Wolf shifter Raif Williams is a cynical, hard-boiled detective. The last thing he wants is a mate. He’s already married to the police force.
Clumsy, awkward photographer Denny Wade has sworn off men. Why else would she live in a town of mostly females?
When chasing a lead brings Raif to the eclectic town of Helen’s Corner, and face to face with clumsy Denny, he's forced to face a truth more frightening than any of the ruthless criminals he chases. He's just found his mate.
In the late 1800s, on a homestead in New Mexico, Helen Cartwright was widowed under mysterious circumstances. Knowing there was power in the feminine bonds of sisterhood, Helen created an oasis for women who, like herself, had been dealt the short end of the stick. Like magic, women have flocked to the tiny town of Helen’s Corner ever since. Although, nowadays, some call the town by another Hell’s Crazy Corner.
This is a feel-good shifter rom-com novella that transports you to a place where laughter is the status quo and a smile on your face is guaranteed.
Timid deer shifter finds her mate in a dominant alpha... 5 stars!
Another great shifter romance from C. Ayers! Denny is a deer shifter and is anything but the graceful animal who lives inside of her; she's timid around men and wants nothing to do with her bossy wolf mate. Raif is a police detective who is happily married to his job and has no desire for a mate who will distract him from said job. Too bad fate has other plans for them both.
I LOVED Raif and Denny together! Raif was so dominating and yummy while Denny didn't sit back and let him boss her around. Their path to happiness was a rocky journey but oh so satisfying to watch. I am loving this series so much and can't wait to continue ♡
Can you imagine a poor doe shifter and a predator wolf shifter? No wonder poor Denny wants nothing to do with the growly Detective Williams!
Raif just wants to solve this case and get out of town, back to Chicago. Problem is wolf has other plans, like sticking around and chasing that delicious doe! Just a nibble, she is his mate after all!
I loved reading Wolf Detective(Shifters Of Hell’s Corner Book 2). All about Denny Wade a young women who is a doe shifter and a photographer with her own business & Raif Williams is a wolf shifter and a police officer in Chicago. He comes to town to question Denny about a notorious killer, who she may have come across while taking pictures in the town of Smith. Raif is staying at the B & B in town, and goes inside her shop, where chaos is ensuing and in the middle of the screaming Denny gets a whiff of Raif and runs straight out her back door and keeps running into the tree line where she shifts into her doe and takes off. Officer Raif is hot in her heels and eventually overtakes her also in shifted form. Brings her to the ground, and nonchalantly asks her why she took off running! The author wrote a story about a timid young women who has had nothing but hard ache since she was a child. Read about Raif & Denny and see if they can overcome their dislike for one another and turn around and find mutual respect & love for their mate! This is the second book in this series, and I like how the shifters in this series are all different kinds, coming together and loving one another! I can’t wait to read book 3. This series should be read after The Burden Bears series. Enjoy reading!!
Raif is a detective from Chicago who is in Hell's Corner trying to track down a murderer connected to organized crime. He is a wolf shifter and is very detailed and organized with everything in his life. His father was a detective who was never home much with his family. He swore that he wouldn't get mated so that his mate wouldn't suffer loneliness like his mom did. Denny is a disorganized photographer in Hell's Corner. She is a deer shifter. Her father was one of those guys who came and went whenever he wanted. After he left for good, her mom hooked up with abusive losers who were always tyrannical. They both realize they are mates but don't want to be with each other for different reasons. But Raif has to hang around and protect her because she has photographic evidence of the murderer, but she can find it. Will Raif leave for good so that he doesn't bring crime into her life? What are the other women in her group telling her to do? Read to find out.
I felt pretty lukewarm about the first book, so decided to give another one a try, and it seems that the same problems I had with that one seem to be indicative of the series. It's not that it's bad, it's just not very good either.
Danny works as a photographer and Raif is a police officer trying to tracker down a killer that could lead to him bringing down a big crime family. He finds out that Danny may have inadvertently gotten a photo of the guy, so finds her in Helen's Corner in order to get a copy of the picture. When they meet, they get the zing or whatever and know they're mates.
The rest of the book is Raif telling himself that he's no good for Danny and trying to not start anything while Danny believes he just doesn't like her.
Nothing new or original here. If you've read a shifter book before, you've pretty much read this one. It might have been interesting if the plot with the killer had been fleshed out a bit or there was something more happening between the MCs, but it mostly just feels kind of formulaic and meh.
This book does a great job of pairing two people who, on paper, make no sense—and showing exactly why they work. It’s a true opposites-attract story: a tough, workaholic cop with no faith in his ability to love someone well, and a highly dysfunctional artist who’s been burned enough to stop trying. The emotional tension felt believable throughout.
What stood out most was how both characters had to confront their own hang-ups—Raif’s deep-seated fear that he’d hurt someone by not being enough, and Denny’s ingrained belief that she wasn’t worth the kind of connection the matebond offers. Their growth felt messy and real in a way that made the ending feel earned.
It’s not a dramatic book, but it does dig into some heavy internal fears—and comes out the other side with something warm, steady, and satisfying.
Cute story about a shy, awkward photographer and a stubborn, workaholic detective both with daddy issues. She is a doe shifter and he is a wolf, talk about your mismatched couples.
Denny is always late, always clumsy, and knows she is destined to be alone. Her father was always leaving her mother and she has no use for a man who will only leave her high and dry. Raif is a detective from Chicago who is only in town to solve a case. Even in Helen's Corner where the woman greatly outnumber the men and most are shifters, he knows his life has no place fora mate. When Denny ends up in danger from a man connected with his case, Reid knows he must protect her, but then he must leave her alone. Not if Denny has anything to say about it.
This book wasn’t better than book one. In fact there were a decent about of grammatical errors and sentence structure issues that made reading this at some times, painful. That and some of the writing was weirdly written “my mom’s mom”... so your grandmother? I was not a fan of these characters. The male kept doing the whole pushing and pulling, running off ect. It got monotonous and started feeling like I was re-reading some of the same scenarios all over again. The female lead wasn’t too bad but idk this one wasn’t for me. I also feel like I’m more into shifters that shift into something alpha-ish? She turned into a doe. Meh. Not my cup of tea. That being said, I still like the premise of the book and town setting.
The second book in the She-Shifters of Hell's Corner is another wildly wicked ride. The ladies of this town are so much fun, and they really care about each other. Raif and Denny's story is definitely full of twists and turns. They both have issues that they need to deal with before they get their HEA. I wish Helen's Corner was a real town because I would move there in a heartbeat. I definitely recommend this book, and although it can be read as a standalone, I would read the first book as it gives more background on the town, and the other characters in this book. Mature eyes only due to the hot shifter loving! 😘
The women of Helen's corner stick together, it is a small town made up of mostly women, some shifter some not. Denny is a deer shifter, she is sweet a bit awkward, and her life is like organized chaos. She does not need or want a mate. That is until a detective comes to town. Raif needs Denny's help, she is a photographer and may have film with evidence on it. Worse is he is her mate.... How can fate pair a wolf shifter with a deer shifter? Funny, dangerous, best friends, and complications steer the ups and downs of Denny and Raif through their relationship. It just takes faith and time to get your HEA.
When you are least expecting that is when love hits you! Both are dead set against relationship....fate made other choice s.
Denny is timid and non confrontational and lots of baggage to pull around. Photographer runs her own business. She is a witness unknown to her puts her at risk from a murder. Detective Raid is married to his job as Chicago PD and on a trail to catch a murder and take down a crime syndicate. Neither is looking they are actually running from relationships. They are both shifters they know finding your one true mate is rare n for life. The bumblings they do is the adventure.
The law gets his man and has to chance a mate unwanted.
Great story of a Detective finding the bad guys and the bonus of finding a mate not wanting to. The clueless mate not wanting a mate and the humor of the fates putting the most unusual couple ever. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Denny and Raif are such opposites they are perfect together.
I love the women's devotion to each other. Denny is so cute and kinda funny in her own klutzy way. Raif is kind a neat freak and very brusque. Denny won't take much of his bossy alphaness. It takes a lot for Raif to figure that out. I loved the harvest festival. Great addition to the series.
Raif and Denny were two very unlikely mates. He was a predatory and she was a deer. You couldn't get more different than that. However when they came together it was hot!
Raif just wanted to get the information he needs for a case and get out. He doesn't want or need a mate. Little does he know that a stop in Hell's Corner is going to change his life.
Reasons I can never give this author 5 stars Every book is a bunch of wishy washy mates trying to fight the mate bond And that she either doesn't use an editor or has someone that's not good enough. "Things I hadn’t noticed the night before while taking advantage of her the night before ." That's just too ridiculous to pass editing.
The storyline is incredible and I enjoyed the characters. The chemistry between Denny and Raif was awesome. However, the backstory I felt rushed like it was a passing thing that didn’t matter. When I read it I didn’t feel it was part of her story. I just needed more depth with Denny to feel her connection with the past.
Loved the first book in the this series and liked this one as well. Loved the characters and the story. I minused a star because the editing was off in parts, and I thought the background of the main characters wasn’t flushed out that well.
Good stories with good character development and storylines. The only issue I have with most of the stories in this collection are that they are so very rushed at the end. 4.5
Denny and Raif's story is funny and sweet, a good read. You will cheering Denny and wishing Raid would get out of his own way. The shifter women of Hell's Corner have it going on if only the men would learn.
It has everything you want in a romance? Plenty of action, humor, betrayal, survival, steamy hot romance with awesome characters and a bonus story that was fantastic with my favorite shifter dragons. Keep them coming and so ready to read the next book.
Raif and Denny's story was not as good as book 1. This hero is not endearing himself to anyone for 3/4's of the story. This is also a shorter story. I will move on to read books 3 in the series hoping it will get back to being good as book one was.
Love visiting Hell’s Corner, this is my second time reading the series, you will want to read them all. Each book is a well written stand alone story, no cliffhangers!
Good suspense.. Some real action. Would have liked a scene that eneded the suspense part. Kinda a let down on that. But the tension between the 2 was great and a fun read.
Loved a heroine who was learning herself as well as taking her favorite alpha male down a peg or two. With lots of great laughs in between. An excellent story all the way around.
Dennis and Raif are disaster that make a great whole if they don’t kill each other in the process. They both have traumatic past they need to come to terms with and more going in that meets the eye and a Werewolf with a Weredeer is a hoot to read.
Another short story from Hell's Corner. A detective on a case comes to town and he is looking for leads on a case. His lead is accident prone Denny and trouble is not far behind.
OMG!!! You write the funniest books ever!!!! I Loved hilarious story. Denny been so clumsy and Raif been so clean & organize, so funny!!! I laughed my butt off while reading it. 😍😍😍😍😍😂😂😂😂😂
I read the 1st book and I liked it. So I wanted to read the second one and I was a little more than upset that the book I read wasn't the book I wanted. You see the book that the cover say it is wasn't the book the story that is in this book.
It’s a quick little read. Nothing new or groundbreaking. Everything happens pretty fast. They meet...they’re mates...they have sex...they argue...something dramatic happens...they’re in love...the end.
