Whether you are just setting out on your journey with Christ, still exploring the Christian faith, or have been a faithful follower of Jesus for decades, this book is designed to provide you a clear and focused picture of what a life of faith in Christ looks like.
This book is a great grounding resource for believers and non believers alike in regard to the Christian faith.
McClendon and Kimbrough take on the fundamental truths and hard questions that make up the basis of the Christian faith and presents well sourced and supported answers in a clear and understandable manner.
It is said that the first thing legendary coach John Wooden would teach the new recruits on his teams at UCLA was how to tie their shoes. He was teaching that to be successful in life and on the court, you have to begin with the fundamentals.
This book is the shoe-tying version of Christian life and doctrine. There is nothing in here that anyone would consider controversial. There is also nothing here anyone would consider new and brilliant. It is simply the very important and necessary fundamentals of Christian life and belief. The book was required reading for one of my older classes and I only just now got around to finishing it.
I read this for my capstone class at seminary. I have read several books on "mastering the basics" of the Christian life lately and while I did enjoy this one, I have stumbled upon a few other books that are 4 and 5 star when it comes to that subject matter.
Great concepts, but the atrocious proofreading/editing made it really hard to concentrate on the actual content. I was constantly going back to reread sentences because they just didn't quite make sense as written.
