If there’s one thing Cerise has learned in her short time on earth, it’s not to play with fire or you get burned… badly. Not that she's ever listened. Lockhart is fire. Raging fire. Fire she doesn’t need. But, like gasoline, when faced with fire, she’s going to be consumed. There’s no running from Tobias Lockhart when he wants you. There’s always a new game to play. Unfortunately for Cerise this is a game of hatred and she’s the shiny centrepiece.
A. E. Murphy is the Queen of sarcasm and satire, she likes long walks in the park, as much as ice cubes like to chill in a roasting oven. She’s effortlessly independent and so good at adulting it’s unfair on the rest of the world. She only napped twice today and has only avoided the dishes for three days before making the child slaves do them this morning. Winning! Her favourite hobby is writing, her worst hobby is reading through that writing. Also she has two cats that carry toys to the top of the stairs and drop them down so they can chase them. They do this repeatedly in the middle of the night. Who cares if she has work the next morning? Not the cats, that’s for sure. And if it’s not the cats doing the waking, it’s the toddler crawling into bed with her and pulling individual hairs from her scalp with pudgy little fingers for comfort. This is likely why she’s in a constant state of grump unless there’s chocolate and coffee. P.S. Please leave feedback, if not on the book then on this ridiculous bio she wrote herself. It’s the least you can do seeing as she’ll forever talk in the third person now. Alex loves her readers. Alex says thank you. Alex smiles.
Loved it.... not that there was any doubt, but this is a trilogy and sometimes the second book can be a little flat or filler. That was not the case here!! I loved this book just as much as the first (with the exception of that ending). I’m still a huge fan of Cerise... she’s feisty, yet vulnerable and she’s a fighter. Tobias knows how to test her, but he made great strides in this book. That ending though... I’m sickened but excited for the final book (which I’ve already pre-ordered)!
Wow, what a step up from book 1. I absolutely LOVED all the drama and angst in this one. It was great. Admittedly I wasn't crazy about the romance at the beginning. Shockingly they became less likeable as a couple. Lockhart really was a bastard and treated Cerise like a sex slave. He forced her to change everything about how she looked and acted and said it was to make him more worthy of her. How does that make sense? Then we have Cerise genuinely hating Lockhart, while being forced to be his girlfriend. When he goes away for a couple of weeks she feels happiness and relief. That was not a joyful or even slightly happy romance to read about.
However, that was for like for the first 1/3 of the book, and the last 2/3 were brilliant. They became the best and sweetest couple and it was amazing to see how more caring Lockhart became and how loved up Cerise was. I couldn't put the book down after a while. That ending was intense. Can't wait for book 3.
I started reading Lockdown a bit unsure. Whilst I liked the characters and their interactions, I wasn't sure what to expect with Lockhart and Cerise's relationship, especially with Cerise being almost forced into being with Lockhart. As I got through the book I liked it decidedly more and I found that I was actually starting to think Lockhart was all right. Murphy allows the reader to feel more sympathy/empathy with Lockhart in this book which makes it easier to enjoy reading his and Cerise's relationship unfold. The sex scenes are pretty hot too, but that's a given ;)
One word of warning to potential readers... This does contain areas of abuse, especially near the end of the book. If you are uncomfortable with reading about abuse, this book may not be for you.
Ok so this is book 2 in the Lockhart/Cerise trilogy and as I said in review 1 I really wasn't sure about the storyline/Lockhart in book 1 but I can say he totally redeemed himself in this book!!! I devoured this story in nearly one sitting desperate to know where their story went and wow the highs and lows are unbelievable!!! I loved seeing how Cerise was able to change (not knowingly) Lockhart in small ways bit by bit making him more understanding and loving. He melted me at parts and at others I still wanted to kick his butt lol What a journey these guys go on just to try and find themselves and be together. It made me smile and also made me so sad too. With this one being left in a way that I NEED to see what happens next im already ready to jump into book 3 asap! *Read as part of KU*
Omg 😳 it can’t end like that!!!!!!! This is book 2 and is just so bloody epic that I read it in a few hours, I’m now downloading book 3 as I need to see Tobias kick arse
With this book I can understand characters more but I still don't like them. I don't have much hope for this series, but I will finish it just to see what will happen.
