When Meara MacEagan spied the Viking camp on the shores of her native Ireland, her heart quickened in fear. A haunting past experience had taught the Erse maiden how cruel the northern barbarians could be. So when a fall down the steep embankment swept her into the arms of a giant, bare-chested stranger, the terrified beauty fought desperately to escape. But, to her amazement, the bronzed, muscle-bound raider tamed her fury with soothing words, stroked her tenderly with his powerful hands...and set her free! Back in the safety of her clan, Meara could not forget the virile Norseman whose gentle voice and exploring caress filled her with such fiery longing...
HE WAS A BRAVE AND NOBLE NORSEMAN
Brander had come to his Irish mother's homeland not to raid, but to find a wife and settle in peace. Yet no sooner did he arrive on Celtic shores than he was branded an enemy by a midnight-eyed maiden who tempted him beyond all reason. Though she feared him, her stormy gaze hinted of a passion longing for release. Though she fought, he would win her with soft kisses and slow caresses...Though she enslaved him with her innocence and beauty, he would soon possess her in love's embrace as he plumbed the depths of her deepest desires...and freed the wild, wanton woman who belonged to him alone!
***English*** I love reading romances - they don't teach you anything but they are easy to read. But this book was not very interesting in my opinion. It's kind of dull, characters are not well developed and I couldn't connect with any of them. I wish I liked the main couple - Meara and Brander, but I found them very dull. The relationship I found more interesting was the one between Brander's sister and the monk (was he Meara's cousin...I don't remember at the moment). I wish they were the main characters because they are far more interesting than the other two and better developed too. The ending was very weak - crappy ending for a weak book. Overall I don't recommend this book to anyone - not even the romance lovers.
A red headed warrior struts around from village to village like a peacock offering protection to Erse men and women from Viking raiders, and he fancies marrying this little brunette maiden. He’s arrogant but he is the King’s number one man. So MFC father is hellbent on her marrying him. What an honor bestowed to their family! But MFC wants nothing to do with this King’s man. She cannot stand his pompous behavior. One day, while picking berries with her little sisters on the cliffside, she spots Vikings on the beach. Four summers ago, when Vikings last raided their shore, a Viking man forced her down and almost took her. She was saved but she now fears the Vikings more than anything else. In an attempt to flee, one Viking man spots her and climbs up the cliffside to talk of peace. These Vikings want to live in Ireland, build homesteads and live peacefully. She, to her own surprise, makes friendship with this Viking son of book one’s characters, and begins a forbidden flirtatious relationship with him. MFC is surprised by this blonde haired, blue eyed man. She is suppose to fear him and yet she loves him.
I love that this is a continuation from book one as it is twenty five years later and MMC is the son of book one’s MMC + MFC. I enjoyed the glimpses into the past, especially since book one ended terrible.
I love the forbidden romance trope. The taboo of not suppose to be together but being together anyways. This book felt instantly different than the previous one.
However, this book plot was unorganized. If the plot had focused around the Viking and Erse maiden, I probably would have adored it. I love the secret romance between the two. The sneaking around. But the author decided, here, to make lots of side characters (the monk) and pursue ALL their stories as well. It takes away from the entire book. So disappointed. I’m not sure what the point is because none of their stories contributed towards the main romance.
I wanted this “love triangle,” which is more like a girl forced to marry a man she doesn’t love, falling in love with the guy she is forbid against seeing and the men battling for her heart.
