The Dark is angry…
Jameson, the dummy, went off chasing boobs so now I’m chasing a boob too—him.
Every road so far ends at a dead end or with someone dead at the end. Mostly the latter. My patience is growing short and so is the time I have to save him.
But as Phobe, the father of darkness himself and my best-friend and lover, blithely reminds me with his sharp smile, there’s a reason the Sidhe chose me and that reason leaves me covered in blood.
When I finally find the people who took my nerd—I realize the totality of their deception.
Betrayed unexpectedly, that ache calls forth the angry darkness waiting inside of me. Bringing it to the very edge of escaping my control. I’m not sure how much longer I can hold it back or if I even want to anymore. Especially not when Phobe smiles that sexy, scary way he does, enticing me to give in to it and let it reign.
There’s also another incentive, the people responsible for ALL the pain and heartache in my life are only a few dead bodies away.

3.5 -4.25 rounded up!!!!!

Book 1 is just AMYzing!! The sequels are good just not as good as Elusion, I can't pinpoint out what didn't work for me 'cuz the characters are AMYZING!!! It must be one of those cases of its-not-you-its-me. Call me crazy cuz everyone loves this series so much but I think it should've been a duology not longer???

But anyway!!! Overall this series is so so good! #MustRead

4.5 Stars.

I don’t know where to begin... so much. Well, first I’ll start with my emotions, which were all over the dang place! I felt excitement, happiness, annoyance, frustration, anger, worry, relief, oh well you get it!

I started with feeling that Iza’s guilt and responsibility was too much. She drove me nuts (as she drove every character around her, cause that’s Iza). I see why though and it will all come to light. I refuse to give anything away, but know that Zoe Parker is taking you on a journey. Trust in the writer. Iza will grow and still be Iza.

Speaking of growth, you will see more of that with some of the other characters as well. I like that we’re seeing some of Iza’s supporting team. In this book more will be learned, truths uncovered, and gain some new understanding of what Iza and Phobe are up against.

I read this book with some fellow heretics in Reverse Harem Revolution (heretics because obviously this is NO reverse harem), and many of us felt that rollercoaster feeling. Zipping through emotions. All I say is watch out for that last bit (the last 35% is the best). Definitely collect your info in the first part.

Oh, and yes Phobe does not disappoint. He never does.

Back to the darker side of Feyrie

Iza and Phobe are facing their biggest challenges yet. Some powerful enimes are making their presence known and Iza needs to embrace her inner monster to protect her people.

I let my glamour drop, completely. I’m sick of hiding behind masks, sick of letting others think they can walk all over me… all over all of us. Let them see what we are

I love when Iza lets the glamour down and shows us her true colours while still keeping her compassion for those who deserve it!

There a lot of big surprises in this one that may leave you in tears or shouting at your kindle...consider yourself warned!!

My heart will always be with Iza and Phobe during their time in imprisonment but the dynamic change at the end is making me very excited to see where Zoe will take it next

As the title suggests, Iza is deceived in this book. And it goes pretty badly.
Iza and Phoebe are smitten with each other, in very violent and obsessive ways that are somehow super sweet and adorable.
The violence and torture come back in a big way, but at least it's someone else's turn.
It's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for the MC, and a great precursor for the final book.

2.5 stars. This book felt slow, had even more feminist issues than the last one did, still had grammar issues, and had about a million plot issues. Brace yourselves; this review is long because this book made me cranky. Even so, I still ended up with a series hangover, and I can’t wait for book 4. I just hope it’s better than this one.

It’s time for another feminist rant. In my review of book 2, I talked about how messed up it is that Iza’s worth in the grand scheme of things is somewhat defined by whether a specific man loves her. That’s still an issue, but this book introduces other issues as well: It repeatedly portrays women as (1) controlled by their hormones and (2) obsessed with men.
(1) Menstruation has come up a few times since Iza left the prison, in part because human menstruation products are foreign to her and thus fascinate her. That was fine and even entertaining at times. However, in this book, Iza goes into heat, which messed with her hormones as human menstruation affects those of humans. As far as I can tell, this heat does not serve any purpose in the plot. She’s repeatedly described as overreacting to things, and her emotions are described as volatile. This honestly felt like the kind of example an ignorant man would give to show why women should not be in positions of power. Later, Phobe describes a scene in which “Ruthie insists that she is not menstruating and Iza argues that only menstruating women act like bitches.” Omfg. This scene felt like an example of something most women will encounter at some point in their lives: A woman becomes upset about something, and the man she is speaking to asks if she is on her period, implying that her emotions are invalid and belittling her by suggesting that she is incapable of handling her hormones.
(2) Essentially, two women are shown as obsessed with men. I can’t really address this one without spoilers, so here goes: . This series has a definite trend in its male/female dynamics, and it frustrates me.

As for some general issues, I didn’t like that I didn’t really have a sense of the schoth threat on a large scale, so I didn’t really fear the invasion. I mean, I know what some schoth are like on an individual level in the prison, but I’m not really connecting with Phobe and Iza’s warnings that the invasion will be bad. For whatever reason, I don’t really care about the humans, who will be most affected by the invasion, so it feels sort of distant. Furthermore, there was this nice moment when Iza , and I totally thought it was going to spy for her and tell her where to go, not just kill him slowly. I felt like that was a missed opportunity. I also think it’s fairly annoying that Iza is acting all righteous about bucking tradition and making new laws, even though she wouldn’t be changing anything if those traditions weren’t affecting her kids.

Also, I have very mixed feelings about the ending. On the one hand, the ending is one of the only things keeping me interested in the next book. On the other hand, I feel like we’ve already done this before, and I’m worried book 4 is just going to read like a repeat of book 1. Fingers crossed that the author gets back on the right track!

I could make this review a lot shorter by just summarizing the following complaints, but inconsistent and randomly generating plot elements are a pet peeve of mine, and this book had so many that it just put me in an awful mood.

This book also had A TON of plot elements that came out of nowhere:
• A major plot point stems from certain characters getting sick in the past, but I have no memory of that happening.
• Iza talks about Nika going off the deep end “like some mateless female dragons,” but there was no prior hint that this is a thing that happens sometimes.
• 24% into the book, the author casually says, “He’s the Guide, Iza’s Light counterpart,” like we’re supposed to know that’s a thing. The author says that Iza and Jameson already knew all about this Guide because they researched him to the point that Iza could recognize his tattoos on sight. HE. WAS. NEVER. MENTIONED. BEFORE. THIS. POINT. When tf did Iza and Jameson do this research?! The Guide was an issue again at 53% when Iza talks about how she had been able to “feel something out there in the world, something dangerous to me.” Again, I have no sense of how long she’d been feeling this threat because she had never mentioned sensing anything like this before now. Honestly, it feels like the author got the idea for the Guide after already publishing the first two books and just decided to go for it and see if she could trick us into believing he had always been part of the story.
• At 49%, Phobe says, “[Iza’s] death touch does not work on every creature.” Since when does she have a death touch?! Pressing your claws into someone until they are ripped to shreds doesn’t count!
• At 54%, Phobe says, “Great leathery, black wings unfurl from my back,” and again, I had no idea that Phobe had wings because he had never used them before this point.

And if the plot/character elements didn’t come out of nowhere, then either they were inconsistent or the narration didn’t match the actual events:
• As I said in the my review of the last book, I don’t like how the author handled Knox in this book and book 2. His behavior was so exaggerated in book 2 that . Is he a werewolf, or was he just found with werewolves? I thought maybe his species explained why Phobe was having trouble reading him, but we never got an explanation for that. The whole issue seemed so unnecessary, like the author only wanted to add suspense. And again, he STILL doesn’t seem to be as old as the author says he is.
• Iza describes Nika’s behavior regarding Jameson as erratic but I thought the behavior was consistent. Nika was selfish but not erratic.
• During her heat, Iza was repeatedly described as volatile and overreacting. Honestly, she seemed as quick to anger as ever. Part of the problem was that her triggers were all things that it seemed reasonable to be angry about. Even though I hated this plot element, it would have been more effective if we had seen her getting super angry about something that we had seen her not care about before.
• Phobe gets mad at Iza for being more self-destructive than usual, but she’s always had a terrible sense of self-preservation and a need to fight everything. I didn’t see anything different there either.
• Phobe continues to describe Iza’s thoughts as unusual and even calls her mentally ill. However, I still don’t see that at all. She’s easily distracted and good at avoiding unpleasant memories, but that’s it.
• What ever happened to that prince in pink that Iza worked so hard to find? He never showed up after that.
• At 29%, Iza said, “I have years of practice from sneaking around while I was in prison.” I guess she could have snuck around before she was transferred, but she definitely never did it during book 1. Being unable to leave her cell was the entire reason that she was starving and conserving water.
• At 68%, the Guide calls Iza’s phone while she sleeps, and Phobe picks up without saying a word. The Guide says, “I have a collar that will make your dear Iza mortal.” He called Iza's phone. Why would he think he was talking to Phobe?
• At 78%, Iza contemplates the actions of another character: “This seems too out of character and completely unexpected.” The author acknowledging that issue doesn't make it better, although it wasn’t quite as unexpected as Iza claimed.

Here are my reviews of the previous books:
Elusion ★★★★
Ascension ★★★★

Zoe Parker has done it again in her third installment of her Facets of Feyrie series. It is everything I wanted and then some. I was on an emotional rollercoaster throughout the entire book - excitement, laughter, nervous, uncertainty, gut wrenching, relief, anger....the list of emotions is a long one. There is so much action, things that happen and things that are revealed. I'm scared to say much because I really don't won't to ruin the story or plot for you. So I'll try to keep this as basic while informative as I can.

Iza, while one of my favorite female main characters, started off this book slightly on the annoying side. She was still wallowing in unjustified guilt and suffering from pigheaded martyrdom. I really wanted her character to grow out of this phase sooner, but rest assured it does happen - under extreme duress, but it happens nonetheless. She also goes through her 'heat' which apparently is supposed to be a million times worse than human female PMS. Unfortunately we don't get to experience much of the anger and hyper-libido, Phobe keeps her calm by keeping her sated-when we're not looking. This is a bad timing for her emotions to be out of control since she is getting hit from all sides: The invasion has started, the traitor and the possessed Feyrie are pushing harder, Jameson is kidnapped, and....so much stuff!

Phobe, has tremendous character growth. He experiences all the feelings, recognizes them and embraces them. His love for Iza knows no bounds and has little trouble expressing them. He's extremely worried about Iza and her reckless behavior, continuous guilt and martyrdom. He's determined to do whatever it takes to ensure she survives this war no matter the cost. Can I just say that Phobe is the best fictional boyfriend! I don't want to give away everything because you need to read it for yourself.

There were a few spots that I wasn't happy about, but nothing that destroyed my reading enjoyment. The first thing was P.I.T. - the human paranormal investigation organization that we meet briefly in Ascension. You remember? The assholes that were abducting and running tests on Feyries? Yeah they're back in Deception. Except this time they come to Iza for help. They can not fight the invading schoth. Instead of bargaining with them for say.....P.I.T. staying away from all Feyries - no more experiments, no more abducting, no more locking them in cells - she agrees to help protect the innocent humans. I would expect Iza to agree to help, but I really do think she missed out on an opportunity to not only provide a safer future for her people, but to get any remaining Feyrie's freed.

The 2nd thing I already mentioned - Iza's continued guilt and self sacrifice. It went on far too long. I won't harp on this one because, like I said, this issue is fixed and she's done letting people walk all over her.

Overall I am very impressed with what Zoe Parker has done with this book, and series so far. It's definitely worth the read, the emotional rollercoaster, and the book hangover I'm currently sitting in. I can hardly wait to see what happens in book 4!

Wavered lower in the first half of the book, but the final third tore my heart out!

Iza and Phobe are one of my favourite fictional couples ever. They are just awesome and amazing and I love them.

That's about all the coherence I have for the minute!

What an amazing book.!

This series just keeps getting better with each book. Iza is such a unique and wonderful MC. I love that she is dark and still has such a big heart.

Iza and Phobe are such a great couple, they are dark and gritty, dangerous and I love them even more for it.

A Slightly Peeved Low 3 STARS

In this third instalment of Iza’s story/journey she endures rage, betrayal, heartbreak and a happy surprise, yet the magic wasn’t there for me.

This book was overall an ok one time read, but it ended in a frigging non-ending so to speak, nothing was tied neatly with a bow, which left me a tad peeved. Don’t know why I thought book 4 would be about another character – lesson learnt from now on I’ll double check. On one hand, the ending is the only reason I might give book 4 a go, but on the other hand I’m feeling like in book 4 a lot may happen but with no real substance, as I felt occurred in this book.

I also wasn’t keen on how the author handled some characters such as Knox, it was a disappointment to say the least.

Wow. All the feelings I experienced, I wanted to cry, laugh and scream throughout this book. This book gives us a closer look at Iza and Phobe's feelings, I think the characters have grown so much by the end, especially Iza. Betrayal and loss hit Iza hard and very close to home, by someone we would never expect. This book has it all and I'm anticipating the fourth book in this great series. Amazing job Zoe Parker!

Excellent, as always!

I don't even know how to express my love of this series. Iza and Phobe are my most favorite monsters and Ms. Parker truly knows how to enmesh a reader into a story so fully that you can't help but experience every up and down, laugh and cry that the characters do.

I can't wait for the next book!

Deception sees Iza and Phobe going on a hunt for her pet idiot Jameson. ‘The Boob’ gets tempted out of the Sidhe for a hook up and the promise of boobs and gets kidnapped and tortured instead. Oh, and the war for this earth has also begun. You do need to read the first two books in the series beforehand but they are equally as good so you won’t regret it.

This book is full of darkness, humour, love and gore. Two deliciously dark monsters in an epic battle for our earth have a love that’s, well....epic. The thing that stands out for me in this book is the character development Phobe, Iza, Jameson, even the Sidhe all change and grow. There is death, betrayal and torture by the bucket load and for a book that still has the larger story arc still to finish it has a very satisfying ending that doesn’t leave you too frustrated, waiting for the next book. (which I appreciate)

I am a total fan girl when it comes to anything Zoe Parker writes. It’s just so different to anything else out there. I’m looking forward to more from Iza and Phobe.

Oh snap, it's heating up mayorly.
While the previous book felt a bit filler like, this to me doesn't feel like thar at all and brings with it a bit of sleuthing, a bit of romance and a whole lot of tearing up beings/murdering to her hearts content.

Jameson getting kidnapped was, sorry to say, funny af in like the actual part how, like dude omfg are you dumber than a bag of bricks or what lol. He is an entertaining side character though and while he does absolutely idiotic things he does try to better himself.

Iza is amazing and I like the moments of lightheartedness that she brings to the story, I think without her quirky personality it might be very doom and gloom.

The déception thing I didn't see coming untill the last bit of foreshadowing, it thought it might be someone else so kuddos.

I've never loved monsters more than I do in Facets of Feyrie, and in this book, the monsters really come out to play. All of our beloved characters go through some serious, sometimes hilarious, and sometimes heartbreaking events that force them all to grow and adapt. The story sank it's claws into me and still won't let me go. ...and I can't say that I mind.

Holy hotness!

So Iza is my spirit monster and did Phobe get hotter? I think so. I think this book just leap frogged over all of my expectations and there should be extra stars just for this instance. I don’t even know where to really begin...

Iza is still looking for the possessed one, her betrayer, and somehow her nerd Jameson gets taken. I know he is slightly brain dead in the areas of common sense, but if you have ever known real geniuses they tend to use wicker bottom chairs as step stools as well as glass topped tables. Brilliant minds that would be the first to go in the apocalypse. I feel like Jameson will find the tiny bit of knowledge they need to take down the light, he is super important and there will be a good reason Phobe didn’t eat him in book one.

Without giving spoilers, I never saw it coming. Not even Jameson’s backbone which he totally grew. I was surprised and enthralled. A magical spell was woven over me and I’m already plotting a reread. This book is simply magnificent and I can’t wait for more. Phobe just gets better and more swoon-worthy as we go along. Iza is growing into herself and that chaotic madness is maturing. This series is fun, original and fantastically addictive. I want more!!

I'm flabbergasted this book got 4.44 stars...

After book 1 and 2, I dont know why I kept reading book 3. Might have to do with the fact that I am home, ill and on the couch ... but still nothing justifies this. I cannot stress how bad is the world building... so many errors and nonsense.
Didnt we say in a previous book that vampires are marked as light feyries? why is Iza surprised then?
Also isa is such an annoying self righteous and hypocritical character... she wants to protect everyone, but then she decides to leave by herself to go meet the vampire prince especially when Phobe told her not to leave the Sidhe while he's away... oh wait it s because he gave her an "order" so she's happy to jeopordize everyone's safety. What about "the guide" who supposedely Iza and Jameson already knew about? This ia huge, the author should have introduced it in a different way ... I will stop here as there are too many errors to remember.
My god, this is horrible writting... the structure lacks direction (again please stop publishing books without getting them read by an editor, I cannot believe this has been published...). And being stuck in the head of Iza just makes me want to punch someone. Her in particular.
That's it I give up...

Slow ....and frustrating dry spell

How can there be a five day heat cicle without any romantic/bed scenes. A hint for a shower scene that included a hole in the wall because Phobe had to have her. I can't tell you more. BECAUSE that scene was totally skipped and not included in this book :( That really sucks....the missing Phobe was a nice part i took with hook and sinker to be dissapointed about the way Phobe returned....so all with all 3 stars and a little mehhh

So sad and disappointed on this one guys. I only read about 34% and I just knew I couldn't finish this book even if I tried. Lots of eye rolling, and "really"! Moments. I really wanted to like it since I really loved Zoe's other books, but this book was ridiculously childish, and quite freaking bad
