Book one of The Naiad Chronicles quartet, Vision is a high-fantasy for teens and adults alike, featuring a comedic, light-humoured twist. As war threatens to break out between the elven clans, an even more sinister force is at work; the dragons, the source of all Naiad's magic, are disappearing. When a group of strange soldiers arrives from the north, the balance of nature begins to tilt and the clairvoyants are swathed in visions announcing the return of a potentially deadly foe - the Phoenix.
It's up to the half-bred elf Paolini and his enigmatic human companion Dustin, along with Dustin's adopted dragon Kiki, to find and solve the mystery of the diminishing dragons, and end up witnessing the recreation of a force the world had long since chosen to forget.
Elves, dragons and cats - all in one. How could I possibly resist?
The world is beautifully built, while enigmatic and while it takes a little while (well, it did for me anyway) to get into the story and start caring about the characters, once your 'involvement meter' reaches above that threshold you find yourself dragged into the story with hooks, claws and talons. Everyone has different favourite characters and for me, the most vivid, were the animals, who really lend a 'aww' factor to the whole story.
There's a fair dose of humour (sometimes subtle, sometimes not), plot-twists (what fantasy is complete without them?), heart-wrenching moments and by the time you put the book down (at 3AM in my case) you really, really want to know what happens next.
I really wouldn't mind getting my hands on my very own Inuki either - though with my luck, they'd probably sit on me, hehe.
I'd have given this five stars too, if it wasn't for the Word Gremlin (AKA auto-correct) which occasionally rears its head. Thankfully, it's not often and you'll probably be so involved in the story that they slip by without too much notice :)
All in all, a book that I thoroughly enjoyed and very much look forward to laying my paws on nb 2 in the series.
Can I just start by saying THIS BOOK GAVE ME LIFE! It greatly exceeded my expectations, and was a stunningly unique fantasy tale. While clearly in the fashion of high fantasy, this book had a touch of humor and joy that I haven't read in too many other high fantasy novels. And the characters and their interactions with one another were so perfect! Kuroi and his noble ridiculousness! Paolini and Abelie's adorable mother-and-son relationship! The budding romance between Paolini and Ivy! And how could I forget the darling creatures, Kiki the dragon and Lamb the cat- both of whom I love! The fantasy world built around these lovable characters was lush and beautiful, full of natural beauty and a mythic past. And while it was a fairly long book, I devoured it in a much shorter time than I anticipated. The last hundred pages or so had me completely hooked, and I couldn't stop reading till the book was finished! And now I desperately want more, more of the world of Naiad and the characters I have come to truly care about. My eternal thanks to this author for filling me with joy throughout this entire novel! I CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on the rest of this series!

This book was great. The first one was awesome. It fit together ok and it worked out. It is however overly fantastical. It is also self published which also means self edited so there are a lot of grammar and punctuation mistakes throughout the series. If you're not a graceful person in that respect, don't read it. You will be infuriated.
I can't believe how generous I'm being. This is so badly written. The use of passive verbs was so unnecessary. I am not opposed to the use of adverbs either - everything in moderation - but the author totally overdid it here. It got to the point where I struggled to follow the story because I was scanning for the next adverb. In the end,the bad writing reached a point where I got used to it. The story was cute and enjoyable, and I liked the characters. I can't see myself reading the next book though.
