I've always had a soft spot for the Phantom since my childhood - being from New Zealand, he was the only superhero comic you could get on the newsstands. all other superheroes were in speciality comic shops in the city and I lived in the burbs.

As an adult, I have gotten back into the Phantom - but I've now realised the very concept of the character is racist/colonialist to the core. Most ways you could revamp the character so he isn't so, he wouldn't be the Phantom anymore.

so when I read this story, of the white male Phantom 2040 asserting his dominance over a native African woman claiming to be the Phantom, when the Phantom hasn't even been in Bengalla for decades, I was just like... wow this is problematic as fuck. This story is about the victory of white male supremacy.
