Captain John Duggan and his crew are stranded deep in hostile terrritory. Their spaceship, the ESS Crimson is damaged beyond repair. Enemy warships hunt them, eager to locate the vessel which has caused so much damage to their military. All seems lost. Duggan is not a man to go down without a fight. Determined to take matters into his own hands, he leads his squad across the surface of an inhospitable planet in order to make a raid upon an enemy base. Nothing worth having comes easy – a single error will result in failure and the deaths of his soldiers, as well as denying humanity the greatest of gifts. Duggan has made a promise to get his squad home and there’s only one way for him to succeed. The Valpian awaits. Guns of the Valpian is a science fiction adventure and the sixth book in the Survival Wars series.
Anthony James spent his youth reading what might now be called classic sci-fi and fantasy books. These days, he spends time in his study with the door locked against rampant and ferocious toddlers, writing books of his own.
That's the third person stuff out of the way.
For anyone who's read any of my books, you'll know that I write action science fiction that pulls no punches and which doesn't cram the good stuff into the last couple of chapters. The action starts early and it doesn't let up. I also take care to mix in plenty of humanity. The characters I write are all distinctly believable, often facing uncaring enemies and overwhelming odds. When they win, it's because they did their best.
Go on. Punch an alien today. Better yet, check out my series of books, each one filled with action, technology, warfare, aliens and against-the-odds survival. Lots of kick-back-and-enjoy weekend or evening reading.
This series is so enjoyable even as the plot hits impossibility after impossibility. Author James has a deft hand with characters and has created a world that feels real and immediate.
The plot has kept us on edge as our protagonists attempt to sort things out and remain in control so far from their home. While it was expected they would eventually work things out, it was a relief to have it finally happen. A positive ending to this episode, and a calm respite before the next begins.
This was a very good read and I could hardly put it down. There was plenty of action both on the planets and in space .The one thing they need to figure out is how to deal with the enemy ship that can drain all the power out of ships, kind of hard to fight with no power to your weapons.
Superb writing again, edge of the seat action all the way from start to finish. The story gets more exciting with every new book just want to get into the next one straight away.
Book 6 had errors throughout. The overall plot was well done and interesting. The main character has declined in almost being naive in what he does. I do look forward to book 7, but hope the main character is better written.
A few more plot holes than normal, and a few more.... unbelievable things in this book, but overall still a great book. On to the last book... it'll be sad to see them end.
Rekindled my interest in the series. A mix of space and planet borne action. Could not wait to finish book. End was a bit of an anticlimax. You will care about the characters.
