This just didn't capture me like I expected it to. I liked the idea of modern day beauty and the beast, but I just couldn't get into it.

Also, I thought Lila was kind of boring. The way she stormed into his office with a lot of spunk, I was expecting more from her. I loved the tenacity she showed in the beginning, but as the story went on she lost some of her original spunk, until the end that is. I loved how the end mirrored the beginning. It was cute. But not enough to save the story for me.

After more reflection I think part of the reason I didn't like this book was because of their whole arrangement. I just didn't like it, it was so wrong, he was buying her. I would have liked it better if he hired her to be a housekeeper or personal assistant and then their chemistry brought them together. But the arrangement they had just seemed so sleazy. I couldn't really get past that.

A seriously problematic read!

FMC is 28, she would do anything for her father who owns a small shop. His property is threatened to be bought by a greedy developer. MMC is said developer, he was a handsome viking, had an accident, the left side of his face became disfigured and now he's a grumpy asshole recluse.

FMC confronts MMC: telling him that she's up to anything if he doesn't force her dad to sell. He wants her as a mistress since every gold digging bitch he sleeps with steals his money and then break up with him because he's ugly.

The MMC never and I mean NEVER met a decent woman in his life. His mother was a cold hearted cheater. The first girl he slept with accused him of rape. The woman who was the cause of his accident left him after seeing his scarred left side. Women cry/ scream/ faint with disgust and pity.

Enter our martyr heroine who took it upon herself to convince him that looks aren't important. That she accepts him. That she wants to be his friend and his lover. Bitch: you're blackmailed basically kidnapped to fulfill his sexual pleasures, what in the Stockholm syndrome are you doing?

This book was hot, and sexy as hell. Hunter Jamison, a property developer. He was also deemed The Beast because of his business tactics. Hunter used to be a player, that is until he had a horrible car accident that left him scarred for life. I'm no good at book reviews, so I'm just writing this straight from the heart.

Lila's father, James Saunders was in danger of losing his business to Hunter, and was hell bent on saving her father's business. After sending letters and calling the company in vain, Lila decides to see Hunter face to face. I love how she barged into his office. LOL

To make a long story short, Hunter propositioned Lila. You see, after the car accident, hunter lost his confidence, and deemed himself a freak because of his scars. Everywhere he went, folks would do double takes, he also made little children cry. So, there was no more socializing in the public eye, he became a hermit. Hunter agreed not to take over Saunders if Lila agreed to stay with him for three months, which she did.

Neither party thought they would fall for one another the way they did. It was a shame, because Hunter had so many hang ups stemming from his childhood, hence the way he treated women. In the beginning, he does seem like quite the a-hole, but after reading the story thoroughly, you'll come to adore him. Lila helps him through his pain.

Now, the last conflict of this book, Hunter realizes the true meaning of love and sacrifice. This is the part that really warmed my heart, and had me smiling. Seriously folks, you've got to read this story, I've printed it out, and have it one of my flash drives because I will definitely be reading this one again.

Eve, you did a hell of a job.

I didn't really care for this book. I don't know if it was because I was expecting something a little more historical (the word "mistress" makes me think of flouncy dresses, demure ladies who are caught in the web of a scandalous life and rakish men who undoubtedly hold a title and own a large house with plenty of land and horses) or what, but I never really connected to the characters.

For starters, Lila spends the first half of the book angry and ashamed that she's basically whoring herself out so that her father can keep his livelihood and then she miraculously has a turn around and decides that she needs to get to know Hunter better. At that point, their angry sex because impassioned and they begin to realize that maybe they could love one another.

For me, the revelation came too suddenly. Lila hated him and refused to look at him (which, of course, causes Hunter to think that she's repulsed by his scars) and then suddenly she's throwing herself whole-heartedly into making sweet, sweet love with him. Wait. What? It simply didn't work for me.

As I said, I just didn't care for it.

My guilty pleasure....

Ok, so I know the premise was slightly ridiculous. And I know that Lila pretty much prostituted herself out to Hunter to save her father's business but, surprisingly, I really enjoyed this book. It was just a well written story. Parts that would normally make me roll my eyes somehow didn't. Even though Hunter is demanding and seemingly merciless to Lila in the beginning, the author does a good job of getting us inside his head so we know he's not just being a jerk for being a jerk's sake. In a way he was right, it was a business arrangement and they both knew why she was there. Lila is no pushover and I found her resolve refreshing without being overbearing. The sex scenes are HOTTTT, yes, even when Lila can't stand him or so she thinks. I loved the gradual progression of their friendship and the realization of their feelings. Loved the scenes with Lila and Hunter's dogs, which allowed Hunter to first get a glimpse into his feelings for Lila and I enjoyed their dinner conversations. When things got comfortable between them, it gave me the warm fuzzies. I pretty much loved everything about the book. I knocked one star off because I thought that the way that Hunter chose to end their contract was unnecessarily lame and only served to throw in a twist. There was no need for that and it was the only thing that spoiled the book for me. Of course, they got back together so all's well that ends well.

This is definitely a book that I will read many times over.

When I picked this book up, I was expecting kind of a real life beauty and the beast, but instead I got this.
Honestly, I hated this book. I can't think of a single thing that I enjoyed.
There was the semi-abusive main male character who had major anger management problems and who seems to have no problem with basically raping a girl who he has brought in as basically a prostitute.
He was annoying. She was annoying. Their relationship came out of nowhere...I'm stopping there because I could go on forever about all the things I found wrong with this book.
Basically, don't read this. I looked over other people's reviews and some seem to have liked it, so maybe it was just me, but I would still not ever recommend reading this book.

Since Hunter Jamison’s accident that scarred half his face, he’s turned his back on the social life he once lived and has hardened his heart. His women can’t look at him in the face and only want his money.

When Lila Saunders barges into his office, furious over his company using force to buy her father’s store, she claims she’ll do anything to get him to stop. Her father’s fragile health is connected to the stress of potentially losing his livelihood.

With his most recent woman leaving him, he makes her a deal. If she makes it 3 months living with him at his beck and call, he’ll rearrange his multimillion dollar plan.

They start off on horrible footing. Both testing the other and refusing to listen. Lila can’t believe her body’s betrayal when his touch sets her on fire.

A late night call to her father, who believes she’s taken a job with a sick patient, helps her in a theoretical way when he suggest her cranky patient is just acting out of loneliness and misunderstanding since his accident.

Lila tries to keep that in mind, but the next night at dinner sets her off when they get in an argument over looks. Calling her a hypocrite for she still hasn’t fully looked at him, he roughly handles her in bed.

His conscience hits soon after and he apologizes. This is the turn of events for them. Choosing to stay with him in bed, Lila now sees him a human being who has had no compassion in his life.

For the next 2 months, they gain acceptance from each other. Learning about their past and equally making the other happy. Just as his business friend comments on his change of attitude and puts the credit to love, Hunter goes home to find a homesick Lila.

He takes her longing to see her father and go back to her job as a sign she sees this still as a deal only. He uses hurtful words to send her packing a month before the deal is over.

For weeks they are both miserable. Her father, who figured out what she agreed to early on, can’t believe she’s not willing to fight for her feelings, for she too fell in love with Hunter. As for Hunter, his buddy urges him to do the same, claiming love is about taking risk.

In a déjà vu scene, Lila barges into his office, demanding to know why he hurt her the way he did. Finally Hunter opens up about his feelings and learns she feels the same way.

Way too predictable

Okay, the story itself isn't bad, but this is so formulaic and predictable that it's kinda annoying. I actually thought I was reading "Run" for a minute. If you're looking for a generic love story, then this is it. The H is not truly an alpha but is just an asshole. The h on the other hand, is not a wilting violet. She's strong. Unfortunately the transition from hate to love was handled very clumsily and did not make much sense. I suggest grabbing "Run" instead. It may be me, but I feel that book had much better character development.

What can I say the beast was really a beast and the beauty was just that . When you treat people with love and respect wonderful things happen, In this story a man deemed the beast turned into a prince and his beauty became his princess this erotic fairytale is a wonderful story.

The Beauty and the Beast story is a time-honored classic that frankly never gets old. Of late, there are many varied and interesting versions and this is one of them ...

We meet the lovely heroine, Lila Saunders when she storms into the scarred hero, Hunter Jamison's office willing to do anything to save her father's business (and life) from being razed. Hunter decides to test her willingness by offering her the recent Mistress to the Beast vacancy that opened up unexpectedly when his former mistress broke their contract.

Lila is shocked and appalled and being between a rock and a hard place she considers the pros and cons and she knows she has no other option. Hunter does give her time to back out of the arrangement, but he makes it clear a no would have serious consequences for her father's business, so she signs on the dotted line.

Hunter is a tyrant and beast mainly because of his insecurities about his scarred face and the constant rejection of women, past and present. Determined to flip the script (so to speak), Lila changes her tactics and sets out to get to know the real Hunter. Eventually, they are both able to let their guard down and discover, deep down they enjoy each other's company and companionship.

The pivotal confession scene with her father didn't work for me. No way her father saw Hunter's name on his Caller ID, and no way Hunter has a public/published phone number. Please tell me ... in what Universe would you tell your father you prostituted yourself in order to save his business, complete with gory details! In the words of Jimmy Fallon ... Eww! Sorry, there are some things you take to the grave. NOTE: Graphic Erotica.

Reissue: Originally written in 2008 and holds up fairly well with the passage of time.

I say this gets 3 1/2 stars!
This was a quick read for me with just a little over 200pgs. It has the Classic Beauty and the Beast theme where two unlikely people find love in an unlikely situation!

Book Summary below from Goodreads
Her father-s shop is more than just a family business. It-s the place they lovingly call home. When a powerful property development company stoops to barely legal tactics to force them to sell, Lila-s outrage spurs her straight to the source to fight the injustice.

A serious accident left Hunter Jamison-s body scarred. A bitter split from his latest lover has left the former playboy without faith in the female sex. A simple agreement? Hardly. It-s a battle of wills that flares into much more than either of them bargained for-a consuming passion that could heal Hunter-s soul-deep scars-or inflict new ones.

Warning: This title contains blackmail, vehicular sex, angry sex, light bondage and graphic language.

I know a number of people seem to like this book, but it didn't work for me at all. Lila effectively does prostitute herself for her father, and Hunter blackmails her into it and is forceful and demeaning to her the first few times he does take her. Not to mention I found it utterly ridiculous that Hunter changes around from being a complete a-hole about everything in life to a tender loving partner in one quick moment of revelation. People don't work that way.

A little too rapey for me. And the massive amount of spelling errors and use of obscure words took me out of the story a lot.

Ok so I had to knock this down a star because of the many typos. I’m not an editor by any means, but the mistakes were glaringly obvious. It almost has me thinking that the author wrote this book with voice to text dictation.

So for a romance, it’s good. The sex scenes are hot and heavy. The plot centers around Beauty and the Beast type bargain so yeah, it’s automatically going to have rapey vibes. Rape is not ok, ok? But you can’t really have a beauty and beast sex book without the sex. And the scenes were well done. Definitely “book porn” without the pictures lol

The book started off strong but then towards the end, and the ending, was kind of meh. Lila and Hunter broke up but then also made up too quickly for me. There wasn’t enough groveling on Hunter’s part; especially after all the foul shit he said to her.

Hunter’s self deprecation got annoying and bland very quickly. I understand why that was, but also for someone as rich as him he would still be a pompous ass full of himself. Especially as he stays forcing people to do what he wants just because he has money, him moping around throughout the book feeling sad for himself felt off.

I liked Lila but damn girl have some backbone. She fell for Hunter way too quickly which just sucked the suspense out of it. Also girl could have at least took a moment to use her brain cells to contemplate for more than a day or two instead of immediately jumping to be Hunter’s side piece.

Hunter and Lila were okay as a couple I guess but certain parts did come off really rapey. Especially when they first got together when she wanted to take things slow and he was forcing her into the bedroom like 🥴. That turned me right off.

Okay read that could have been better if the author left more room for the story to breath and made the characterization of the MCs a bit more consistent.

This is my review and how I see it. Beauty and the Beast with a twist. Lila Saunders burst into Hunter Jamison's office like a ball of fire to save her father's business. What happens next leaves Lila's head spinning. She has just made a deal with the "Beast."

You have to wonder about that road paved with good intentions, as Lila fights against Hunter outside the bedroom initially things began to change. Hunter has been attracted to her from the start; however, his insecurities and his past have kept him from giving in and telling Lila how he really feels.

Here's the twist, while the Beauty and the Beast stories we have read in the past or see on television and movies put the father in a not so favorable light this one does the exact opposite and the father helps his daughter see the light as well as her feelings for her "beast."

This is my review and how I see it.

D+/C-- read

I liked how ... whatever Lila was about her looks, and how Hunter fell in love - but it just seemed to rely on the romance tropes/genre itself - you believe/know the hero and heroine will fall in love so you're just going to go with it. There were a lot of holes for me.

I did appreciate how Lila was still her own person and fought with Hunter; I just don't believe someone who disgusts you, that you hate and/or fear leads to the best mind blowing sex you've ever had - so I guess it was written a bit *too* far into Lila not wanting to be there etc. [And Hunter being too much of an asshole]

I liked that they both grew and discovered things about each other; how Hunter was willing to let Lila go ... but overall I just wish I'd liked this story more

I can't begin to express how much I disliked this book. The main couple was juvenile, plot predictable. Lila is physically perfect and Hunter has facial scars. A lot of emphasis is placed on physical appearances in the story, it's all they talk about. I knew this book was in trouble when Lilia fainted at the sight of Hunter's scars. They enter into a strange contract, which is actually Hunter paying to have sex with Lila. The first night they are together he practically rapes her, but it's ok because she was wet. I love a good alpha male but Hunter had no redeeming qualities and I'm not sure why they fell in love.

I had my misgivings about this. Obviously, its a turn at Beauty and the Beast. And a pretty good one. Hunter, aka. The Beast, is scarred physically and emotionally, and is unable to trust women. Lila, starts off to save her father, by signing for 3 months as the Mistress of the Beast, but then she is compelled to heal the Beast.

Its a sweet story. Short and emotional, with only one nasty rejection part. Worth a read.

4. stars. This book was very interesting. How harsh Hunter was but it was understandable he have been going with his trauma of faced scarred and didn't want pity. But Lila looked the inside of this man, and brought him so much happiness in those days with him, than in his lifetimes.

Two Mottos on this book for me are:
(1) Don't judge the book by is cover
(2) Enjoy life to the fullest.

*ehem* Allow me to read an short excerpt from Mistress to the Beast

“Her mouth fell open. His dick was huge!”

I believe that says all that needs to be said. How this got published, I will never know. Why I decided to try to read it—-an even bigger mystery (bigger, even, than his dick).

Romance: 0/5

It's always nice when you can get a modern twist to an old fashioned fairy tale. The writer comes through firing on all cylinders. This was one sexy explosive romance and it doesn't let up.I only wish we could have gotten a peak at them in the future to see what the life was like.Overall a well done story and very entertaining!

I tired but nope - it was just not for me. The hero is a shallow horndog and the heroine a misguided ornament with pretend backbone - didn't like them and their relationship is just tons of sex - hot sex mind you but I read for more than a few steamy sex scenes
