Avery Shaw #12

Extra! Extra! Dead All About It

Rate this book
The primary election is almost here and Avery Shaw is in her glory. Her boss has unleashed her on the leading candidates - including two of whom she downright loathes - and Macomb County's leading reporter (and pot-stirrer extraordinaire) is about to turn the election on its ear.

She just needs to find a story first.

When her nemesis Tad Lancaster loses a volunteer, Avery sniffs out a bigger story… or at least she thinks she does. She has a pile of documents, too many insidious ideas to wrangle, and a long-suffering boyfriend who can do nothing but shake his head.

Avery is determined to find out the truth, even if it doesn't lead to Lancaster's downfall. She only has a limited time to do it, too, and the clock is ticking down to election day.

In short order, Avery has to uncover a pile of financial corruption, irritate her co-workers to the point where they don't want to steal her story, hook her ex-boyfriend up with a new girlfriend, survive family dinner, convince her boyfriend she's not chasing ghosts but rather something that's really there, and save Macomb County's election process for the people.

Oh, she also needs to figure out a way to avoid a baby shower, too.
It's all in a day's work for one hard-working and fast-talking reporter. She just needs to survive the final showdown to prove to everyone exactly how superior she really is.

When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.

Avery has a knack for getting the story, even when she doesn't mean to. Avery is living with Elliot and covering the new election for the town, when a body is found. He is connected to Tad, since Avery absolutely lothes Tad she is going after the story. Slowly, she starts to uncover clues including the papers connected to one of the canidates. Among with a little danger, digging for the truth and finding more than what Avery originally set out to find she works hard to find the answers.
OMG! I love Avery Shaw mysteries they are the best! I love the humor Amanda always puts into her books! I definitely recommend if you love cozy mysteries full of laughs and a little sarcasm!

Avery is having an awesome time living with her boyfriend, and covering the new election going on. She is ready to enjoy all the dirt she will dig up on Tad, and the other candidates. But when someone dies, and she gets the story, she knows there is not stopping once she gets the sent of a good story. But, she also has to try to hook up her ex, and avoid a baby shower if possible.

This book was another great one in this series. I loved Avery and Eliot together. They are great. I still wish Fawn was gone, and I was a little annoyed with Avery obsessed over Jake's love life. But other than that, I thought this one was really good. It had a great story line, and was awesome.

I'm also looking forward to the next one, this one left a little hint about what the next book will be about and I'm nervous and excited all at once.

Enjoyable

I was happy to see more of the Lauren character. Hopefully we will see more of Carly, especially with the impending mother visit. She can help Avery cope. Just waiting now for the next book.

Total book

I'm pleased to see that Ms. Lee wrote the whole book and didn't sacrifice quality and the ending for some arbitrary deadline like happens to many writers who find success and end up with deadlines from their publishers. The constant argument that all these same writers feel they have to put in every book - the male love interest going into protective mode and we have to listen di endless arguments about the MC's right to live her life like she wants while compromising for peace in the family- gets old though. I really don't care about his issues. He's arm candy and occasional smut and romance - albeit unrealistic at times - thrown in for interest and because there's usually always a man in a womans life, just as there's usually family, etc. But let's pretend they're all smart enough and accepting men, too, if we're creating a fantasy lover anyway, of letting the woman do what she wants. Letting gert decide she wants more weaponry if she does. That is how this MC met this fantasy boyfriend. Complete the fantasy and leave out the tedious arguments. We can imagine them all too much as it is.

Okay, Avery is back and while the mystery was interesting I am still not a big fan of the main character, who's big mouth gets her in trouble, good job she is not a tv journalist. Sometimes this can be amusing like when her boyfriend manages to out think her but other times she Just likes to argue and there is a lot of dialogue that just goes around in circles and doesn't get anywhere. The mystery takes a long time to get going and to be honest I think the author forgets that there is a murder, she is so caught up in the drama of the election. However I still find myself downloading the next book.
The local elections have arrived and Avery Shaw is looking to find a story and annoy her ex boyfriend who is one of the candidates. When a body is discovered that is connected to the election she know she is on to something and somebody has a secret that they are trying to hide. Can Avery annoy it out of them or just make herself a target for a killer?
I am still not sure the narrator is right for the part, she makes Avery sound like she is whining all the time and I am not sure that she is ment to.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The Magic that is Avery Shaw!

What is that magic, you ask? According to the source herself, “The magic of Avery Shaw is that she can make grown men cry with merely a glance.” And cry they do! In Extra! Extra! Avery is back harassing arch nemesis Tad Ludington, coworker Duncan, cousin Derrick & his baby mama Devon, boss Fish, & ex-boyfriend County Sheriff Jake Farrell. Even though she occasionally exasperates boyfriend Eliot, all she has to do is promise to play video games naked & she’s forgiven! I just love Avery’s snark & sarcasm. It makes me laugh out loud as I’m reading. I thoroughly enjoy her interchanges with her coworker “pervy” Marvin & Eliot’s clerk Fawn. But most of all I admire Avery for being tenacious & never letting up until she finds the answers & truth behind her story. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but there are quite a few future events I can’t wait to see how they play out in the next book! Phenomenal as usual!!

Avery Shaw does it again

The character of Avery Shaw is the confident tough woman I would like to be more like. She is tough but fair and does not tolerate fools. She is driven and successful in a good old boys career field. The best part of any series is watching a favorite character evolve. No one wants to read the basic same story, book after book. Avery is evolving which just makes her character more interesting. Best of all she says stuff that we all would have loved to say but don't dare.
Every time a new book comes out I make sure to read over the weekend. Instead of binge watching I binge read. Thank you Amanda Lee for a wonderful series. I look forward to many more of Avery's adventures. By the way, I love the snark.

Avery Shaw Keeps Getting Better

Amanda M. Lee has done it again! I'm a faithful reader of all of her books, and Avery Shaw just may be my favorite character. With her bluntness and carefree attitude, she makes me laugh out loud.

The plot is a surprisingly complicated county political race, and while politics isn't really my thing, it kept me riveted throughout the entire book. The twists and turns had my brain working trying to figure out who was behind the murder until the very end.

I can't wait for the next book- there's a teaser at the end that I won't spoil, but suffice to say- it will be epic!

Can't wait to start the next installment!!

Avery is reporting on the local election campaigns.. her main nemesis Tad Ludington is trying to weave his way back into office after Avery's previous take down.. but there's dark forces (deliberate pun!) at work and Tad's campaign aide is murdered.. all Tad's worried about is his "campaign plan" which has disappeared.. when Avery stumbles across a pile of financial reports which indicate that one of the candidates is money laundering things really hot up.

She's still working on getting Jake and Lauren together, winding up Derrick and avoiding Devon's baby shower.. can she perform a hat trick?

Avery Shaw is an obnoxious, snarky reporter
for the The Monitor – Macomb County’s lone
daily newspaper in Michigan.
She is covering the current election about to
take place.
One of the candidates volunteers is killed.
But why? Papers are missing the aide
possessed. Avert finds some of them stuck
in a bush outside a restaurant. What is the
significance of these papers? Are they an
indication of fraudulent monetary transactions?
Welcome to the political world in which
Avery Shaw gets involved!!
This is book # 12 in the Avery Shaw Mystery
series. It can be read as a stand alone.

Avery Shaw is one of my favorite series from Lee. But this book was kind of super boring. I was hoping for some major temper tantrums from the king tool himself, Tad. And as much as I love strong female characters, I also love a good dramatic crisis. Avery tends to get into some seriously dangerous trouble but this time it was just a tense chat. And as much as I like Eliot, I’m always going to shop Avery and Jake. Eliot is just to accommodating so it’s gotten pretty boring. No matter what though, I’ll always be a huge fan. Not every book can be a slam dunk.

I love this author, but I'll admit that Avery hasn't been my favorite heroine. She has grown on me as the series has progressed, and there have been some installments where I have really seen some development in her as a character. This installment wasn't necessarily bad, but I didn't really see that development in either Avery or her relationship with Eliot. The mystery was interesting and I liked the election angle. I did get a little bored of Avery's obsession with setting Jake up with Lauren, but I'll be interested to see how it plays out in future books.

I love Avery, she says what she wants like the rest of wish we could.

Avery Shaw is hands down one of my most favorite characters of all time! Her snarky attitude and be overwhelming and sometimes I want to wring her neck, but she is just so entertaining. I do wish the men in her life didn't give in quite so easily all the time, but in no way is that a deal breaker. I hope to read many more Avery Adventures.

Love love love this author!

Amanda M Lee can’t seem to write a bad story, no matter which series or name she’s writing under and this is no exception. Avery Shaw’s life continues to get more complicated and despite her being a character you ought to hate, you just can’t help but love her and root for her to win. If all newspapers had a reporter like her on staff I think we’d all read the news with much more enthusiasm!

So good!

I absolutely adore AML's books, but I have a special place in my heart for her Avery Shaw series. Avery's snark, crazy antics, and her amazing relationship with Elliot, her friends, and family make every book entertaining and a joy to read. I'm already ready for the next book in the series!

Avery is always Avery

I love Avery. I love her relationship with Elliot. I really want to see her one time skip family meal and see how her mother reacts. I don’t believe her when she says what will happen. Also, she shouldn’t have caved so easily to Derrick about the baby shower. Technically he was just doing his job.. she should of held out longer bc I super hate Devon too.

Can't.stop reading

I find Avery so annoying, her audacity knows no bounds and I can't stop reading her stories. She owns it, you've got to respect that. The author doesn't disappoint you, she does have a specific brand of humor that I appreciate. I recommend you try it, even if it.drives you a little crazy. I think Avery will capture you.

This book was hard to put down. Amanda M. Lee has a way with making me laugh. I love that Elliot and Avery are together and continue to work things out. I also like that Avery, Elliot, and Jake can work together as friends. I love to read books that get my emotions involved. I can't wait to read more of the books.

It's MICHIGAN!

Avery is great. I would on occasion like to smack Elliot for his anger and control issues but I don't have to live with him. However this is Michigan and one glaring error in the book, this one at least, is calling pop soda. Nope ginger ale is Vernors and pop is pop.

Some kind of festival is going in the town and Ted is running for office. There's a dead body (as usual) who was a political aide to Ted. Ted's documents are missing

So Avery has that to deal with. However, something else is going to happen. Eliot's mother is coming.

The question is which of those two things will be hardest to deal with.

Another really good story.

Avery seemed more insecure than normal, but I loved more of Tad and now, given the outcome, let there be even more of his and Avery's back and forth. I really hope Lauren is on the up and up, its great for Avery to have a female friend.

Oh I just love Avery Shaw and all her quirkiness. I laughed out loud as she agitated every other character in the book. Seriously, when I need a good comedy I always go for an Avery Shaw story.

Always funny!

Janet Evanovich has nothing on the humor of Amanda M. Lee. Always fun to read when you need a pick up. Avery Shaw is my heroine in so many ways. More Comic con than Mall rat, she is continuously entertaining.
