Daoma Winston was a prolific writer of Gothic romance and horror/thriller novels. All of her novels have a strong occult theme and usually feature ghosts, witches, demons or magic. (Not "Golden Tramp.")
Bethany is a happily married woman until her husband hauls her off on a visit to his family mansion in the middle of nowhere. Family secrets are revealed and dangerous accidents start happening.
This has way too many cliches of the genre. The family comprises of handsome brothers, a frail matriarch confined to her room, a beautiful but icy female rival for the heroine to spar with, and of course an inheritance. The male character's names are Cummen, Callin, Denton, Henley and Vesper. You won't see many Bobs or Davids in these stories. But really..."Cummen"?
Accidents include being pushed down stairs and dragged underwater, and Bethany falls for them every time. When she is invited to go for a swim by the icy female rival, in a remote cove with rough water and deadly currents, saying "no" is beyond her ability. You can guess what happens. Things limp along like this until the ending, which sees the baddies suddenly erupt in confession madness. A forgettable read.
