“We don’t want to change you to suit us, Robert. We want you because of who you already are.”
A very promising start to what I did not expect to be one. I have not read the series in which the three main characters were previously introduced - and I'm not sure I have the patience just yet to read a 6+ book series dedicated to only a couple quite yet - but one of my personal goals of 2024 is to read more MMM romances. 👍🏻 I know polyamory is not for everyone; but I am curious to see how different authors tackle the emotional connection between more than two people, that does not solely rely on physical intimacy. Plus, apart from solid editing, well-written and gripping dialogue, and seamless alternations between the three perspectives, which satisfied the finicky reader in me, Ella Frank provided enough insight into their existing personalities as well as background to their history with various hints/flashbacks throughout that made invested in their unique relationship to turn for more.
A part of me believed like Eliot - the loyal best friend who encouraged Robbie to throw normalcy and reason out the window and embrace the lottery ticket of having two delicious studs who thought he was the perfect choice - 'who not only fit them physically but who also completed the complicated, jagged puzzle that was them' and who wanted to spend some quality time with him on a more personal and intimate basis. 😏
A part of me behaved like Logan - Robbie's boss, the one who got away - as well as the embodiment of desire and perfection and whose recent marriage is one of the reasons for Robbie's spiral into temptation - who senses that the two objects of Robbie's desire were simply preying upon Robbie to soothe their own urges for their claim - not entirely sure that he won't end up feeling used or like a third wheel. 😥
“Relationships are complex. Feelings follow no rules.”
“Any relationship is risky.”
“But, it’s a risk we want to take because we want you to be ours.”
But then there is the part of me that agreed with Robbie, and which feeling, eventually won out - was that he really was not doing anything wrong. That when he was presented with the offer at the most opportune of moments, who was he to deny it and have a little fun and see where it goes? 🥲 Even though the idea is a scandalous one - a married couple, 'two very available, very intriguing, super-hot men interested in him' - and there is always the hint that he won't feel entirely emotionally safe with them, their interest and offer came to him at a time when he himself was nursing the recent wounds of a broken and rejected heart.
And for someone like Robbie who had not been accepted or loved - rejected for who he was - it is such a rewarding feeling to be loved and appreciated just as he was, by two arrogant Alpha, so to speak, who were 'like gods come down to plunder all mortals—or at least hopefully me'- then why not? 😌 It's not only a boost to his own self-confidence - to bask in his own self-worth and indulge in some throes of passion to soothe sharp sting of loneliness and abandonment - but his own journey in discovering what it is that he wants in life - and who wants to share his life with. That the Prick and the Priest believe that this Princess can be their light and savior out of the darkness that more often than they would like to admit would claim their hearts. 💞
“Smile, mon cher petit. You make everything that’s dark fade to nothing when you smile.”
It was a lovely read, I was really pulled into Robbie's story and his path of self-discovery of having the chance to be with those who wanted him - loved may be too soon to say - but the slow build up to acceptance is there. It was easy to read, a little light-hearted at times, but the humorous tone was spot-on; a fair counterpart to their sizzling chemistry with an edge of angst to it, as well; one that came forth when Julien or Priest's past demons spread their wings, or even Robbie's uncertainty of whether or not this was worth it. 🥺 'Destiny had brought Robert Bianchi to their door, exactly when they needed him the most.' It tread softly on everything, that gave it a very wholesome and different vibe for me. It was different, and a bit adventurous, because they are taking a chance. It's a big one, but you can see that all three are happy and do want to make it work; even if it's only been a week, the fact that they're trying to build something beyond just the bedroom means something.
The first half really felt like one long drawn-out foreplay of temptation and coaxing - one where Julien and Priest worked their best to make sure Robbie understood that their invitation to him was not solely sexual - even though the innuendo and lustful gazes is lain on thick; but, it wasn't only that. 'You are bright and vibrant, and Julien and I are drawn to everything about you.' 🫠🫠 It was the two of them doing their level best through their actions and gestures, as well as words to reassure Robbie that it was not only a latent predatory desire they were leaping upon for a quick romp in the sheets - they wanted him - for keeps. They ease into him being comfortable in their presence; it is a hard bargain - a celebrity crush and a sworn enemy, but it is impossible and irresistible to refuse.
“There is a vast difference between wanting someone’s trust so that you can give them all that they need, and wanting someone to change to become the things that you need.”
And when they work to show him that it's not just about wooing him, but assuring him that he understood their intentions of not being taken advantage of, in any way - to build a future with them in which he could learn to love them - it is a complex idea, but it can be a beautiful one, too. Hence, the prolonged wait before they finally do act upon it. I started to understand why she felt necessary for them to be cautious and careful, so Robbie knew where he stood with them; for him to believe that he was not simply being used and then tossed aside and that they wanted him to know them - forever. 😥 'Julien and I—we’re very happy that you wanted to take a risk with us.' So, when they finally do act upon their horny mutual attractions - the passion and desire felt so much more intense. All that teasing - all the innuendo - all the ways they flirted with the expectations, the fruit of that labor paid off in style - threefold. 🥰
I liked their energy - it sparked with such heat and a want of yearning and temptation. ❤️🔥❤️🔥 The subtle touches, and biting and funny banter that sexy little spitfire Robbie didn't shy away from showing his cheeky and playful side to ruffle up Priest's bossy self and his hunger for dominance, while still reassuring that everything came from his heart - only soothed by the comforting and soothing words of Julien's that the play is worth the pleasure. It felt warm and wholesome, despite the sizzling chemistry that radiated desire hotter than whatever delicious temptation Julien whipped up for them time and time again. 'Good morning, boys, shocked that I can still walk this morning?' 😅 The vibe never felt unnatural or unforced, despite Robbie's inner reservations, he never held back in holding his own against the two of them or having the courage to be vulnerable with his emotions - which made them yearn for him more. I didn't seem put-off by any of their smexy times, because of how equal they were in the give and take of being with each other. Every kiss, every touch, was laced with so much trust and I was rooting for them to make it work. 🫠🫠
The love between Julien and Priest also was one of trust and deep devotion - 'never seen two people more in sync with how they’re feeling'. They have a desperate need to care for each other and protect one another and know the innermost secrets of their true selves. I liked that Robbie was enjoying himself - that he was finally happy - being the object of their affection - sort of getting his dues for his own budding attraction to them that he's carried all this time of finally feeling wanted. 'When I’m with them, I can be me and I feel safe. I feel special.' ❤️🩹 ❤️🩹 The two of them were so protective of his feelings already - that I felt that it was not just provocative teases and whispering French delicacies that they hoped from him. It is a big step for them, as well and I loved when Robbie asked questions, voicing his hesitancy and insecurities about entering such a strong committed relationship as theirs - even as the softly and gently reassured that he was the missing piece of their hearts - that they wanted him - for him. Their happiness became contagious, as well as the brief moments where it became a matter of healing and honesty.
“Regrets only happen when you aren’t brave enough to try something that scares you.”
That final moment of Logan's intervention-confrontation - I teared up at Robbie's heartfelt confessions - was a healing stage for him that gave him the window of opportunity to gain closure and heal the pain in his heart. I know Robbie felt more comfortable basking in the softness of Julien's arms, but it was the palpable intensity between him and Priest that I LOVED; how someone he hated - okay, well, hate is a strong word, but more like intimidated by him for so long, because of how daunting his presence always felt to him - could be so protective and caring for him at that moment when he was caught between still appeasing Logan's heart, and torn between trusting his heart to two others - beautiful. 🥹🥹
It was such a raw and emotional scene - one that slightly tempts me to stop here, so I can read the previous series to get some insight into Robbie's background; but I am already in too deep with these three to abandon them just yet. 😆 Especially with the cliffhanger we left off on! But, yeah, Logan's one and only scene - even though his presence is prevalent throughout - just hurt and healed me all in one, so I can only hope that the next step in their lives is one on the path towards happiness. So the cloud that had darkened all three, finally had the chance to allow a little sunshine in. 🫶🏻 🌤️💜
