David Mills Hay’s debut novel tells the story of Jason Knightbridge, the kid from the wrong side of the trailer park whose charm and good looks, athletic chops and hops, plus a few lucky breaks, soon have him sitting on top of the newly-burgeoning Walla Walla wine industry. But Jason’s restless. Make that reckless. And when the first thread frays from the tapestry of his enviable life, and then another and another, it doesn’t take long for it all to unravel. Yet, just as the bleakness becomes unbearable, Jason finds himself not as alone as he thought…not as worthless as he imagined.
DAVID MILLS HAY has been involved in the investment business for over forty years. After lengthy stints at two Wall Street firms, he purchased a majority interest in Evergreen Capital in 2002. I loved Worthless: A Tale of Unlikely Redemption! I didn't want it to end and what an ending it was.....This is a story about a man in most people's eyes wouldn't deserve Redemption so the reader has a love/frustration relationship with him. I think we can all see character flaws we don't like in ourselves or others but the author, David Hay, weaves a great story to hook you as the story unfolds in the state of Washington wine country. It's a wild journey from the first page, I thoroughly recommend this book!
David Hay has written an honest, human, spiritually haunting book with characters and a universe that jump off the page. The relationships are messy just like in real life... and he has captured the unique world and culture of the Pacific Northwest in a vivid and and enriching way. I wanted to drive those roads and jump into those cold, clear rivers myself. When do we get to read the sequel?
David Hay's book plucked all of the right heart strings. It is a deeply moving and compelling journey that takes you from the trailer parks of Eastern Washington to the Wine country of the Palouse. There are twists and turns that take you to other dimensions and what it's like to have it all...only to lose more. It's a beautiful coming-of-age story that demands deep reflection as the last page turns.
Traveling at high speed fueled by anger, betrayal, and testosterone, Worthless by David Hay, takes you on a perilous but ultimately redeeming journey through the vast vistas of Eastern Washington. Holding on tight during this fast paced book, through the dark depths of a young man's search for not only his identity but his soul, gives you pause long after the last sentence is read.
With today's ceaseless news cycle, we're bombarded with the negative. War, family, corruption, and divisiveness can dominate our days if we're not careful. Thus for me it was nice to read a work focused on a person's transformation toward hope.
Set in (for those of us on the East Coast) the lesser-known parts of rural Washington, Worthless is a tale following one man's journey from vanity to connectedness. Often tugging at the heart strings, this is a quick read that put a smile on my face. I hope it does the same for you.
