This is the last volume of the life of Lewis Eliot, which takes us into the realms of politics, a murder case and his relationship with his son. As in the other volumes, Snow examines his characters as they wrestle with moral choices, power, fame and the quality of their relationships. In the end, Eliot examines his life and seems to reach a certain tranquility. This is a monumental work.
