Immaculate Deception

“In approximately eight minutes, the President will address the nation. Please stay tuned for up-to-date reports. Government officials have declared a state of emergency …” These same words have been repeated day and night for the past three days, on every news channel in every state, every city, and every small town.
Captain Mark Conner stared blankly at the television screen listening to the somewhat muffled voice extending from the television inside. Conner’s thoughts weighed heavily on his mind – too heavily. How could he let himself become a part of this? Conner kept asking himself this as he went over the entire ordeal in his mind step by step, wondering why – how he could be so blind. Finally, he turned away from the screen and pushed through the stagnant summer air to the newsstand next door.
The front page of every newspaper read, " Virus Taints Water Supply. Do Not Consume Order Is Now In Effect." The unidentified virus found its way into the US water supply after striking sections of the Middle East, Europe, Africa, South America, and China. It was believed to have affected other countries as well, although confirmation was still necessary. The origin of the virus remained a mystery, but it was rumored to have started somewhere in the Middle East. No one knew why the virus affected some people while never having an impact on others. That didn’t matter. People were panicking and it was only a matter of time before the supply of bottled water ran out.
Mark Conner knew the truth. He knew what the so-called virus really was. He wished he didn’t. He was a part of this conspiracy. A conspiracy that could possibly end humanity.
There was only one solution. It was up to Conner and his team to take matters into their own hands. It was time to end this deadly state of affairs once and for all, no matter how long that took.
