Growing up is an awkward waltz. Between keeping promises and meeting familial expectations, even the best intentions you bring into a relationship can result in stepping on toes, at times.
Volume 4 will contain chapters 11, 12, 13, and 14 of Tripping Over You, along with the mini-comics between each of these four chapters.
Every time I review of these I seem to gush over the artwork. This will be no exception, if anything the artwork keeps getting better even if it's only in subtle ways.
It's always difficult writing a review for an ongoing story, particularly four volumes in. The characters and their relationship continues to grow, we learn a little bit more about some other characters like Hebert, and there's more of Milo interacting with his parents much to Liam's discomfort.
There's some nice scenes with Hebert teaching Liam to cook and Liam's amazement at how cheaper food is when you do it yourself.
Speaking of Hebert, I find myself developing a little bit of a crush on him. He has a whole wounded puppy dog thing going on. He seems that he wants Milo but knows he can't have him. He's just really kind of... sad.
It is nice seeing the relationship between Milo and Liam progress, seeing them start to deal with some issues, the way they perceive each other and how they address it. They're moved past the early phase of their relationship so it's all starting to become, I don't want to say more adult... but they spent so much time sneaking around or waiting for one another that it's good that they're both there.
It's always odd writing a review for a book in a series, nobody is going to start on volume four, but if you've read the previous three volumes and enjoyed them, then what are you waiting for?
They're a couple of young adults figuring out life and love and relationships, dealing with their families and friends, with being out, moving into their own place... They've got their own issues but they love each other and they're working on it.
It's hard to describe how good and refreshing this is to read. It just is.
TOY comics are always sweet. I find as they go on, there’s a bit less tension than there used to be, but they are always a nice light diversion from the real world and reading them in print is much easier than in webcomic form.
