Same Here, Sisterfriend: Mostly True Tales of Misadventures in Motherhood

Rate this book
Join Engaging Motherhood's contributing author Holly Mackle and her sisterfriends as they laugh their way through the misadventures of authentic motherhood. Full of wit and charm, Mackle guides readers through a collection of hilarious and vulnerable tales written by moms who have seen it all.

Laugh alongside a group of real mamas as they tell of the never-ending joys and unpredictable perils of motherhood. Between diaper fiascos and singing potties, and whether mowing to escape reality or being mistaken as a pile of laundry, hilarity ensues. The extraordinary vulnerability found in Same Here, Sisterfriend will not only remind every mom that she's not alone, but also encourage her to look for grace in even the messiest moments.

Sisterfriends keep each other sane, strong, and lighthearted, which is exactly what Holly Mackle's mom-community bring a little levity to the rough trenches of mamahood. So long as sisterfriends are only a text away, they can be sure of one thing—they will never have to face the mom life alone. The mostly true tales of their misadventures

• Animal noises overheard in the Lactation Center
• Rewarding themselves with chocolate chips while potty training
• After effects of the imaginary play game horse bath
• Cell phone photos they can't imagine deleting

With a little commiseration and a lot of laughter, the ladies behind the creation of Same Here, Sisterfriend encourage moms everywhere to let go of the image of perfection and rest in knowing that their sisterfriends have their back. So it's time to link arms in sisterfriend solidarity, because we might as well laugh, mama.

This book has made me laugh and cry as I have read it. Think of it as a mash- up between kids say the darnedest things (told from the mothers perspective, while questioning her parenting skill and sanity. Obviously, this is the laugh.) and a written version of ‘This is Us’ where the mother, Rebecca, tells everything from the real perspective she has on things as the mother of the family (the cry). It’s been a quick read, as I couldn’t put it down because it’s so relatable.

You know all those crazy, hilarious, and random things that happen in motherhood? This book is a compilation of stories like those. I laughed out loud multiple times while reading it. And even more, I actually felt more understood as a mother and less alone. This book was such an encouragement (and so hilarious!)

I'm not surprised that I found myself nodding and smiling through each honest and bare-souled essay in Same Here, Sisterfriend. Motherhood is both painful and beautiful and these essays bring fresh perspective to the multifaceted pandemonium that happens in our lives, in our hearts, and on our kitchen counters. I want to give this book to all my girlfriends and say, "Look! There are others just like us!"

If you’ve ever wished for a whole book that is the funny back pages of a magazine this book written by my friend Holly Mackle is just it.
I don’t recommend reading it in a chunk but rather by bits and pieces. So put it next to the porcelain throne or your favorite, cozy chair’

This book is hysterical. It has a very clear demographic - moms; however, I'm not a mom and STILL found myself laughing out loud through most of the chapters. I've encouraged all of my "mom friends" and even my "non-mom friends" to read it! I kept picturing my own mother and the stories she would tell if she had a chapter in Same Here, Sisterfriend, and the stories I'll tell when I'm in charge of keeping tiny humans alive one day. I think a lot of women need a daily reminder that it's okay not to be perfect, and this book is fantastically relatable for anyone fighting the uphill battle of perfectionism.

The end of every chapter of this book left me wanting to connect with a friend and tell her why it was my favorite chapter, (or bug my husband to death asking him if I can please just read him one more part!). This is just the perfect read for a tired mama who probably takes her role...and the crazy, foolish choices she and her kids are sometimes making...just a little too seriously. It’s a invitation to laugh, relax, and also believe that you really aren’t the only one who often feels like you’re blowing it all the time. It’s even an invitation to believe that maybe you’re doing a d*#n good job, and Someone Bigger has your back.

I liked this book. I think the nature of the book- essays by different women- made me prefer some chapters over others, purely out of personal preference. Some things were just funnier to me than others. But overall, it's a really fun read and I think most moms would enjoy it. It's just the kind of thing I need to read in this super tired, still up frequently in the night season of life- something lighthearted and fun with some spiritual encouragement sprinkled throughout. The recommends at the back of the book are also a fun addition to the book.

This book was great! It is pretty light hearted, yet it pokes at the parts of motherhood that need poking at and affirming. No one is as perfect as their Instagram account, we all do silly things, we have stories to tell about the crazy things our kids have done. This book made me laugh so much and miss good friends whom I no longer live near.

This collection of motherhood tales made me both laugh and cry. Each short story, told from the voice of one of the twelve ladies who came together to write this compilation, echos the themes of motherhood unified - that we are all in this big silly, laughable, beautiful mess together. A good read for any mama.

This book started out very strong with great stories and good laughs. I could feel the camaraderie with these women and their tales. Somewhere past the half way mark I felt a bit lost in the purpose and found I was glossing over more of the chapters than fully connecting.

Hilarious and Real

This was such a good read. Both for the humor, but the nuggets of sister-friend wisdom. You will enjoy this, and very likely if you have kids - you’ll find yourself nodding your head thinking, “been there!”
