** ### The Sentience Wars may be won, but the battle is not over... ** The Sentience Wars in Sol have come to an end. In the wake of war, refugees still flee to nearby stars, but there are sinister forces at work in Alpha Centauri who would turn their plight into profit. None of this is apparent to an easygoing, self assured pilot-for-hire named Jason Andrews. Recently arrived from Proxima Centauri to visit his sister, he is sucked into a covert operation by a brother-in-law who is not who he seems. But then again, neither is Jason.... But the enemy they face has grown more powerful than any had expected, and the fate of the star systems' humans and AIs are at stake. Jason must engage in an all-out bid to save a world he's just getting to know, in a war he only just learned about. **
Lisa has a diverse career background, having spent more than a decade working in radiation physics, and twice that as a director of film and video.
An avid pilot and photographer, Richman can often be found flying a Piper Cherokee or photographing Deep Sky Objects (DSOs) late at night.

The AI's are very cool. The Ai's have been some of the best parts of all the books in the series. The other characters are OK but the main character is really authentic. I wish that Alpha Centauri managed to find at least one Chinese named colonist but it wasn't to be. Unfortunately, all named characters have all English names (heavy sigh).
The political background is nothing special. It's a reflection of the current news background, where the rich and powerful trade places in a weird kabuki play that supposedly makes a difference in the lives of the citizenry. The concept of the ring, its construction and detail are awesome. The FGT made a big impression with this construct and it creates a fantastic backdrop for the story.
I was surprised that AI's who fought in the Sentience Wars are so easily fooled. Put that computing power to work, modeling scenarios and developing alternative responses. They didn't and it was a good springboard to a good story. I'll be reading next volume.
Cooper writes wonderful characters, especially bringing his strong females front and center. In this series, however, he gives us background on some of his males. Jason Andrews is hiding the fact that he is an L2 human, unaugmented, but with tremendous attributes. He's kind of a rascal, hiding most of his skills, pretending to be a neer-do-well. He is recruited to find and rescue a ship full of AIs that have been captured by a criminal cartel. The mission is successful, but seventeen of the AIs are missing, already sold into slavery. Jason will be part of an operation to find and rescue those seventeen.
As I've said before, I'm not much for all the battles and tactics, but I really enjoyed reading Jason's back story, and looking forward to the next book in the series.
I’ll admit I had reservations coming in to Alpha Centauri. Between the different co-author and the completely new cast of characters, how was it going to compare to the excellent Lyssa series.
Thankfully, those misgivings were misplaced. Once the action starts, it doesn’t let up. And I think Jason Andrews could give a Weaponborn a run for their money. And the actual plot? Well I went from the start of chapter 2 to finished in a single night. It’s that good. (Who needs sleep, right?)
Alpha Centauri is an excellent addition to the Aeon 14 saga. And well worth the read. Highly recommended.
Ever wondered how such stunning characters started the Intrepid journey. Well 2 main characters show how they came together and with a unique perspective dream of a free world away from Sol where AI and Human alike can live in peace.. This has a unique flair as we see the origin of the tech we have rwad about and how two great minds came to be so piviotal in the future and such a main part of history. Cooper is as usual great but the surprising part is how well this story fits into the Aeon 14 universe and the surprising talents of Lisa Richman
What I have come to really love that Michael Cooper and the other authors (in this case Lisa Richman) are diversifying the Aeon 14 series with sub-series detailing the backstories of important characters and concurrent storylines to give us the broadest possible vision of this universe possible!
Learning about Jason Andrews' and Terrance Enfield's lives prior to joining the Intrepid's mission is proving to be well worth the time spent reading!
A good read, certainly thus far haven't found a book I haven't enjoyed in the Aeon14 universe. This one has a good frontier sort of feel to it, with Alpha Centauri being relatively recently colonised, compared to what the Sol system is like. We get to see learn more of Jason Andrews' and Terrance Enfield's history here, and see it is quite an interesting history indeed. The story is good, keeps you well engaged while introducing good situations for the protagonists to be tested, and for them to grow.
The Enfield Genesis series has the perfect co-author for a story that is founded on aeronautics. I enjoyed this story so much! It did not take more than three chapters to care about these people. As with all the Aeon 14 books; Alpha Centauri pulls you in and gives you villains and heroes. It’s quick and tense and fun, and hooray for the good guys! You are going to love the story and maybe, like I did, dive right into book 2, it’s the coolest ride across a planetary sky, ever! Enjoy the read-
I picked up the book because the premise seemed interesting and I was dragged along at light speed for the adventure that unfolded. Such a fun, light-hearted read that manages to slide in some interesting questions about what we consider a “person” to be and how easy it is to be “othered” when evil, corporate greed steps in. I look forward to the next chapter of the adventure.
It is strange reading about children well adults of characters you read about when they were kids. Can’t wait to continue the adventure with Jason, Tobi, Tobias and company!!
Lisa knocked this out of the park. Cooper has teamed up with a group of fantastic writers , editors and contributors. I thourghly enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next in the series.
I loved this book! Jason and Calista make for a great pairing, along with Tobi and Tobias. It has all the excitement of the other Aeon 14 books, with the personal touch of Ms Richman.
Hard for me to judge, as this book is part of an existing set of series all revolving around the same universe. It took me too long to figure out who was who and what was going on. Once I got into it, I enjoyed it. I think people who've read some or all of the other books will enjoy. it.
I love this story and its wonderful characters. I look forward to reading the next book is this series. It's an awesome action packed space adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat to the end.
The blurb sounded interesting. I read to 7%. Milder foul language distracted my reading until I hit the F bomb. No thank you. It might be interesting, but I just don't like that in my entertainment.
Loved this book! It sucked me right in to the story. Ready to start the next book!
Love the whole Aeon 14 series. This one got me hooked within the first chapter. I am ready to start reading the next two books in this series. Great fun and a great read.
Love everything I have read of this universe. Great characters, fast paced action and story lines that leave you wanting more. I thank the authors for entertaining me with this amazing journey. Keep it coming.
I felt, it got off to a slow start. But as with all of the aeon 14 world, I was not disappointed. It's great, getting to know the back stories of the many characters. Well done guys. I am already reading book 2 and can't wait to see what unfolds.
Base jumping, planet diving and fighter battles. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure I look forward to more from this series 😁
Wonderfully complex plot, interesting characters (both human and AI), and lots of exciting action. Excellent stand alone book and excellent beginning of a new story arc!
Yet another good read in the Aeon 14 series of books, it gives us a nice look at where some of the other players in this series started from. Looking forward to reading book 2.
It's great to see what put the characters we know so well on their paths that will eventually see them end up on the Intrepid. Another great start into a new series. Can't wait for the next book!
Definitely gives you a different perspective on two very important characters that we have come to love. It also explains why they are so dang close in the original saga
