I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy.
I was hooked from the beginning since it takes place during 9/11 from the protagonist's point of view. I think this author also did a great job of world building, so I wasn't left confused about how their abilities play into everyday life.
Although, Nate and Sophia's relationship seemed to progress extremely rapidly. It makes some sense that they would get together so quickly since they were good friends first years ago, but it seems like once they got comfortable with each other again they jumped right into a relationship. Then it just progressed even faster from there as they acted like characters they had been dating for months/years instead of a few days. The book did mention a lot about how they were moving pretty quickly and how their feelings are different from a regular relationship, so it seems intentional. Nevertheless, I did enjoy reading about the progression of their relationship and it did grow on me.
The focus is definitely more on the love story with the action taking more of a backseat. When there were action scenes though, they kept me enraptured and worried about the character's wellbeing. It was a cute and enjoyable read overall.
The author creates an interesting and compelling new world where paranormal activity actually exists and is a productive and worthwhile career. Sophia tries to overcome past pain associated with her gift while investigating the mysterious death of a close friend. I love the chemistry between Sophia and Nate...I cheered for their relationship from the first page. I can't wait for more stories set in this world!
Great character and world building. I like the romance between Sophia (projector and precognitive [dreams and visions]) and Nate (projector) and close relationships Sophia has with her brother Thomas (telepath) and best friend, Diana (telepath). They all work together at Psi Solutions division at SDCC except for Thomas. One day, Sophia has a terrible feeling and had a vision of Harry (Sophia and Thomas' mentor) being shot and only to arrive at the scene too late. He has been killed already. Sophia and her friends try to find the killer and was surprised to find Harry's house bugged, including his wife Irene, their car, even Sophia and Thomas were bugged too.

Readers’ Comments ‘The thriller element is good as is the romance. This author works hard to offer the reader a pacey paranormal adventure. Personally, I think the girl on the cover is a little too ‘cute and pretty’ but, other than that, a well put together novel. I will read the next.’ Female reader, aged 54 ‘The character work is very good here, even the secondary. A fun, pacey read with a heavy sprinkling of romance. I could see this series of books becoming very popular.’ Female reader, aged 35 ‘Charismatic characters and a compelling future world where people have started to develop new powers. The writing style is light; perfect for a novel of this genre. Interaction between the characters is particularly well-handled. Chemistry develops well, but not too fast, a good sign for the journey ahead. A very interesting, even gripping, start to a paranormal set of books.’ Female reader, aged 51 ‘Excellent start to the series. The ending lacks punch but, of course, this is common when it’s book 1 of the series. I am now fully interested in the characters and keen to find out what happens to them next.’ Male reader, aged 29 ‘Fantastic book. Loved it!!!’ Female reader, aged 26
To Sum It Up: ‘A gripping start to a new paranormal set of books. Well-drawn characters living in a cleverly designed paranormal world. A BRONZE medal winner and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
I received an Advance Reader Copy for RESONANCE (The Resonance Series, Book #1) written by Jennifer Greenhall and voluntarily reviewed this book. This was definitely an interesting storyline, delving into the psychic mind and its far-reaching possibilities of telepathy, astral projections, the dream realm, etc. An unforeseen death leaves Sophia in bereft of a longtime family friend and many questions surrounding his case. Thomas, her twin and best friend has left this world to study marine biology, but Sofia has delved into exploring and helping others all over the world with her still-developing psychic talents as a member of Psi Solutions for the San Diego Consulting Corporation.
Good suspense and romance between gun-shy Sophia and Nate, once a best friend of her ex’s who has now joined Psi Solutions and has made it quite clear he now wants to be much more.
From the beginning, my heart and mind were captivated by this story. I liked the world where psychic gifts were not only acknowledged but given scientific credence, studied and taught. This story is written with intelligence and attention to detail. And i loved the characters. All of them had depth and potential... both good and "bad". Nate and Sophia are wonderful as they move from friendship into love. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series! Bottom line: Outstanding! 5 stars.
I recieved an arc of this book and have voluntarily reviewed it. I loved the idea of this book and at first found it fast paced and exciting. It got a little tied up in mundane details in the middle which I found myself flipping through, but then the action picked up again with a thrilling end. An overall enjoyable read.
This PNR had a lot of different things happening - romance, secret agendas, questions & intrigue. Not everyone is as they seem, is the organisation the heroine works for good....or bad? Who is playing them? An intriguing read. The background of the characters makes for interesting reading, and their powers adds a difference I haven't really come across before, so let's attach 'interesting' to 'intriguing'!
