I love this book.

Is this going to be a cartoon show? I feel like it could be a cartoon show.

Plus it has an app so you can code your own robot!

This book is awesome!

This was super cute and I love that it has a coding interactive app you can download as a supplement to the learning. The app wasn't very user friendly but it sure looked great!

I was immediately captivated by the cover of this book. A sassy-looking black girl has what looks like a glowing, magical sphere of light hovering over her palm while a goofy robot behind her goes amuck. Hmmm, I wonder what this?

Inside, we learn the wacky story about the inventive slob Rox who loves coding and bringing inanimate toys to life via coding. She loves making things but hates cleaning her room. (Oh, yes, I can relate.) So she invents a robot to perform cleaning and tidying tasks for her. Too bad she forgot to give it an Off switch.

Hijinks ensue as her robot runs amok, as anybody could have predicted. Rox is called upon to use her ingenuity to solve the problem she’s created.

Rox is a wonderful character. I like her intelligence, spunk, creativity and inventiveness. I like the fact that she’s black (although most children likely won’t care) and the story manages to bring in a bit of transvestism, too. Cool!

Children who want to see girls in the part of inventor-hero will like this picture book. It’s got a smart girl AND a robot. What’s not to love?

Miss 4 adored this book and so did I. A key theme in the book is about not putting people into boxes (figuratively or literally) and a lot of thought appears to have gone into the illustrations + text of the book to celebrate inclusivity and diversity. Miss 4 loves the robots and the humour of the book; she loves that there's a girl as the main character + coder; and we had a good opportunity to talk about the fact that boys can wear tutus if they feel comfortable in them (and not just for plot reasons).

Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

It's super cool that there's an app you can use with this! And the code is great for introducing code or using for a STEM project tie in! Rox is great, so is the mention of burn out and figuring out what makes you the most happy, problem solving, and support from family.

Was expecting there to be info abt actual coding in here. There is not. The book itself is fine, but the cover, title, and blurb make me think that this book was going to introduce kids to the PROCESS of coding.

I loved some things about this book so much, for instance the fact that a guy was comfortable in a tutu, yes, please.
