Bindings is the third book in the Turning Pages series, set in a small-town used bookshop that fosters cats.
After Kris and Matt purchase old books at an estate auction for the O’Malleys, a mystery is born. Someone is desperate to get what the bookshop owners have in their possession—something worth a fortune. But what is it? Mack and Mavis O’Malley haven’t a clue as to what makes the books so valuable, or even which books from the auction they could be.
Darla, the record-shop owner, makes a startling discovery of her own, one that could change Kris’s life forever.
Will the O’Malleys uncover the truth before it‘s too late? And what changes are coming for Kris’s family?
Jenny Kalahar is the author of fifteen books and has been published in several anthologies, in literary journals, and in her humor column in Tails Magazine. She is the editor of Last Stanza Poetry Journal. She and Patrick previously owned bookshops in Michigan and Ohio, and now sell books via the internet. Jenny is the publisher for the Poetry Society of Indiana and the founder and leader of Last Stanza Poetry Association. She was nominated for the Indiana state Poet Laureate position, a Best of the Net, and twice for a Pushcart Prize in poetry. When not writing, reading, or working with old books, she loves expeditions through flea markets and playing piano and percussion.
This is slightly different to the previous two books - it is more of a consolidation of the relationships between all the characters. Although there are some new developments, it is more about the strengthened ties between everyone making it into a more cohesive family even if there are no blood ties. It's another summer and Mack has two auctions he wants to go to. As he goes to one, he leaves Kris and Matt at the other. Matt, being new to auctions, makes an outrageous bid for all the books. Which is accepted, ends to an argument and ends up with Kris in hospital. The an who argued with is later arrested for breaking into the bookstore. What on earth is there in the book boxes? Meanwhile Kris's parents want to adopt another boy, Tatyana moves back to Botswana, LP brings Darla's parents together and Kris start thinking about his dead parents. Whilst searching for pictures of them Darlaston finds that she might know something about them. Did they adopt the baby that her diner colleague was pregnant with? The search for the valuable item in the books continues. Will they find the item and is it really valuable? Is the diner girl Kris's biological mother. Why is Kris's adopted mother so tired? Will the new boy fit in?
Glad I found this series. Third one. Characters continue to grow and stories intertwine. Ready for four and five came out in March so more good news. Animals, art, books, babies, romance, teenage angst? What more can a reader want? Family drama as well. On to the next. Used book stores, wondrous finds revealed, adoptions, wood carvers, artists, antique dealers, glass art, music? Keeps going!
I love this series! It's full of drama, humor and real life lessons. There are times I've laughed out loud and times tears would roll down my cheeks. It's such a joy to read about these loving people and what their lives are like with each other and what each family goes through in life.
I love this wholesome, cute series! The characters are so adorable and loveable! I love how detailed the author is; I feel like I'm right there with them. It's like a modern day Mayberry and a Hallmark story all in one! Grab a cup of hot cocoa, your cozy blankie, and dive in!
I feel part of the family now and I am enjoying this storyline. Kris is an amazing young man, his parents and the other characters in the story are a joy to follow. I’m so happy for Quainty.
