Crime happens, even in small towns like North Bend, but when Amber Monroe and her fellow detectives from the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office are called to the home of a retired forensic psychiatrist, they find a macabre murder scene that would rival any Halloween horror film.
When a local EMT and a former deputy go missing that same week, law enforcement conclude there has to be a link between the three cases. With no clues to guide them, the detectives are stumped until they begin a search through old court files.
New information emerges that could break the case wide open, but when the names on the perpetrator’s kill list are revealed, apprehending him is all that matters. His intentions have become more than personal and crystal clear. Washburn County’s finest may be next, and they don’t have the luxury of time on their side.
Note: All Amber Monroe books are standalone stories but since characters carry over, they are best read in chronological order.
Series One - Amber Monroe Crime Thriller Series #1 Greed #2 Avenged
The Amber Monroe Crime Thriller Series follows on the heels of the conclusion of Malice, Book 5 in the Agent Jade Monroe FBI Thriller Series.
C.M. Sutter was born in San Jose, California and split time between the sunny California coast and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a senior in high school, she chose Wisconsin as her permanent address. After many years in the Badger State, she decided on a warmer year-round climate to call home and moved south. Years of progression took her from working in large companies, to twelve years as a massage therapist, and finally, owning a corporation. She has been self-employed for over twenty years. Ms. Sutter has been writing and self-publishing since 2014 with eleven titles published in a different genre. Because of her deep interest in crime and thriller novels, she took up writing in the police procedural/crime thriller genre in 2016.
It was ok. Love Jade & Jack scenes. Amber not so much even though this book is dedicated to her point of view. I still don't like her & she is still looking for an easy way to solve every case, instead of relying on cop work, no matter how tedious it is. While she may have proven she may have a brain, a dedicated cop I am not sure. She can be so easily distracted & quick to wanting to break the rules to complete her task so she can move onto the next phase. Maybe having a father & a sister so good at their job has spoiled Amber into believing she can solve cases as quick as they can even though she has no real experience. Also she didn't actually stop & catch her killer. She was almost killed by him instead. She may have kept her phone on to keep her colleagues in the loop but she didn't actually stop him. Cops catch their killer not pass out after a few hits. She has a way to go before she can be a cop as good as her father & sister, or any experience cop. Her over confidence pisses me off.

Are you kidding me.....omgsh what a ride. I talked about this book with my customers it's that good. Don't even want to think about the many psychopaths that are in the world and do things like this. It's almost to scary to think about. From the first few pages to the very last pages it was a complete page turner. I thought the 1st book was good, check this was a hit out of the park. I won't give details because it's your turn to read it and pass along. Just make sure you are careful about the kind of trial case you serve on next.
I liked this story it was a good premise that the psycho who framed his brother then tries to avenge the loss of his trust fund, it's almost comical but in a black comedy way. The process of finding him was interesting but I could not see why the records office needed the case file number to produce the document, surely they could have provided all the digital records between the two dates and done a search for any of the victims names ? That would have probably speeded the job up and robbed the suspense a bit though.
This isn't a mystery, but rather it shows how police, even in a small town, work to capture a criminal. One small detail, that I would suggest to the author, is to make the Trust payments to the criminal higher. The payment is a critical part of the story and seems too low, to create the rage, that leads to a murder spree. But, then again I am not a criminal, so I might be wrong. Good book overall and is worth the read.
It was a descent read. I prefer the Jade Monroe FBI series.
I think trying to write about two sisters in the same job and same department at different times has turned into a more difficult chore than the author may have thought. I wish she had continued on with Jade and her job with the FBI.
I liked that I had not read anything like this story. I did not like that the characters were not defined enough in the beginning, such as Jade who was in and out of the story as well as the connections between the other characters. Otherwise I would have given it a 5.
This is a tiresome story about a man vent on vengeance after his incarcerated brother commits suicide in prison. He framed the mentally challenged brother for murder and has a list of witnesses to kill.
This was a boring read. The dialogue is clunky, the cops are dopes. The animal cruelty story line is poorly executed. Flimsy story, lacking suspense.
I WOULD'NT CALL THIS A THRILLER MORE POLICE PROCEDUAL. I DID'NT CARE FOR THE WRITING STYLE, IT SEEMS TO SKIP IN SPOTS AND ITS HARD TO KNOW WHO IS SPEAKING AT TIMES OR WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON. NOT A PULSE POUNDING THRILLER MORE LACK LUSTRE AND KINDA DULL, WITH A HO-HUM KILLER. THIS WAS AN AMBER MONROE SERIES, I'VE READ HER SISTER JADE MONROE, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. ;<
This was a good book in the Amber Monroe series. There were a few different things going on, which makes this a quick and interesting read. Amber and the team are investigating a string of murders. You know the killer as the other part of the story is him committing the murders. This really keeps you reading to find out what is going to happen.
As a second outing as the "main character" for Amber this was another fast paced thriller. The "doh" moments when the officers actually meet the baddies and not realise are a little frustrating but that adds to the tension.
Another really good book in the Amber Monroe series. A bit of a stretch at times, but still a good read. I will probably keep reading the series along with other book s by the author.
I love Ms. Sutter's books. Even though you know from the start "who did it" it was still a great story, kinda gory in spots, but that's what you want in a thriller! I'm to the next one!
YES, finally a good murder mystery to go to sleep with. Was about to give up. I truly enjoy good mysteries. Hope I can find another one to follow up with. Have read & enjoyed Sutter before, lost track of her. Enjoy Amber also. Looking for another one .😈😎🤔 Tweety🐦🐦
Its not a book you can read quickly. Probably only a couple chapters at a time because its so detailed. The plot doesn't move fast. But it is well written so you stay with it.
Good story. Especially liked the ending. I liked how smoothly it moves between people and chapters. I stayed up late to finish the final chapter. There was a lot of blood and gore very detailed.
I am really liking this author and this series. I love a good crime story that isn't long and drawn out. The characters are great and the crimes they are tasked to solve are well thought out by the author. I have been having a hard time putting my Kindle down.
Another good read in this series. I just can't day enough about this author's detail in making her stories seem real. Now on to her next one in the series.
That was a pretty good book. The characters were pretty good in their roles. The plot was ok. But I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more from this author.
Wow what a book! Great read from first to last page and plenty of twists in between. I guess you can tell I loved this book, the story was great, plenty of twists and great characters. Highly recommend.
