Charles Bingley is not what he seems to be. The story also features evil officers, baffled gentlemen, young ladies of marriageable age, and one multi-purpose tree.
"(What they do!) (They smile in your face) All the time they want to take your place The back stabbers (back stabbers)" Back Stabbers -The O'Jays
This is just a brilliant, but tragic short story. Following the Netherfield Ball Darcy learns that Bingley isn't what he seems... nor is the Colonel and it will seem as if a woman can fly. The 5 chapter book includes discussions of violence and a coerced marriage scenario.

This was delightfully different. It was short, at 5-chapters, with a plot completely outside the box from canon as Darcy and his eldest cousin, the Viscount, deal with a trifecta of evil. Wickham [a given], Bingley [a surprise], and then a wicked Colonel [what a shock]. OMG! Some may not like that… but it was interesting. Even Jane’s behavior became suspect. Not exactly the NSNJ [not-so-nice-Jane] trope, but she came pretty close.
Our dear Colonel: “There is poison in the fang of the serpent, in the mouth of the fly and in the sting of a scorpion; but the wicked man is saturated with it.” –Chanakya
For this man to breach the cousin/brother relationship with Darcy was beyond the pale. Normally, I don’t like reading stories of an evil Colonel; however, this one was well done. I liked the way it was handled and I liked the outcome of his actions and the actions of his father the Earl. What on earth was his purpose? The only thing that could have made the Colonel do this egregious act would be the line of succession, power, and fortune. His brother Henry Fitzwilliam was to marry Lady Constance and possibly produce an heir. For the others… it was the lure of money and position.
Bingley: “All things truly wicked start from innocence.” –Ernest Hemingway
Truly a weak man… easily led… and in this case, by the wrong cousin. Instead of being led by Darcy, he was led by the evil Colonel in his machinations against his friend and brother, Viscount Jeffreys. Bingley was promised Georgiana and Pemberley and all its wealth. I only had one question… did Bingley think he could trust the Colonel? I mean… what would stop the Colonel from doing him in and marrying Georgiana himself? He would have secured Pemberley with its wealth and still have the earldom besides? It would be entirely possible.
There was a bit of lover’s angst as we dealt with Elizabeth dealing with a forced marriage scenario [FMS]. We also had her elder sister Jane’s broken heart and disappointed hopes. I enjoyed Darcy’s hard work to gain the affection of Elizabeth. He was amazing.
The comeuppance for each of the villains was unique and specially selected for them. Lady Catherine was a surprise. I liked her.

In this short story Darcy and his oldest cousin, the Viscount are betrayed during a walk in the woods by Bingley and the colonel with their hired assassin, Wickham. None are aware that in the branches above the scene sits Elizabeth who has taken a book to a favorite spot from her childhood. She needs to recover from the repercussions from her denial of Mr. Collins' offer of marriage. When Bingley and the colonel leave so as to establish alibis for themselves before Wickham carries out his foul deed, Elizabeth knocks him out when she jumps upon him from 10 above. She also injures her foot in doing so.
While trying to take Wickham back to face local justice the villain escapes. Then when the viscount and Darcy take Elizabeth back to Longbourn it seems that not only has Wickham escapes but he has spread the tale that Darcy and Elizabeth were seen in the woods meeting clandestinely. Mrs. Bennet is wailing about how they are ruined.
Darcy and the viscount hear the ruckus and Darcy steps forth and offers his hand. Yes, Elizabeth soon comes to realize, even as her father and Darcy give her an option to live with the disgrace, that she will accept his offer. Seeing as how she has been so wrong about Wickham and Bingley and the mannerly way Darcy has acted since the rescue, she just might find that Darcy is also not what she thought with her initial impressions of the man.
This short story of only five chapters does deal with the villains but also gives us a brief description of the warming relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. Love does come.
This Pride and Prejudice variation features an evil Bingley! It was quite a shocker. The story is 5 chapters and manages to get everything in quite well. It was a fun easy read.
I've read this a few times now. More than recorded here. So much drama; So much wickedness indeed. Good thing that Lizzy climbs trees. Jane was surprisingly insightful.
