A beautifully edited, encyclopedic overview of Greek myths and legends. Short summaries, numerous cross-references, and especially numerous illustrations. The latter seem to me to be not always carefully chosen, and even a bit excessive, to the point of dominating the text. But definitely recommended as a first introduction.
This book provides a really comprehensive picture of the major myths and mythical characters of Ancient Greeks, and also helps to understand how these were incorporated into Roman mythology. I also loved the introduction that discussed the world of antiquity in very accessible terms, and the many illustrations. My only complaint is that English is quite bad in this book (the author is Dutch), plus typos are abundant. But overall it’s an excellent reference book.
This book took all my attention while reading it - with its easy-to-understand english and the coloured pictures the reader gets to know every single important personality of greek mythology. A big positive aspect is that the writer doesn't give you too much information - just the most important facts.
I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in Greek Mythology, or even if you're not interested in Greek mythology I still recommend that you rad this book. This book provides you with not only a timeline of Greek mythology through the ages, this encyclopedia also gives myths about and explains who the gods and goddesses are as well as what they do or what they are in charge of (they're domain). Oh and this book is not only about gods and goddesses, but it is also about how places like Greece and Rome got their names. I definitely enjoyed reading this book even though it may have been long. The author definitely makes the different sections all flow together to make this perfect encyclopedia for Greek mythology. I definitely give this book 5 stars.
i absolutely enjoyed reading this book full of wonderful information on the greek gods and the heroes and all the mythology surrounding them, from the children born from the god themselves, their mortal lovers, the monsters of mythology a very interesting book to read. for anyone looking to study up on the greek mythology.
