Rate this book
A lost world. An ancient code. A deadly chase.

Five ancient statues have been unearthed in South America, each containing a mysterious coded message hinting at an origin many thought the mythical world of Atlantis. As word of their discovery spreads, the prized figurines become a treasure bounty hunters will kill for.

CIA agent Heidi Moneymaker calls in the only team for the Guy Bodie and his posse of relic-hunting thieves. If they are to find the ancient civilization, Bodie and his team must decode a series of clues—starting with the cipher on the statues themselves—that will take them across the world and to the deepest depths of the ocean. But they are not alone in their mission.

Pursued by mysterious forces intent on keeping the legendary empire hidden, hunted by Chinese special forces and the relic hunters’ lethal foe, the Bratva, the team races to find the lost land—and Bodie’s enemies will stop at nothing to be the first to discover Atlantis’s secrets.

Another riveting read from David Leadbeater!

This is the second book in the Relic Hunters series and finds Guy Brodie and his team of relic hunters still working with the CIA, this time on the trail of Atlantis itself. Two sets of statues from are found in archaeological digs on different continents, however the sets are identical and date back to a time when this should not have been possible. Brodie and his team, with the help of an uptight historian, soon decipher the messages left on the statues and find themselves following the clues around the world. Things aren't that easy though, there are several other interested parties intent not only on finding Atlantis for themselves, but destroying everyone that gets in their way.

I found this book to be a rollicking adventure as we follow our intrepid heroes around the world, through thick and thin. I read through it very quickly, as I couldn't wait to solve the clues! Plus the easy camaraderie of the team always brings a smile. A great, fun read, recommended for all lovers of adventure novels.

My thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Publisher’s Description: Five ancient statues have been unearthed in South America, each containing a mysterious coded message hinting at an origin many thought impossible: the mythical world of Atlantis. As word of their discovery spreads, the prized figurines become a treasure bounty hunters will kill for.

Review: Well, once again we follow the exploits of Guy Bodie (lol) and a mostly snarky (but deadly MMA expert) Carrie Something Something. Rounding out this duo of dynamic douche bags is a computer whiz, an old dude and a planner. Wow. And, they make their living retrieving (stealing) ancient relics. Um kay. Only ancient relics have untold sources of unimaginable power, that left in the wrong hands would send the USA back to the dark ages. Hence the CIA stepping in to save the day and hire these morons in order to disavow their involvement yet simultaneously giving Team Bodie an international pass from extradition and imprisonment.

Now, if you can swallow all of that, you are good to go on reading. Me not so much. BUT, I did read this to the end and although parts were intriguing, the whole A-Team shtick with the CRASH, BANG, BOOM!, and expert douchebaggery coupled with the tough but tender CIA hot chick, just fuking wears on your entire being. However, the author makes no excuses for exhibiting a “cinema” type story line, perhaps in hopes of getting a movie deal.

This is still quite a bit better than the first installment as the characters are not as annoying and the movement is quite a bit tighter. I do hope (in order to keep reading this series) that the CIA Historical expert joins the team and that Carrie falls out of a plane to her long and agonizing demise.

The Atlantis Cipher is the second Relic Hunters novel from David Leadbeater, it follows on from the first, with the team wanting to follow up on their search for Jack Pantera. The first novel introduces the characters and the first few chapters of this second title focuses on further character development. This character development does aid with some of the quirky dialogue between characters, which I felt was a little awkward in the first novel. The dialogue in this novel flows considerably better with an insight into these characters and their relationships. I like that we get more of an insight into Heidi’s backstory and it helps to understand the CIA motivation and gives a more complex narrative throughout. I really enjoyed the backstory given to Bodie and the insight into the reasons he’s become so attached to the other members of the Relic Hunters, this adds a different dynamic to Guy and makes him even more relatable than the first novel.
The general story follows along a similar vein to the first, this I expected and was happy with, the action seems more ramped up in this second outing and this kept me hooked throughout, the short 3-9 minute chapters meant putting the book down became very difficult. Ultimately this is an action adventure novel and sometimes they consist of very weak characters and very strong action sequences, this is never the case with David’s books and he manages to balance the strong action with very relatable characters, that you genuinely care for and with the characters seated well, the humour and communication between these characters helps the story to flow. Description is done very well, we saw that David could write this well in the first Relic Hunters novel and his previous novels but there is very little in terms of “all-points bulletin” descriptions allowing the reader to build their own universe, characters and locations. Midway through the novel, the story gets back to its base values and brings in the original ideas of a big heist and grounds this group of characters as burglars, with a cheeky mention of a “kindle sized keypad”. The novel flows from there and takes a reasonably predictable journey with a few curve-balls to keep the reader guessing. The ending is genuinely heartfelt and well written, giving these characters a sense of togetherness, the decision made by David at the end was one I felt fitted well and gives the team a feeling of enmity for further novels. It truly ties this group together as a family rather than a ragtag team of burglars, it gives them more to fight for and puts bigger things on the line, emotionally for each of the team.
Overall I felt that the Atlantis Cipher was a great second novel in this Relic Hunters series, David has addressed a few small sticking points from the first novel’s style and this gives an all round better story and reading experience. David’s experience in this genre truly shows that he has a talent for it and I look forward to whatever else he has to offer.

The Atlantis Cipher is a step up from the first book in the series, but it still left me somewhat dissatisfied. David Leadbeater’s writing style reminds me a lot of Rick Chesler—titles and storylines that start out so promising but ultimately fail to deliver.

(Minor Spoiler Ahead): Like Chesler’s books, The Atlantis Cipher doesn’t revolve around the actual Atlantis, but rather the search for it. I’ve been yearning for a book that tells the story of the discovery of Atlantis, with most of the book dedicated to exploring its mysteries and the action that unfolds there. The closest I’ve come to that experience is Andy McDermott’s The Hunt for Atlantis.

The book itself isn’t badly written. In fact, it’s well-crafted, but ultimately I felt like a child eagerly awaiting Christmas, only to find one small gift under the tree when the day finally arrives.

I might adjust my expectations and return to this series at a later stage, but for now, there are too many other books calling my name. The Atlantis Cipher was an improvement, but it still didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

Guy Brodie and his team are still serving their CIA masters and taking a cue from the first book are eager to continue their search for Jack Pantera.

The story also brings some focus on the character's back stories and some like Heidi's gives the reader an understanding of the CIA's focus on this team and in turn the story and also some of her motivations and actions.

We get to experience Brodie's story and the dynamics and his attachments with his team members.

The team is now on the road to the lost city of Atlantis and with expectations of advanced technology from the lost city, other malevolent powers come into the chase and we see a tussle between powers to get the road map. Read more in my review blog https://sanjibsblogreads.blogspot.com...

Guy Bodie (English), Cassidy “Cass” Coleman, Sam Gunn (computer wiz), Eli Cross, & Jemma Blunt (coordinator) were discussing their next lucrative heist.
Kissimmee, FL. Shingle Creek. CIA agent Heidi Moneymaker was their new boss.
5 ancient Azore statues had been unearthed in South America.
They were stolen & maybe somewhere in Spain/Morocco.
Washington, DC. Scottie (Heidi’s sidekick) had called the bunch of professional thieves.
1st. the group had to take care of Jack Pantera (husband/father, former boss).
Plans changed. Guy, Cass, Jack, Steph Pantera (wife/mother), Eric Pantera (son) were making their getaway with the Bratva (Russian gang) in hot pursuit.

Their vehicle was being riddled with bullet holes, & soon came to a stop.
It was now survival of the fittest.
The Pantera family was in a safe house.
CIA Agent Moneymaker (daughter), Heidi, Sam, Eli Cross, Jemma “Jem”, & Lucie Boom (25+, historical expert) welcomed all of them back.
Lucie was giving everyone a presentation on the 5 ancient Azore statues priceless artifacts.
News flash: Chinese Special Forces team tortured/killed Carl Kirke (entrepreneur, thief).
He had acquired the valuable Danel’s Compass.

Which group will find the treasures?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written adventure book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great adventure movie, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

E-book/ARC/Adventure: This book just came out so no spoilers here. I did get this book from NetGalley in lieu of an honest review. It was okay. I did feel duped because the cover was underwater and I love reading underwater books. The crew of misfits didn't even hit the water until 65% into the book. I chose the book because of the cover even though it had the word Atlantis in it. I have never had any luck with Atlantis books.

I will give the author credit on writing a book with several characters. The first part of the book splits the group of "Leverage" type thieves in two. I liked that because you could learn about each character before the were all together in a room. That is hard to write and harder to read when not done well. The author does a good job of writing up to nine people in a room.

I didn't like the plot. It started out okay hunting the compass, but all the factions vying for the location of Atlantis was odd. I really don't see what a civilization from 10,000+ years ago could offer technology wise. There are several references to unknown source of technology that, if found, that faction could rule the world. What? No, whoever has a nuclear bomb hold the key to being a superpower. I felt the author should have stuck with large amounts of gold or diamonds that, if released into the world's market, could destroy a superpowers economy. The only other hint of this technology is maybe fresh water for the world.

Another thing I didn't like was all the dead bodies. Granted, they are bad guys, but no one seems to care or has PTSD about it. I'm sure the body count was no different in the first book. I really can't recommend this book. I read the whole thing to see how it ends, but I was ready for it to be over.

Who is this mysterious Yasmine? What's next for the legendary "Relic Hunter team?" Heidi Moneymaker is a CIA agent running an off the books operation. So what happens when the hunt for Atlantis begins? Now every major power is gunning for Agent Moneymaker and her team. They will stop at nothing to steal the discovery of Atlantis or keep it a secret all together. Or is this an elaborate hoax for the Bratva to draw bodie out of hiding, the one person they want to kill most.

Who will win, in this game of cat and mouse, mixed with elaborate clues only the smartest minds can solve.

I loved this book to the very end. I have to say, "The Bratva," never give up. There will be times where you will be like,"Okay their safe, no their in danger, no their safe." David Leadbeater is a true author that knows how to craft a story. He maybe able to compare to James Patterson one day, in another genre besides horror. I would love to see his craft after another five years from now. I would recommend, " Atlantis Cipher" to anybody who loves a good mystery slash thriller novel.

A super-entertaining thriller in the vein of James Rollins that doesn’t let go from the very beginning. This is the second book in a series, so I was missing the whole setup, even if it was easy to catch up. Guy Bodie heads a team of relic thieves. Heidi Moneymaker from the CIA is blackmailing them into working for her as relic hunters. That’s all you need to know because the author recaps the main characteristics and relationships of the team without falling into repetition. The plot is a nice combination of non-stop action, chases and bad guys, but adding a historical background and picturesque locations around the world. I was impressed by the weapon-handling skills of the well-trained gang, which is a pet-peeve that can turn off my concentration, when a character calls a pistol the wrong name or uses a safety catch that doesn’t exist in that model. My least-favorite part was some silly behavior from one character who should know better, and Bodie’s insistence to just wound super-duper bad guys who are ready to kill him with their bare hands. I also would have loved to see more of the ending… I don’t know how to say it without spoiling the conclusion but I felt like the action ended too soon. I will be adding this series to my list of addictive reads.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Amazon Publishing UK!

Book Reviews - "The Atlantis Cypher" eBook was published in 2018 (September) and was written by David Leadbeater (https://www.davidleadbeater.com). Mr. Leadbeater has published more than 25 novels. This is the second in his "Relic Hunters" series.

I received an ARC of this novel through https://www.netgalley.com in return for a fair and honest review. I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of Violence and Mature Language. The story is set in the modern day. The primary character is elite thief Guy Bodie.

Bodie and his crew are called upon once again by CIA agent Heidi Moneymaker. They are tasked with finding a lost civilization, the fabled Atlantis. Not only must they battle those tasked with keeping the relics hidden, but they must also contend with both Chinese and Bratva elements also seeking the lost city. Will they be able to find Atlantis first and keep the powerful secrets thought to be found there from being misused?

I thoroughly enjoyed the 7+ hours I spent reading this 288 page thriller. While the plot seems a little far-fetched, I do like the team that the author has created. It is a fun, mindless adventure. The cover art is OK. I give this novel a 5 out of 5.

While "The Atlantis Cipher" isn’t quite a standalone (as the second in a series), it can be safely read on it’s own: there weren’t too many annoying references to the first book that made the second one unreadable and that’s actually something I appreciate, particularly with adventure/thriller novels, which is what I would classify this book as. It has been a WHILE since I read an adventure novel, I think the last one may have been a Clive Cussler earlier this year or late last year (?). Who even knows.

I did feel like this was a fun book to read. The action was fairly fast-paced, and while the dialogue and plot changes did feel a little choppy at times, overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable and fairly quick read. I will say, I was NOT prepared for the surprise plot twist at the end and I didn’t appreciate it at all. The frown, it was fierce. And just the way it happened…. rude. Not manners at all. And while I’m pretty sure Atlantis is unlikely to come up again in other books of this series, the author has written a ton of adventure novels and I will probably (one day, in that distant and foggy future when I actually have time to do so) have a look at a few more of them because I really like adventure novels that involve mythology. It’s a thing. But I’m even happier when Atlantis is one of those mythologies. That’s happy-making.

So, I read the first book, The Relic Hunters, and I liked it but this one the team just kept getting the shit kicked out of them and they were ready to fight again after about 4 hours sleep. It really was unbelievable at times.

The players: Bodie, Cassidy, Jemma, Gunn and Cross are a great bunch. I think I like Cassidy best since she can definitely kick some ass. Heidi and Lucie, of the CIA, is pretty good too.

This was all about following the clues that lead them to the lost city of Atlantis and the Russian mob, the Bratva, and the Chinese special forces-like group were also on the hunt and that’s who Bodie and his people were constantly fighting, all trying to be the first to discover Atlantis.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 26 times.

This just came out but it was a free read and free listen. But you never know how long that will be.

As to the narration: Jeez, Pete Simonelli AKA Sebastian York truly is terrible. His women’s voices suck and he reads without any kind of emotions. No matter what he never ever whispers. The only thing he has going for him is his nice reading voice BUT you have to do more than read.

Five statues in darkest South America are exact matches to 4 statues which were found in the Azores. Separated by 4000 miles, how on earth can they be connected? With the Russian Mafia after them, former allies colluding against them and a shaky contract with the CIA, Bodie and the gang are truly up against it!

Atlantis has been a myth which lured many into treacherous waters but will the team make it out alive?

Heidi continues to struggle with the balance between CIA operative and mum. Bodie feels abandoned by his father figure/mentor and for some reason the Russian Bratva are lusting for his death. But this time the team are not untouched by tragedy, and it really tugged at the heartstrings. There is also a new "intern" on the team who, in my head, is like a female Sheldon from Big Bang Theory!

They are again traipsing all over the globe on the hunt for clues. This did have a tighter story than the original book and there are fewer constant reminders to the reader of each team members talents. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed and there are many open threads that need dealt. I'd continue with this series.

3.75 stars really!

You don't have to be an expert in archeology or Atlantis to enjoy this book.

This is the second book in The Relic Hunter series and since it picks up pretty close to where the other one leaves off, I highly recommend if you haven't read the first one you do that first. This version will be available to the public on 6 September 2018, that's in a few weeks from this writing, so you should have time. However, if you are sensitive to violence as well as adult language and situations then I'd say this series is not for you.

A public announcement of an archeological dig's findings sets the relic hunter on the track of clues that they hope will lead them to a priceless historical treasure. They knew there would competition, what they didn't know was how deadly they would be.

I enjoyed the overall story. There was a good blending of action, intrigue, and history. Like I said, I'm no expert in the archeology aspect but it seemed plausible to me.

Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. It was my choice to read and provide my honest thoughts and opinions.

Thanks to Net Galley for the advance copy! Always appreciated. The Atlantis Cipher is the second book in the Relic Hunters series. This first book was, you guessed it, The Relic Hunters, which I unfortunately have not read, but do plan on after reading book 2! Yes, back assward, if you will, and if you are offended by that comment this book may not be for you. There is mature language and violence, all part of the story, nothing gratuitous. I thought it was a fun action packed thriller in the style of a James Rollins or Clive Cussler. I always enjoy the mystery thriller genre when done correctly, as this one I am glad to say is. I think there is some character development from the first book, but again I haven’t had the opportunity to read as of yet. Plenty of adventure as the characters traverse mythological places, such as Atlantis possibly? Well you will just have to read, and maybe start with Relic Hunters! Again thanks to Net Galley for the ARC, and happy reading! Thanks!

Waste of Time

2 stars given only because the conceptnof intl societies is cool. The team have no unique skillsets, Villians are too strong and the relic hunters just keep flying blind always. CIA as usual is of no help and agents/teams keep getting killed like flies. No mysteries solved by the team and they arent thieves ans dont plan. Dont waste tine reading. Thr author is just fascinated by mysteries and writing shoddy books with no mystery at all ...

Negatives: Spoilers Ahead
1) a mafia organization of 6000 groups with global reach to declare war on CIA.. Seriously ??
2) Relic Hunter team is useless. No plan works, Bodie has no contribution. They are always a step behind. Only one useful is Gunn for hacking..
3) Cross died and the team isnt angry with Heidi at all but keeps getting blackmailed.
4) Super Thief Jack Pantera is a snivelling coward with no original plotline.
5) The list of negatives is endles......

A really fast paced story that kept me wanting to read it. I only put the book down when I was tired, and then when I unfortunately reached the end.
Bodie and his specialist team of thieves are still seconded to the CIA, and Agent Heidi Moneymaker. This time, they have to follow the clues to locate the missing continent of Atlantis. They are not the only people looking for it. There's a group of Chinese backed thugs, whose existence is denied by their government and also a couple of groups of Bratva, a Russian mafia type organisation. All sides are well armed, but some are better armed than others.
There are a number of fights throughout the book, with various characters being hurt or killed. But there is an all out eruption of fighting, shooting and bombing at the end of the book, as all sides come together to 'discuss' their problems.
A really good story, that, whether you believe Atlantis is real or not, was believable.

This the second book in the series sees the team chasing clues left on statues found in South America. Not having read the previous book in the series, I had no preconceived notions about the characters but found that the story was written well enough so that it did not deter from the story. An enjoyable romp through history and across the globe, there was sufficient description of places and people to keep the reader engaged without overwhelming, allowing the plot to progress at a good pace. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable read.
I received an advanced copy of this book which I choose to leave a review for.

Having just finished one deadly job for the CIA, the team is just waiting on Moneymaker to contact them for another. While they wait, they decide to go after their ex-mentor Jack Patera to find out why he betrayed Bodie. But then artifacts pointing to Atlantis are found and the team has to temporarily split up to handle both cases.

I just can’t get how much this team bickers and puts each other down. Yet they talk about being a team and family. It distracts from my enjoyment of the story.

Fave scenes: Heidi getting a coffee & skittles, pushing the backwards car, fighting the hang gliders, tourist snapshots in Italy and surfacing the submarine.

This book was right up there with "The RelicHunters" in terms of excitement.
The authors background research however is not quite up to standard. Morocco and the Mediterranean far from being in view from the Azores are in fact some two thousand kilometres away and well over the horizon. His description of volcanic lakes on the Azores is very accurate so he clearly has done some research but his geographical in accuracies led me to award the book three stars when I would have otherwise gone with four.

The new forever gang

Bodie, the leader of the Relic Hunters, learns why Pantera his mentor, betrayed him. They have a saying "home/family is where you have a sense of belonging." Bodie and his team learn more about each other's strengths and weaknesses. They are courageous, brave and resourceful. Each one matures in their own way, and that new maturity is thoroughly tested, making greater cohesion. These stories are "quests" in the tried and true line-up like Indiana Jones or Tolkien's hunt for power using an item quested for to obtain power. Fast moving. Action packed.

This was a great follow up to the first book and Bodie and the team certainly have their work cut out for them because we know nothing is ever easy for them. You easily get sucked into the story along with the locations you wish you could visit, well yeah maybe not like the whole water and chambers part freaked me out, yes very exciting with what they found but no to potentially being stuck there. This book has great characters, insane adventures, loads of action, a great many laughs, tense times and amazing artifacts to be found while dodging crazy bad guys.

Good escapist read

I enjoyed the book but find the characters difficult to care about and not overly believable. The story is fast paced and full of action but I am not overly keen on the ‘America is in control’ side of it. The whole book feels incomplete, clues are solved too easily, places explored too quickly and it jumps around. Scene changes happen instead of linking together. Overall - ok but I prefer this authors other series.

Another good story from this author, very much along the same lines as the first book in the series. Perfect escapism to read on a long flight. The scene in the XXX with the XXX and the guns broke my heart a little at the wilful destruction, but other than that, an interesting cast of evil characters... almost too many to keep track of (probably my biggest issue with the storyline).
Not sure yet whether I will carry on to read the third book.

Family is a sence if belonging

Caught in the snare of the CIA Heidi after she breaks Brody out of the Mexican prison and then used him and his group to steel a statue now the job is finding Atlantis. True to the authors stories it’s packed full of adventure danger and sorrow, they travel the world not sight seeing but remote areas and get themselves into so much trouble. There are a couple of rescues here too Brody’s old boss and Cross’s ex I highly recommend this book
