A legend…a myth…a high stakes game that could shatter them both.
As one of the oldest surviving vampire hunters in the Foundation, Lana has learned the toughest lesson: success comes at a price. So while the yummy stranger she bumps into at Caesar’s trips all her temptation switches, duty comes first. Better to be alone than to gamble with someone else’s heart—or her own. Although maybe a one-night stand won’t hurt…
Byron has set a one-way course for revenge against the Vegas vampire who murdered his uncle. When he collides with Lana, though, her scent calls to him like a potent aphrodisiac. The only explanation: she’s his true-mate. And the timing couldn’t be worse. He can’t afford any distractions—not to mention it’ll be hell convincing her to love someone who sprouts fur and fangs every full moon.
One drink together turns into a daring night of passion. Their erotic interlude ends abruptly with the news that Lana’s partner has been abducted by the very vampire Byron seeks. Now Byron has no choice. He must reveal what he is and risk a rejection that could spell his own destruction…
Warning: Contains a hot and steamy taxi ride, wild sex you want to sink your teeth into, and a shower at the Venetian that may need to be closed for repairs until further notice.
Crista McHugh is a NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY BESTSELLING author of fantasy and romance with heroines who are smart, sexy, and anything but ordinary.
She also writes fantasy with less kissing and a lot more action as C. A. McHugh.
She currently lives in the Tesla-filled suburbs of Seattle with her husband and two children, maintaining her alter ego of mild-mannered physician on the weekends.
One of those plesant surprises, bought on a whim, didn't expect much, didn't know author and now, WHAT ELSE HAS SHE WRITTEN. Can't wait for the rest of the series if there will be more.
The premise to this book was ok, a human female has a sixth sense when vamps are present then she stakes em. She's the best hunter in the foundation. Add a werewolf or two in the mix is even better. It's just a shame it felt as if the story was rushed and I didn't feel the connection between the two leads at all. In actual fact the werewolves came across resembling pussy cats. Shame but I did find it free.
There's something that bothered me a lot. Questions raised by the author are unanswered. And by the blurb of the next book in the series (which I won't be reading, BTW) they aren't answered at all. I hate that. Not a bad read, but why the hell do you say vamps can't smell the fMC if in the end It has zero consecuences for the plot and we NEVER know why. It's treated like it's a major plot point, only to be forgotten after being mentioned twice.
I enjoyed this book. Byron and Lana just seem to have a good chemistry together. I love that Lana is a very dominant person out of the bedroom, but can be somewhat submissive in the bedroom.
I'd love to read more about Lana and Byron.
Looking forward to reading more of the Kavanaugh Foundation books.
From the cover and the blurb I was expecting more steam than was delivered. The hunter profession, with all of it's dangers, should, in my opinion, supercharge the emotions and demands from the huntress, rather than turning her soft and squishy. I wanted our huntress to rule the bedroom with an iron hand and wished that author had made her stronger and more demanding.
It was very “meh”. I barely felt anything for the situation and it mostly seemed to be just the two protagonists tip toeing around each other right till the end. It was bland and frankly, despite the ongoing action, boring.
I enjoyed this. Gotta love a good urban fantasy where it's not just assumed that all sorts of things that go bump in the night are real. Big reveals between hero and heroine felt realistic and definitely enjoyed the mayhem. Climactic battle was great!
Lana is a very experienced, highly trained vampire hunter from what’s known as ‘The Foundation’. She’s lives a lonely existence due to the occupational hazard of eventual death from her job and because of this connections with anyone are highly discouraged.
Byron is the interim Alpha of a wolf pack and has made it his mission to hunt down the vampire responsible for his uncle’s death. His pack is counting on him to bring the killer to justice, but complications arise when his true-mate enters the picture and now the bad guys are after her.
Two people on the same mission for different reasons on a fated collision course with each other. The end result is more than they ever could have expected.
Warning: you will not want to put this book down once you start. From page one you’re thrown into the action and all the reader has to do is sit back and watch as the scenes come to life. You can feel the emotional connection between Lana and Byron grow as they deal with the vampires hunting Lana and the out of control, unexplainable chemistry that explodes between them. No lengthy details or descriptions necessary, all the scenes explain themselves, so it is a very refreshing read. Throw in a few other interesting characters and you’ve got the makings of a story you won’t soon forget. I can’t wait to read what Crista McHugh’s has up her sleeve next.
Recommended reading for those that seek a fated love story with an extremely kick-ass hero and heroine.
