I love this series so much but I'm disappointed a story about unconventional paths to success and how academics aren't everything is now shoving it's protagonist back on the college track.

Hachiken and Mikage have had a slowly blossoming romance from the beginning, and in this volume they finally confess their love for each other! But other concerns in their lives keep interrupting their romance as Mikage takes her college entrance exams, and Hachiken finalizes his business plans for his company.

I loved seeing these two finally get together! Their relationship is so sweet and pure. Every scene between them is so lovely and adorable!

I had thought, for some reason, that this was the last volume, but it looks like there's one more coming up. I'm fine with that, because I was wondering how everything would get wrapped up in just one book. In this volume, Hachiken's pizza business is successful, but not successful enough to turn a profit, a valuable and realistic lesson in business. Mikage takes her entrance exam, which includes a tough interview portion that gives her character a real chance to shine. And Hachiken finally asks out Mikage, much to her father's consternation. All of this is great, but I'm ambivalent about the story shoving Hachiken towards going to college after all. He'd been so happy getting away from academics, and I really wanted to see his business plan in full swing. There's a decent explanation for why he might end up in college, but I'm still just not sure how I feel about it. I'm excited to read the last volume, so I can see all of this wrapped up, hopefully with the final chapter being fast-forwarded ten years or so to show how everybody has gotten on.

As autumn rolls into fall, Yuugo Hachiken prepares for his start-up business' first high-profile sales opportunity. But it is hard to stay focused as he worries about his love interest Aki Mikage and her exams and interview to get into her dream college -- because if she gets in, he has resolved to ask her out.

The fun and hijinks continue in my favorite agricultural high school rom-com. But not for long, as it all comes to an end next volume. (sobs)

Mikage is all set up to take her college entrance exam and have her interview.
Hachiken is prepared for his first business venture selling pizza at the Ban'ei racetrack.
Komaba takes advantage of some networking and gets Nishikawa to set him up a computer and is being tutored by Hachiken's older brother.
Nishikawa is headed off to college in Tokyo once he graduates high school.
Yoshino is trying to find an internship involving cheese.
Tamako is helping Hachiken with accounting and business plans and hoping to finally convince prospective investors.
Aikawa is trying to get into veterinary school.
And Hachiken's older brother has a baby on the way!

Warning: This spoiler is a MAJOR spoiler.

Everyone is striking out and planning for the future (including one more big decision before the final volume). They grow up so fast. But, that doesn't mean we don't have time to make butter!

This series has 15 volumes.

Hachiken and Mikage are gearing up for November 30 when Hachiken will sell his company's pizzas at the race track for the first time and Mikage is taking her university entrance exams. Will Hachiken survive the stress?

A very satisfying conclusion to Hachiken and Mikage's high school careers. I like the direction the author took Hachiken's goals after high school. These books do a good job of making everyday events humorous but also relatable. Recommended to those who like contemporary fiction school stories or just humorous manga.

Notes on content: 6 minor swear words. No sexual content (peers are pressuring Hachiken and Mikage but they state that they are having a chaste relationship). No violence. Farm animals being prepped for food production is a main topic.

I can’t believe there is only one more volume left! I am so up for a college years sequel! I am out of superlatives to describe the work of Hiromu Arakawa sensei and her team of capable assistants. Likewise, I don’t think western readers are losing any of the humor, wit, and joy that abound in each volume with the expert translations from Amanda Haley. We get the big confession from Hachiken this volume and nothing goes as planned (then or after). Mikage tackles her collegiate entrance exams. And, we learn why Komaba has been working so hard. So many feels... so many laughs... and oh, so good!

(Same review and thoughts as vol.12)

Snippets of the gang's 2nd and 3rd year. Compared to the whopping 10 volumes for Hachiken's freshman year. His 2nd year is rushed and his 3rd year extremely quickened. Followed by snapshots of his life and the rest of his friends after school.

And I feel the story telling went down hill for it. While there are still moments and comedic punchlines that reminded me of how I much I enjoyed this series. It's not the same. Everything feels so crammed and you are getting info dumped about everything to get a move on.

The ending actually was so weak. It didn't go out with a bang or fond melancholic memories. It's suddenly you are there! It's done!

Silver Spoon (the company) is shaping up but it looks like Hachiken might have to go to college after all...and we finally get the moment we have been waiting for with Hachiken & Mikage!

Content Notes:

Swearing/Profanity: This volume was a little heavier on the profanity for some reason. 1 use of asshole, two uses of hell, 2 uses of ass, 4 instances of taking the Lord's name in vain, 3 uses of damn, 3 uses of dammit

Mikage sits for her college entrance exams (and if she gets in, Hachiken gets to ask her out!)

This volume feels more like home than the last one. Hachiken is out of school with an upset stomach from worrying about Mikage. She's praying for questions about horses but it turns out her personal experiences do help her during the dreaded interview.

This is a world where hard work matters and friends help friends. What's not to like?

Another favorite of mine, from shounen genre. Award-winning (rare) diamond that told story about agriculture and husbandry. This is the kind of book that I will always proudly show it off to narrow-minded people, that manga also has something like this. I reread this manga two months ago, and now I delightfully report to you guys that I still love it to bits. 😂

Of course, at the very last minute, Hachiken has to go to college …. I thought the mangaka was trying to show us different ways of achieving your dreams after high school… College isn’t the only way… ?

Anyway, if you were wondering about the romance, Hachiken and Aki get together in this volume…in their 3rd year… FINALLY. Lol

The comedy is on point here. Hachiken's dad and his imposing nature is always entertaining. Also, the character's growth is organic and you feel the joy of their accomplishments. One more volume to go and I had to move on it as soon as I was done.

This series just keeps getting better and better, and now I’ve learnt a lot more about pigs than I ever really wanted to know. The food is still the best part because it always looks incredible.
