witness protection program. While living there Amanda was Alyson Prescott who made good and lasting friendships with Mac and Trevor. When the danger to their lives ended Amanda and her mother returned home to their old lives in New York. Ten years later Amanda finds out that her old friend, Booker is found murdered and she feels the need to go back to Cutters Cove to solve the murder. Amanda joins forces with Mac and Trevor along with a local police officer, a cat named Shadow and a new canine friend named Sunny to investigate the unsolved murder. The gang is together just like old times and they find out that Booker was looking into an old ship wreck that may have been carrying illegal gold coins. Could this have something to do with his murder of was the murderer someone closer to the situation. Will the gang be able to figure things out and will Amanda figure out that her heart is truly home and at peace here in Cutters Cove? This is another delightful cozy mystery by Kathi Daley with wonderful characters, their loving animals and a little bit of ghostly intrigue added in to the mix. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in this series.
It was a wonderful surprise to find the characters from Daley's young adult series, Seacliff High, all grow up in this new paranormal cozy mystery series written for adults, as well as young adults. As much as I enjoyed the former series, I found this one to be even better.
Amanda Parker, a teenager from a very wealthy New York family, along with her mother, was forced into witness protection ten years ago in the old series. She had lived as middle class Alyson Prescott in Cutter's Cove, Oregon for two years, making all new friends and learning to love a completely different lifestyle before being able to return to her old life after the danger has finally passed.
In this new series, she is an adult, living in New York, with a lucrative, fast paced job and has abandoned contact with her old best friends Trevor and Mac.
Upon learning of the murder of another friend from the past, Amanda decides to return to Cutter's Cove to join up with her best friends to help the police find the killer.
There are many surprises in store for Amanda in Cutter's Cove, not the least of which is the discovery of just how much she has missed being there.
I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.
Yes, you can go home again but where exactly is home? For Amanda Parker, who had been forced into hiding during her vulnerable, formative teen years, is her true home that from which she had to run or the one her mother and she built for themselves when starting over? When danger passed, along with time, Amanda's life moved on. Did you ever wonder what happened to Nancy Drew after college? This bittersweet story catches up with Amanda and a couple of her best friends when tragedy strikes and they feel the need to expose a killer and find justice for a friend.
It was a different feeling reading about Amanda, no longer Alyson, grown up and away from her seaside friends. There were sad moments followed by delightful surprise. The mystery behind a shipwreck is intriguing, but it is the search for a killer that drew me in. This story is also one of friendship and discovering things about oneself. The series was originally intended for a YA audience but quickly gained popularity with adults at all stages of life. A more mature Amanda still has some life decisions to figure out. I was happy and excited about the way this book ended.
Amanda Parker is returning to Cutter's Cove ten years after leaving. She lived in the small town along with her mother while they were in the Witness Protection program. When she goes into her bedroom in the their house she finds a ghost image of her alternate self, Alyson. Amanda is here to help solve the mystery of the murder of a man named Booker who was a good friend while she lived there. With Alyson's help, Amanda learns she can now talk to the ghosts she sees as she and Booker's ghost try to come up with what occurred in his last moments. Amanda's reunion with Mac and Trevor is a good one and Amanda is faced with a decision of leaving again when the mystery is solved or once again making a home for herself in Cutter's Cove.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great read and kept me hooked from beginning to end. It's well-written with well-rounded characters. I highly recommend it although I do suggest you read the Seacliff High series first to get a better understanding of the main characters.
Homecoming By The Sea ( Haunting By The Sea - Book One ) By: Kathi Daley Homecoming By The Sea is book one in Haunting By The Sea new series by Kathi Daley. I Don’t Know how Ms. Daley does it but she just keeps getting better and better. I was not disappointed. I loved this new series right from the start. The author brings Amanda back home to Cutter’s Cove after ten years when one of her friends have been killed. I love meeting back up with all the characters that were teens and now are all grown up. Can the old gang find the killer that killed their friend? Can you ever go back home after leaving? How does Amanda feel after ten years ? I cannot wait to read book two in Haunting By The Sea in this new series.
Homecoming by the Sea features Amanda, a woman not entirely content with her old wealth and high society in New York. She has a past, though — including a couple of years spent as an average kid in a small coastal town with a group of good friends.
The murder of a friend in New York sent her west ten years earlier; this time it is the murder of a west coast friend that draws her back into old relationships and rediscovery of the person she had been.
The ghosts of this story follow the traditional rules, with the exception of incomplete memory. Without them, of course, Ananda could not solve the murder.
Even though this seems to be the first in a series, it is actually the first in a "reboot" of an older series, Seacliff High Mystery Series. Even though the book provides enough background information to understand the major relationships from the previous series, I wanted to know more about how the characters all came together and split apart, so I'm going to go back and read that series before continuing with this one.
I really liked the characters, the setting, and the mystery. The final resolution of the mystery was a bit out of left field, and I'm sure the prosecutor will have a difficult time making the case against the one whodunnit, (which took away one star from my rating) but I still enjoyed the book very much.
Homecoming By The Sea is the first book in the Haunting by the Sea series by Kathi Daley. This book is different than most cozy mysteries I read because of the addition of "ghosts". Main character, Amanda Parker can see, hear, and talk to ghosts. Amanda travels back to Cutter's Cove, Oregon after being away for a decade. She decides to return when the police continue to have trouble solving her friend Booker's murder, which happened six months ago. She gets the old gang back together for reconnecting and brain storming. This is a clean cozy mystery with interesting characters. I enjoyed how Amanda ended up solving this mystery. At 176 pages it can easily be read in one setting.
Ten years ago Amanda Parker was in witness protection under the identity of Alyson Prescott. Now she’s come home again. One of her friends is dead, murdered, and she wants to get her old friends together to solve the crime. Imagine her shock when she finds the past waiting for her. Shadow her cat from 10 years ago is near the house. And a teenaged Allison Prescott is in the house. It doesn’t take Amanda long to settle into her old life, reconnect with friends she loves, and begin to work on a murder. I read this book in one sitting. It is truly a page turner and I enjoyed every minute of it.
This is the 1st in this series I like this author & her cosy mysteries
In this Amanda who was in witness protection when she was younger & she & her mum went to Cutters Cove where she was Allyson she left 10 years earlier after it was safe for them to return to their previous lives But is back to see if she can solve the murder of Brooker who she knew when a teenager When she was there she could see ghost but after leaving she couldn't anymore but now she back not only can she see them but speak to them now on top of that she sees Allyson the part she left behind
This new takeoff series from Kathi Daley’s teen Aimee series is off to a great start. Alyson/Amanda is all grown up and living in New York. She comes back to Cutters Cove to close up the House they lived in while in witness protection to discover a friend had been murdered and to find her own ghost! This is a wonderful story. Amanda is finding her true self and the true friends she left behind when resuming her old life. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.
Meet Amanda Parker aka Alysson Prescott. She has come back to Cutters cove to solve the murder of an old friend. Amanda has special skills that will aid her in her pursuit of justice. With her "17 year old self" and two friends Trevor and Mac Amanda/Alysson get to business to find Bookers killer. This is a new series for Ms. Daley and it is a welcome addition to the authors library. Like her Rescue Alaska series, this book has a paranormal element to it that was refreshing an adds something to the crime solving. I recomend this book as a wonderful start to a new series.
Amanda was at one time known as Alyson, and in witness protection. Now she is back in the seaside town she spent two years in, reunited with her close friends there, and trying to solve the murder of their good friend, the wealthy Booker.
I hope Kathi Daley continues to peel back the petals of both Amanda’s years in hiding, and her ability to see ghosts.
