One of the only books that places Theo at the forefront of his own story and emphasizes his importance as an art dealer not only to Vincent. I really appreciated the chronological breakdown of Theo's life and the important developments in each year at the back of the book: it clarified a great deal. A must read for all Van Gogh scholars!

This book gave an interesting biographical overview of Theo, his involvement in the Paris art scene as a collector, his relationship with his brother Vincent, and his marriage to Jo Bonger. I was admittedly disappointed at how brief the biographical section of the book was, and this was followed by essays that would be more to an art historian's taste, first about Theo's role as an art dealer, and secondly about his private collection of paintings (I found this easier and more interesting to read). I basically read through it in two days though, having checked it out from my university library, and it is a very pretty book with full page colored paintings and photographs.
