I tell you what, for sloths, these guys move really fast and all over the place.
The sloths are cozy in their tree when a wild storm comes thought and demolishes their home. Now, they must face the wild jungle and find a new tree to live in. They quickly find a new tree, but it is infested with snakes and they must move on. There are wild boars on the loose as well. They find a field and an mud hole and they can't stay in either. The go up the river and just when they think all is lost, they find someone to help them.
It's a cute and funny story. I bet my niece would enjoy this one. I think these are fun middle grade stories and up. They are a quick read.
This wasn’t bad, but the first one was soooo good that I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. Bink and Gollie couldn’t catch lightning twice either, so maybe it’s something inherent in the genre?
More sloth adventures. This one has a nap time song:
The sun is out, and I am up. But I need some sleep to fill my cup. All my friends in my home, make me feel not alone! When I dream, I'll think of that! Somewhere nice to hang my hat! My mind is still, my cup is full. I'm headed to sleep, eyes of wool.
I'm furious that the author has managed to write HIS SECOND Peter & Ernesto book with even MORE characters and STILL FAIL to have a single female one. Not one. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
How does this sht get past an editor TWICE?!?!?!?! I expect so much more of First Second.
Libraries: please stop buying this series until the author agrees to stop publishing mysoginist drivel.
Life happens and sometimes you lose your home, for whatever reason. Peter & Ernesto find themselves divested of their home, and so head out on the hunt for a new one. Along the way the find others in a similar situation, and others who would like to take advantage of the travelers homeless circumstances.
My crew has discovered Peter & Ernesto and turned it into a participatory reading, where parts are assigned, the lights are lowered and The Play Begins. . . .a blast!
Even better than the first book. Peter, Ernesto, and their sloth buddies lose their home tree in a hurricane. They spend the book looking for the perfect tree home, and make lots of friends along the way.
Peter, Ernesto and their pals lose their home in a hurricane. They go looking for a new tree and encounter many dangers. (See end papers. Very funny insider joke from the beginning ones to the end ones. Also the peccaries are very funny.) Eventually they find a new tree and a new room/treemate.
Bookaday #38. Who doesn’t love a graphic novel about sloth buddies? Hilarious adventures ensue when Peter and Ernesto search for a new home after their tree is destroyed by a hurricane. Had to look up if armadillos really curl up in balls! Sloth facts at the end. Check out the case cover art.
Returning to the same characters and territory he explored in the first book, Peter & Ernesto: A Tale of Two Sloths, the author/illustrator continues to flesh out the world in which the sloths live. After their favorite tree is destroyed in a hurricane, the two friends and three other sloths must find a new home that will keep them safe from predators and allow them to relax in comfort. They try various spots, but nothing seems ideal. After a bird suggests that there's the perfect tree near the river, they set out to find it, but have no idea where the river end is. Eventually, they make their way to their new home, but their journey is not without its challenges. My favorite part would have to be all the to-do about a jaguar, which the sloths think is chasing them and the peccaries. But something else is going on. As they settle into their leafy home, it's not clear how long this new living situation will last, but it surely was fun getting there, and the message about there being strength in numbers is a sound one. The Photoshop illustrations with colorful panels work well to tell this story. There's just something about a sloth that makes for an interesting story and characters, isn't there? The author also provides some interesting facts about them in short excerpts.
It's the return of my favorite sloth buddies! Peter and Ernesto are back, and they've got a new adventure when a hurricane blows their beloved tree away! Peter, Ernesto, and the rest of their sloth friends must set out to find a new tree. A great tree. A tree just like the one they had, preferably. As they journey through the jungle, there are new dangers to brave: angry ants, slithering snakes, running pigs, and a very hungry jaguar! Ernesto is up to the challenge, but poor Peter... well, Peter's going to need his best friend next to him as they lead their friends to a new tree. And maybe, a new friend or two along the way.
I love this new series! The two friends are like the Bert and Ernie of sloth civilization, with idealistic, upbeat Ernesto and cautious, nervous Peter acting as counterbalances to each other. The new animals the group meets as they venture through the jungle are hilarious, and the twist near the end will have your readers cheering. It's emotional to see the sloths survey the damage to their tree, and it adds a depth to Peter's and Ernesto's characters as they take on the responsibility of shepherding their group to a new home. It's just as emotional to see them find a new tree and the final resolution will just make you feel good. Peter and Ernesto is feel-good reading, and who doesn't need more of that?
I can't wait to see where life takes them next. Add this to your graphic novels collections and talk them up! Make a Best Friends display and make sure to include Frog & Toad, Elephant and Piggie, Narwhal & Jelly, and Duck and Porcupine.
Another Peter and Ernesto book exploring their friendship and different personality styles. In this one, a terrible hurricane destroys their home and they need to find a new one. I like that despite their very different personalities they support each other instead of getting horribly irritated with each other! Miss 4 really enjoys the sloths and hopes there will be a third adventure.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
Peter & Ernesto the Lost Sloths by Graham Annable. GRAPHIC NOVEL. First Second, 2019. $18. 9781626725720

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH
Peter and Ernesto have lost their home in the hurricane. Now they, along with their sloth friends, must find a new home. But where? They loved their tree home and other trees are just not measuring up. A bird suggests the great tree south of the river. As they make their journey to find a new home, they find adventure, friends, and enemies. They will go where their feet lead and hope for a new home.
Graphic novels have high reader appeal. Especially in the elementary grade levels. The set-up is excellent. The pictures are big and bright. The dialogue is simple, but enough to tell the story of these lovable sloths.
Peter and Ernesto are back! This time, their whole herd (or “bed.” A bed of sloths) is in for a big adventure! During a powerful hurricane, the sloths’ beloved tree is blown away! What are they to do? Brave, adventurous Ernesto leads them off to find a new great tree to call home. Along the way, they meet many other animals of the jungle. Peter keeps the group safe, while Ernesto leads the way. Once again, these two make a great team. Even with danger and missteps along the way, the sloths are certain they can find a new home.
I love these sloths and this series. They’re super adorable. This story focuses more on teamwork and it’s an excellent lesson. It teaches that different people have different talents, but combining those skills can lead to even greater results. I can’t wait to see more of Peter and Ernesto’s adventures. Thanks to NetGalley and First Second for the eARC.
I obtained this ARC for an honest review. So I loved the first Peter & Ernesto book, and this one was also cute but not quite as impressive. There is a lot more singing and the story goes very slowly, which is ironic considering it’s a story about sloths. I liked the story but I might not get the second one for my library. It’s definitely a good book to give to younger graphic novel readers who like animals.
I love Peter & Ernesto! They make such a great team ;-) In this second tale, our intrpid sloth friends lose their home to a hurricane and have to traverse the jungle to find another great tree to live in. Always enthusiastic Ernesto and practical Peter have to make multiple decisions along the way to stay safe and find their new home, so of course hilarity and adventure ensue!
Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for providing a review copy.
Another delightful installation of this graphic novel series for young readers. Peter and Ernesto are sloths with very different personalities, but both find themselves very useful when a hurricane blows down their home tree and they must find a new one. Great for fans of Bird and Squirrel or Narwhal and Jellyfish.
Cuuuuuute! And this time, with more sloths! And other animals, too. I love that Peter has learned how to channel his worrying into being the guy who thinks ahead to keep his troop of friends safe. And I love how Ernesto is still the bubbly personality who keeps everybody moving. They are, indeed, and good team.
It's another wild adventure for these two friends and this time they're joined by their whole clan as they go out to find a new home. Along the way they'll encounter lots of animals both friendly and unfriendly and some surprises as well!
Peter and Ernesto are just as funny in this book as the first! This time a hurricane decimates their tree and they have to find a new home with their friends. They overcome many unexpected obstacles and meet all sorts of animals along the way.
A fun travel adventure with Peter & Ernesto and a cavalcade of other jungle characters. I can't wait to read more about these two and their friends. A great book (series) for introducing graphic novels to children.
I aspire to Ernesto’s positivity, but I’m honestly the worry-wart Peter. Also, this graphic novel was even funnier than the first one. I laughed out loud several times. Who knew sloths could have such grand adventures?
