Reads like it was written in 1966. (Because it was). Tired Freudian imagery and a "disturbed" young woman make for a dull book.

This book is what I expected, a simple small town mystery. It follows the case of Carol, a young girl who had drowned under a bridge. A running woman was spotted fleeing the scene, rumours fly on who she is and if she witnessed the death, or if she caused it.

It was exactly as I imagined, and was just what I wanted.

What at first seems a tragic accident turns sinister when gossips start to speculate that an unknown women was seen fleeing from the site where a girl drowned. Like all of the author's works, this was a deftly written tale of psychological suspense.
