An interesting insight to the life of a Russian Orthodox Pilgrim. Some applications mentioned were very simple, and appreciated. Much emphasis on navigating the life of inner prayer, and gleaming knowledge from the early Eastern church fathers—particularly those found in the Philokalia (collection of mystical and ascetic writings )
This is an autobiography of sorts, so I cannot be displeased with the lack of Scriptural support for certain claims or practices. Truly, that was the major upset of this book. The passages that did reference Scripture, were either underwhelming or super fascinating.
Overall it's an interesting read and I'm glad I set aside time to allow myself the chance to learn a little more about the Orthodox faith.
I read The Way of a Pilgrim, translation by R. M. French, amended with previously omitted text restored from the original manuscript treasured at the Holy Monastery of Saint Panteleimon, Mount Athos, Greece.
