A sweet and lovely historical novella from the Montana Sky series and the town of Sweetwater Springs. If falls between Singing Montana Sky and Bright Montana Sky and can be read on it's own.
This story is a touch sad as it deals with the a tragic death of a young man in his prime and the resulting grief of friends. But as in life, friends and family draw strength from each other. Felicity and Lars grow their own friendship and love out of their sadness. It's a rich and beautiful story of survival and new love.
The Norwegian floral painting tradition of rosemal is highlighted in this story. Quite interesting and beautiful if you've never seen it.
I alternated between the audible version of this story, narrated by Lara Asmundson, and the kindle version. Both had me alternating between teary and happy.
When you first meet Felicity in “Singing Montana Sky” she has just suffered the loss of her fiancée. I was so happy to be able to learn her story and more about Lars. They are both trying to heal from the loss of their friend.
This is another great book that is part of a wonderful series.
Nice to visit the folks who populate the Montana Sky Series. Such different times. Death can come quickly and new life and love spring up just as quickly.
My Girl is about first love, loss, and finding a greater love. The story weaves characters we have met in previous books. If you haven't read this series, so not fear. Debra Holland beautifully intertwines the information of those characters into this story. Enjoy!
After a logging accident kills the man Felicity Woodbury is to marry she is heartbroken but very angry that men are already trying to "court" her and Johnny's only been gone for a few weeks. Lars Aagaard was a friend of Johnny's at the logging camp where they worked and he was the one who delivered the bad news of Johnny's death to Felicity. Connie a friend of Felicity's comes up with the idea that Felicity and Lars pretend to be courting to discourage other men from bothering her. They agree to this plan and along the way they both find that they have a lot in common and want this pretend relationship to become real.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet romance and all the ups and downs of these two trying to find their way to true love. Ms. Holland always writes such well-written plots with great heroes and heroines in this time period. Going back and getting to find out what all the previous characters are up to is such a great part of the reading experience with her books. If you haven't read any of her Montana Sky books you need to do so or if you have an haven't had a chance to check My Girl out, go for it. This is a lovely read!
This book happens concurrently with other Sweetwater Springs books. While other times the overlap just has only had a bit of interaction with other people, in this one Debra gives readers the same scenes from different points of view. So when we see the meeting of Felicity and Constance in Bright Montana Sky we have the recollection as Constance sees it, now we have the same scene, but how Felicity remembers it. Also, this book touches on authentic traditional Norwegian homes. All in all,a wonderful story albeit a bit sad as the main characters are in mourning for much of the book.
This book was fun! I know there's a lot of heartache in the beginning, but learning a bit about the Norwegians was so wonderful! My great grandparents were Norwegian, Swedish, Yugoslavian and Hungarian on my mother's side. For some reason I've read more books with Swedish characters, but rarely Norwegian.
But I also loved that Constance and Lars were able to be there for Felicity when she needed them. Like a gift from God in the midst of sorrow, so you can hang on, just one more day! Friendship and love can heal just about anything!
Oh Debra Holland just can't write a bad book. Her characters are always well developed and her stories have adventure and of course a little or a lot of romance and more. My Girl is no different and I loved the hero and heroine and the awkwardness of any kind of relationship even friendship between them based on her situation. I loved this story and I loved the characters. I can't wait to read more about these characters.
This novella was a nice surprise. I wasn't expecting another book in the series for a few months. I always stop what I'm reading to devour the latest Montana Sky book. Historically accurate per my searches, great social history depiction, and smooth reading. Well written with no jerks and starts trying to read around typos and bad grammar. Debra Holland writes professionally and creatively.
This is one of the sweetest novella's I've ever read. The meaning of the red door is so special that I smiled as I read the final chapter. Yes, I cried at the death of the first love but Lars is so great and wonderful, who wouldn't love him. The flora he painted, the colors he added to his home and all the love he put forth to make it perfect for Felicity. Thanks for a great book.
I just love the Montana Sky series and was glad to read this sweet story. It starts out very sad, but it shows how Felicity worked through her grief with Lars. Lars is so different with Felicity and he knows right away that she will be his girl some day. With Felicity's fiancée gone, it takes her a little while longer to realize her love for Lars. A beautiful story.
I am such a fan of the Montana Sky series, I have read most of the books in this series. This one was very compelling and gave a taste of some new culture. I love that, learning about places that I may never get to see. Thank you for this. It is the reason I love to read.
Felicity worked as a maid and had a beau, Johnny, who was a logger. A terrible accident took his life, and Felicity fell into despair.
Lars was a logger with Johnny and felt compelled to tell “his girl” about the tragic accident at the job site. Little did quiet, reclusive Lars know how his life would change ❤️
My only criticism is that My Girl is only an -ella. The characters are so finely realized that they could fill a full length novel. I truly enjoyed this teaser of a story that ended waaay too soon. Well done!
This is a great book. The story didn't feel rushed. The characters were believable and interesting. I've read all the Montana Sky books and this novella is another really good one!
Felicity and Lars met under tragic circumstances but this beautiful story showed how they were both able to provide the support and healing that each other needed. Their friendship that grew into love helped them both overcome past hurts and well as the one that brought them together.
The characters that Marie Force writes about are very engaging. And the plot of this story, young love, an accident and then a renewal, is just beautiful.
Telling of the death of her boyfriend, brings an unexpected twist into their lives. Protecting her through her mourning period, causes a love to fall into their hearts.
A feel good romance that takes us back in time to a small town and some wonderfully interesting characters. Felicity was all set to get married when her fiance is killed and then to ward off potential suitors she agrees to allow Lars to court her.
Enjoyed My Girl a lot. Enjoyed reading about the decorations and how the Swedish painted their homes to make them welcoming and cheery. Could almost see how his little home looked.
