I finished reading Typhoon Time, today and I loved it. It is a page turner, well thought out, historically accurate, and lots of great references. Ron was able to bring in his personal family knowledge, knowledge of WWII, Cuba, and the interwar years, military hardware as well as time travel theory. As a reader of hard SF and a fan of history, I was very impressed. I particularly liked that the historical characters were believable, written in a way that I would expect them to act.

Meh...

Plot is average, the premise feels a bit off, feels like a boyhood power fantasy put on paper, but there is a good flow in his prose.

The best line in the whole book comes right at the beginning. History professor Martin Richter would typically describe himself as the peaceful, non-adventurous sort. The revelation that he is “standing on the bridge of a nuclear submarine about to enter a wormhole in a desperate attempt to violate the laws of physics and travel back in time” (13) makes him realize he may have to revise this opinion. Martin, an expert on pre-World War II Germany, was recruited by terminally ill, billionaire, Holocaust survivor Eric Sobol for a secret meeting that takes place on Sobol's yacht. It's moored in the Caribbean. In a hurricane. But that's part of the plan. Eric has assembled a team of history experts, computer whizzes, an interpreter and a couple ex-military types that he shoehorns into a sub he persuaded the Russian government to lend him, complete with nuclear missiles and crew. The hurricane will provide the power to send the sub through the wormhole back to 1938 to stop the Holocaust and Second World War. Or nuke Germany into oblivion, because the best way to stop someone from killing millions of people is to kill everyone yourself first. Despite this fool-proof plan, there's a flaw in Eric's vetting process and things are sent awry by stowaways and saboteurs. Typhoon Time has all the hallmarks of a classic spy thriller, with a time travel twist. Unfortunately, this also includes racist portrayals of non-white characters and the clichéd love interest twenty years the main character's junior. Overall, it's not too bad, but if you're looking for a book that will smash the stereotypes in the spy thriller genre, this isn't the one.

Typhoon Time is both an exciting and fascinating read. Wormholes, a time traveling submarine, and a world teetering on the brink of WWII sounds like a recipe for disaster, but, instead, this book really cooks. Fast moving, crammed full of meticulously researched historical facts, and populated with a cast of well-developed characters who provide the occasional punch of humor, Typhoon Time keeps the suspense turned on high until the very last page. Ron Friedman is definitely an author to watch, and I can't wait to read his next book.

Right from the first chapter, this book was captivating, putting the reader directly into the action. The characters were well developed, and the multiple POV's provided great insight into the plot lines and dynamics which heightened the suspense. This is an excellent read for anyone who enjoys military science fiction, historical fiction, and thrillers. Not to mention some witty humor, and an ending that will leave you eager for more.

It’s Typhoon Time (paper from WordFire Press) as Ron S. Friedman sends a Russian nuclear submarine through a wormhole to 1938. Eric Sobol, a billionaire like George Soros, has hired the boomer in an effort to stop the Holocaust. One of his aids is secretly there to help the Nazi’s and manages to steal a nuke. It helps that the sub can launch communication satellites and that one of the men stealing the nuke gets the clap. Our heroes race from Washington to Munich while the sub faces Uboats and German destroyers. Lots of fun, even though Einstein suggests that they may of just created an alternate time line instead of changing their past. Review printed by Philadelphia Free Press

This book was very difficult to put down. There was always something interesting happening, and just when you thought it couldn't get any more suspenseful, it did. The combined military and political efforts of the characters intertwined brilliantly, creating intriguing action and conflicts. Highly recommended!

I rarely read a time travel story that doesn't drive me nuts, but Typhoon Time nearly sidesteps the pitfalls and paradoxes while providing a military, historical fiction. The majority of the book takes place in 1938, as an interesting motley from 2018 attempt to forestall World War II. Of course, things don't go well, and they're left scrambling to overcome unexpected resistance.

A nuclear submarine traverses a worm hole to 1938 in order to prevent the Holocaust, but things do not go as planned. This is a fun book—a mystery-thriller wrapped as a science fiction historical. Where it really becomes intriguing is when history departs from what we know, and anything can happen.

A multi-national group of interdisciplinary specialists take an advanced Russian sub carrying nuclear warheads back to 1938 in an attempt to prevent the holocaust. What could possibly go wrong?

Entertainment, history and science fiction all rolled into one.

Must say that i'm not the worlds biggest fan of time travel stories that attemt to justify time travel with science... Maybe it is possible? Who Knows? That aside though this is a fun adventure with some really good set pieces written in. If ever there was a worthy cause for a billionaire to ivest in time travel then this would be it.
