I loved the Fablehaven series! I read them years ago and they look beautiful on my shelf to this day. I want to re-read them now after reading this book! I can't wait to get my hands on the actual book.

The illustrations are beautiful and let me tell you, I was taken back to the world just reading about all of the different creatures that I remembered as the book went over them. The book also talks about the different gadgets, potions, places, etc of the book.

If you have never read the Fablehaven series and you like books filled with monsters and all kinds of goodies, you must read them! It doesn't matter how old you are, they are so awesome and this book is too!

*I would like to thank NETGALLEY and SHADOW MOUNTAIN PUBLISHING for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.*

I loved this. The illustrations are amazing, and it has me so excited to get my hands on Dragonwatch!! My only qualm would be a lack of any new information of the artifacts, creatures, etc. that we already met in the series. This would be an awesome vague refresher if you need one before the next series starts coming out though!

This is such a beautiful book and a great edition to the Fablehaven books. The pictures are stunning and the book is well presented. I will say that there isn't anything really new in this.. most of the information is in the books, but it just looks so good, that it's worth having.

I can’t even tell you how incredibly surprised and excited I was to receive an email from Brandon Mull’s publicist offering Aaron and myself a free copy of Mull’s new novel The Caretaker’s Guide to Fablehaven. Brandon Mull is one of my favorite authors. He is incredibly imaginative, a wizard with words, and an inspiration. His series Fablehaven is one of my ultimate favorite fantasy series of all time. I’ve kept up with it since book 1 first came out. In Mull’s five book series he has managed to create an unique world hidden within our own. I’ve given the entire collection 5/5 (You can see my reviews on each book in the older post section of Husbandandhusband.net.) I absolutely cherish these books and will continue to reread them throughout my life. I’ve passed these books on to many of our friends, family members, and even some of my older teachers I still am in contact with. If you like adventure, fantasy, hordes of fairies, villains to remember, countless demons, and true heroism than Fablehaven is the series for you.

I received a digital copy of this title from the publisher via Netgalley.

Ten Second Synopsis:
An engaging encyclopaedia of the peoples, places and things of the world of Fablehaven, complete with eye-popping illustrations.

It’s really hard to describe how stunningly beautiful this book is without being able to give you the chance to flick through it. The book is made up of illustrations and descriptions of various people, places, artifacts and monsters that populate the world of which Fablehaven is a part. Some entries are enhanced with handwritten annotations from Seth and Kendra, and some have faux notes “stuck” over the top. The information is comprehensive and would take a good long while to wade through, cover-to-cover. This is the kind of book, though, that will have groups of kids flicking through together, exclaiming over their favourite entries and sharing knowledge about the series.

As well as being the perfect pick for established fans of the series, this would make a great teaser for those who haven’t read the books, but would like to get a feel for the world and its workings. I can certainly see this on a classroom bookshelf as a fought-over companion to a read-aloud of the series.

Won a free copy through Goodreads FirstReads! (After I had read the book)

Very nice illustrations throughout the book. Some of the entries were so short and lacking in any real information that they seem somewhat worthless, but there were some entries long and packed with neat details. I liked the creatures that I could not remembering hearing of, in mythology or otherwise, or that especially intrigued me, such as:

Peryton - Winged stag

Stingbulb - Plant that makes a clone of someone

Alcetaur - Moose centaur The mythological nation animal of Canada

Astrid - Man-owls

Overall, worth paging through, even if you weren't a big fan of the Fablehaven series.

What a clever book! It well reviews much of what went on throughout the original series and equally well introduces the (as of October 2015) upcoming series. I am very much excited to read the new series next year and become reemmersed into the wonderful world that Mr. Mull created.

The Caretaker's Guide to Fablehaven is a classic take on the genre of fantasy bestiaries, complete with toned pages to resemble old paper and tons of beautiful, full-color art.

The guide also includes scattered handwritten notes by the main characters from the Sorenson family. The notes were on character, with Kendra and Seth's adding humor and Patton and Grandpa Sorenson's notes adding depth. (Seth's input was irritating, as usual.)

Even if you haven't read Fablehaven, the book is fun to casually browse if only for the art. However, if you haven’t read the Fablehaven series and would like to avoid spoilers, DO NOT read the characters' notes! Besides that, there are still some light spoilers regarding the locations of the magical preserves, and the existence of some creatures that appear in later books.

In short, it didn’t add anything I hadn’t seen before in this type of art book, but it didn’t disappoint either.

p.s. The map at the end is grossly incorrect about the location of Tibet.

Basically an encyclopedia-type book with all the info about the creatures, demons, dragons, locations, and wizards in the Fablehaven and Dragonwatch books. The pictures are the best part, and the notations from Seth and Kendra added throughout.

Great companion guide to the Fablehaven series! Very helpful, all the entries are interesting, but you can find most of that information just by reading the books - what's unique and great about this guide is the visual aspect of it: the illustrations are great! This is more Brandon Dorman's (illustrator) book than it is Brandon Mull's (Author). Just kidding, but still, to see the creatures, places, and magical items brought to life (and in excellent artistic style and skill too!) and to be able to see what it looks like outside your own imagination is awesome. Hugo looked just like I imagined him, lol. And the added bonus of the handwritten notes from Seth, Kendra, Newel, Doren, Grandpa, and even Patton in the margins are funny and an awesome bit of fan service.

But beware if you have never read the WHOLE series at least once through before reading this! Because it will spoil stuff in future books if you read it while on book 1, 2, or 3. This guide has stuff from all the books - creatures, places, items that don't come till later and sometimes events, or bits of storylines that are in the later books like 4 and 5, especially in the notes from the characters.

5/5

I've read all of the Fablehaven books so I was very excited to win The Caretaker's Guide to Fablehaven in a giveaway hosted by www.manoflabook.com.
First of all - its a nice, big, glossy hardcover book. It even has one of those fancy red ribbon build in bookmarks. Second, is that it is a thorough and wonderfully illustrated field guide.
The book starts off with an introduction to the reader who is a presumed caretaker or apprentice caretaker of Fablehaven. Then it is split up into 6 sections. Those sections are Artifacts & Items, Creatures, Demons, Dragons, Locations and Wizards. In each section there are elaborate sketches and drawings along with descriptions of all the magical objects, entities and places that are mentioned in the books. What makes this book even more fun is that it has written in tips and comments from Seth and Kendra Sorenson. It also contains quotes from The Sphinx, Stan Sorenson, Patton, Coulter, Graulas and others from the series.
I definitely feel like I'm ready to be a Fablehaven Caretaker now that I've read this guide. Hopefully there will be a day in the near future when I will get the chance!

I read the Fablehaven series before I started blogging, and I loved it. It was so much fun and I am looking forward to the time when Miss K is old enough for me to read them with her.

The Caretaker's Guide to Fablehaven is a companion book to the Fablehaven series. It explores the various creatures, magical items, and locations found in the books and gives a short explanation for each. Of course, Brandon Dorman's illustrations are all throughout this book as well and give a wonderful visual to many of the creatures and places that were left up to the reader's imagination before.

Miss K has read this book twice already. She pored over the pages for days on end, telling me all about the magical objects, places, and creatures she learned about. She hasn't read the Fablehaven series yet, but she's eagerly awaiting her opportunity.

You don't need to have read the Fablehaven series to enjoy this book, but you will enjoy it more if you have.

Fablehaven has always been one of my favorite series. It is special and so unique in it's characters and the story line. I have found that fans of all ages love Fablehaven and this book will make all Fablehaven fans scream with delight! It was so exciting to be able to review an early e-copy of The Caretakers Guide to Fablehaven. This book is absolutely beautiful! It showcases the amazing talents of illustrator Brandon Dorman, who brings to life in colorful drawings and sketches all of the characters and creatures found in the Fablehaven series. There are many descriptions and notes from the characters, spilling details from the series for those who've never read them and for those of us who need to revisit them again.

My family is such a huge fan of Brandon Mull's books, but especially this series. We will make sure that this book is a part of our already huge collection of Mull's work. With a new series of Fablehaven books coming out next year (YAY!), this guide will get you pumped up for the continuation of the world of Fablehaven.

Have you read the Fablehaven books? Have any of your children? This book is a FANTASTIC addition to the Fablehaven series!
First off, I loved the series. I loved the magic and the creatures and the humans. And I really loved the lessons Kendra and Seth learned as they helped their Grandpa take care of the magical creatures and places in Fablehaven.
Second, this new book is fun! Full of facts about the magical reserves and the creatures. The pictures in this book are awesome! I received an ebook for a fair and honest review and the pictures were excellent. I can't wait to get my hands on the actual book!
Third! Brandon is writing another series based on this trilogy! There are clues in this book about it.

Thank you Brandon Mull and Brandon Dorman for continuing to spark your readers imaginations!
The Caretakers Guide to Fablehaven comes out the middle of October.

Initially, the cover of this book caught my eye. I'd never read the Fablehaven series, which this book is a companion to, but it made me want to learn more about the series. Inside, the book is filled with awesome drawings and amusing little notes "left" by the MC's of the series. It's divided into sections such as "Creatures", "Dragons", and "Artifacts & Items" just to name a few. It took me almost a couple of months to read and review this book because I was so impressed by it, I wanted to begin reading the actual series before I finished the companion book. I'm now on book 2, and I can see this as a handy book to come back to skim over and reread certain passages as needed. This is everything I could want from a companion book!

This book is so much fun. I enjoyed the trip down Fablehaven memory lane. Brandon Dorman's illustrations were perfect and Brandon's writings were fun and creative, just like this amazing series. I loved the "handwritten" notes from Seth and Kendra, and other characters, even Newell contributed his advice. Reading the pages I was taken back to when I first discovered this series, and was reminded how much I loved it. I need to read the books again, and very soon. Fablehaven is a long-time favorite series of mine and always will be.
FTC FYI: I received a PDF copy in exchange for an honest review.

Normally I would only have good things to say about books like The Caretaker's Guide to Fablehaven. And it is great in a lot of ways, with some fantastic illustrations from Brandon Dorman. Yet my mind couldn't get past the logistics of this book—they don't make sense. Some of the information is outdated, applicable to Fablehaven before the events of the series. Yet other information is only true after the events have happened. The mix of old and new information makes it impossible to understand the logical existence of this book in the series given how it contradicts the series' events.

This book is beautifully illustrated! The quality is excellent. This book is a companion to the Fablehaven books. It can be looked at and enjoyed by children who love to see magical creatures, artifacts, etc. (Both the good and the bad). There are many references to the books, if you haven't read them yet... you should!

This book was a great excuse to revisit the world of Fablehaven. I also got a chance to enjoy Brandon Dorman's fantastic illustrations. Even though this book is just over 100 pages and primarily consisting of illustrations and small blurbs, I patiently and methodically read it and stretched it out over a week and a half span.

I am waiting for Brandon Mull to finish the 3rd Dragonwatch book so I can tear through those the same way I did the Fablehaven series.

Long live Newel and Doren!!

I loved the art and this was a great reference to some of the information from the books, which is handy if you haven't read Fablehaven for a while and decide to just jump into Dragonwatch. My only complaint is that there were a few pictures that the creator decided not to put in and just put a "visit my website to see this exclusive picture" which I thought was totally uncalled for, especially for his fans that paid for the book and don't have Internet.

Fablehaven has a soft spot in my heart. This is the series that got me into reading as a kid. It was very fun to get back into the world of Fablehaven. I love more world building books like this where it goes into the different creatures, demons, dragons, potions, and other elements in the original series. This book also contains a lot of amazing imagery! Such a fun short read to get back into Fablehaven! 4.25 ⭐️

This was a really fun companion to the main series. A bit simplistic for an adult to read, but to be fair, the series is more aimed at preteens and teens as a whole. If you're in that demographic or getting it for someone who is, it gives some fun explanations and detail on the creatures and being you meet in the series.

This has pictures of the magical creatures that you read about in the Fablehaven books. I enjoyed seeing the artists depiction of things to see if it was the same as I imagined it when I read the stories.
