About the author

I write comic books, graphic novels and novels. I'm a three time Eisner nominee, two time Glyph award winner, New York Times bestseller, a recipient of The Dick Giordano Humanitarian of the Year award, and have been in competition twice at Angoulême.

I've worked on Hellboy, Swamp Thing, & Conan the Barbarian; I co-wrote a graphic novel with Neil Young; I helped restart Valiant Entertainment; and I've done on-the-ground research in Uganda (2007), Iraq (2014), & South Sudan (2016), writting graphic novels about war and famine in those regions.

Goodnight Paradise came out in 2018 with long time co-creator Alberto Ponticelli and is a murder mystery set in the houseless population of Venice Beach, Ca.

My first novel (novella - it's only 100 pages) has dropped. It combines my love of slasher horror, Agatha Christie fair-play mysteries, construction sites, and bugs. It's called BROOD X. Buy it wherever trash genre books are sold!

Harbinger Wars is one of the best comic book events I've ever read. And this is hands-down the best (and probably least expensive) way to experience and appreciate it. It includes the entirety of both the Harbinger and Bloodshot series leading up to the crossover, and both titles tell one big interconnected story. It's a big book, but you get the story of the Bloodshot super soldier, Peter Stancheck and his super-powered Renegades, the psiot children being held by Project Rising Spirit, Toyo Harada's manipulation of them all, and how it all leads to an epic showdown between them all at the Bellagio Hotel in a deserted Las Vegas.

Great introduction to part of the Valiant universe. We get the backstory of Toyo Harada and how he became the most powerful psiot in the world. The origin of Bloodshot is also revealed.

The Renegades are introduced along with other groups and individuals who were part of the early years of the new Valiant universe. Writers Joshua Dysart and Duane Sweirczynski and various artists do a great job with dozens of characters and a pretty convoluted plot.

Since the storyline winds its way through over a dozen issues of two ongoing series, plus the four issues of the Harbinger War mini-series, there are some confusing moments as the two writers cover some of the same events through different viewpoints.

With the Harbinger War 2 event now taking place in the current Valiant line this is a great place to learn about the characters beforehand.

Easily one of the best Graphic Novels I have read in some time. Dense, well told and the action rarely lets up!
