BOOK DESCRIPTION: A family of five takes, what they hope will be, a relaxing vacation to a forest retreat. They hope to do all the quintessential camp things -- sit around a roaring fire, eat s’mores, go kayaking, and just generally come together as a family in a much-needed bonding experience. But things go haywire when a dark and hooded figure begins to terrorize them from the woods and, rather than come together as one to save each other, this nemesis slowly turns the family against each other, ripping them apart at the seams.
MY REVIEW: Once again, Evan Bond has written a gripping tale; one that snatches you by the collar right from the first paragraph and doesn’t let go until its shocking ending.
This is a short novella, around 85 pages, but it’s a wild 85 pages. It’s fast-paced, full of suspense, mystery, and family drama. I’ve often felt like my family is too much to deal with, but after reading this, I’ve not *nothing* to complain about!
I’ve become a huge fan of Bond’s writing and always look forward to his new releases. If you haven’t read anything of his yet, let this be your first.
This almost-100-page-nail-biter-of-a-novella had so many twists and turns; such a fast-paced psychological thriller. This simple family vacation getaway quickly turned into a nightmare. My mind was working overtime as I tried to figure out the mystery of what was happening. Was it something supernatural? Was it a psychotic break in one of the five? Was it a spirit? Ghost? Was it a masked madman preying on them like animals? You’ll have to read to find out the chilling ending. Nothing is as it seems. Huge high-five for the tale from the legendary mind of Evan Bond. I look forward to reading some of his other books very soon like Death Can Wait and his Ethan McCormick series To the Wolves and Sins of the Mother.
Do we ever really know the people close to us? From the first page to the last everything keeps changing. What's real and what's not? Would recommend this for anyone who loves a great mystery.
What started out as a nice, normal family vacation quickly turned manic! I was quickly enthralled with this book and kept reading on to try to figure out the ruthless menace to the family. But I never seen what lurked around in the mind of author, Evan Bond, as my imagination could not envision his quick-witted style of writing! The suspense in this story made it a thrilling, quick-read and I will be looking forward to the next Book by Bond!
