A few years ago Rebecca Cantrell quit her job, sold her house, and moved to Hawaii to write a novel because, at seven, she decided that she would be a writer. Now she writes the award-winning Hannah Vogel mystery series set in Berlin in the 1930s. “A Trace of Smoke,” "A Night of Long Knives," "A Game of Lies," and "A City of Broken Glass." She also co-writes the Order of Sanguines series with James Rollins, starting with the upcoming book 1: "The Blood Gospel." And she writes the iMonster series as Bekka Black, including "iDrakula" and "iFrankenstein."

A faded pink triangle pasted on the wall of Dachau Concentration Camp and time in Berlin, Germany in the 1980s inspired “A Trace of Smoke.” Fluent in German, she received her high school diploma from the John F. Kennedy Schule in Berlin and studied at the Freie Universität in Berlin and the Georg August Universität in Göttingen.

When she visited Berlin in the summer of 2006, she was astounded to discover that many locations in her novel have been rebuilt and reopened in the last few years, including the gay bar El Dorado and the Mosse House publishing house.

Her short story “Coffee” will appear in the “Missing” anthology in February 2009.

Her screenplay “The Humanitarian” was a finalist at Shriekfest 2008: The Los Angeles Horror/Sci-fi Film Festival. Her screenplay “A Taste For Blood” was a finalist at the Shriekfest 2007: The Los Angeles Horror/Sci-fi Film Festival.

As of this writing, she lives in Berlin with her Ironman husband and son.

"E" is for Exposed : Malibu Mystery 5
Chronological order recommended.

In A Nutshell: Sofia's mother's friend, who is married to a police officer, is being blackmailed. Her indiscretion with a male stripper was filmed and unless she pays up, her husband will find out. Unfortunately, Sofia's family get all up in the mix as she tries to unravel a compromising situation. That works out funny for us the reader, not so much for Sofia. For the most part, this is an enjoyable book, but the social commentary was annoying at times.

The Plot:Maloney investigations have to break a blackmail stripper ring.

The Protagonists: Sofia Salgado was the child star of a hit series called The Half Pint Detective. But fame and fortune was not her dream but that of her sister. A frustrated Sofia, age 22, wants something more meaningful. And she may have found it in detecting. Sofia is amusing and is becoming determined and focused.

Another opening scene that captures and holds the reader's attention. The series is making a feature of such beginnings.

Aiden, Sofia's pain in the butt co-worker, has to go undercover as a stripper. That is enough to make you want to read the book. Aiden is getting his comeuppance at last!

It was all good fun until Sofia's film star gay friend Gray makes ridiculous comments which go unchallenged. On reviewing his time as a male stripper, Gray says ‘I felt like a piece of meat. Chicks are way worse than guys when it comes to stuff like that. ‘ Sophia wouldn’t have believed that but before last night but he had a point.’

It is absolute nonsense and marred my enjoyed. I am too aware of the problems that women face and read cosies to escape them, not have a false narrative reinforced.

Overall the book is entertaining, and one that Stephanie Plum fans may enjoy.

Recommended.

"E" Is For Exposed: Malibu Mystery, Book 5 by Sean Black and Rebecca Cantrell, narrated by Madeline Mrozek takes you on an absolutely hilarious and adventurous ride through the world of strip clubs and blackmail. If you've read any of my reviews, you know I have a (slightly annoying) habit of not listening to books in a series in the order they are intended. Well, I did it again, but with this one I didn't spoil any of the fun for myself because it could be considered a stand-alone. :-) If anything, it made me more excited to go grab Book 1 and start at the beginning! The writing is fantastic! I felt like I was there, solving the case right alongside my new besties. The engaging plot and dialogue between characters had me laughing out loud throughout the entire book. Even secondary characters, such as the mom, had me rolling with laughter! Seriously, if the other books are as good as this one, I may have found my new favorite series!!

The perfomance by Madeline Mrozek is 100% outstanding! This is not my first time listening to her, but if it is yours, just know that you are in for a treat. She has an amazing ability of bringing stories and characters to life. If given the option to read a book or listen to it, 10 out of 10 times I would choose to listen if Madeline Mrozek is narrating. She doesn't just add to my overall listening experience...she MAKES the experience! She pulls you in with her first word and doesn't let go. Even now, after the book has ended, I can hear the characters still speaking. I think there are a lot of good narrators out there, but there are few who I would call great performers. Madeline Mrozek is a performer. I'm sure many of you will agree with me when I say she is a master and true professional in this field! ;-)

It is without hesitation that I rate "E" is for Exposed: Malibu Mystery, Book 5 by Rebecca Cantrell and Sean Black, narrated by Madeline Mrozek 5/5 stars across the board!! I assure you, it is entertaining and non-offensive. It had me laughing, heightened my mood, and made me feel like I, too, was a PI in training. I'm confident you will feel the same! With my next credit, I plan to purchase Book 1 and start my adventure with Maloney Investigations from the beginning. I highly recommend this audiobook to fans of the genre, as well as to those who appreciate good writing and outstanding performances!

Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)

I enjoyed this book. This book had me chuckling all the way through with the situations the characters found themselves in, especially poor Aidan. Blackmail is a popular motive in mysteries but this book was unusual in the fact that it is the male character that has to go undercover as a stripper. It is a cosy so no sex, there is a lot of sexual references and jokes but it is all in good fun. The mystery wasn't complicated as you knew who the blackmailer is and it is more how Sofia and her team go about getting the evidence and getting ready to dance The characters are what made this story so funny. I might even have to get the audio book.
When a friend of Sofia's mum is blackmailed after getting fresh with a stripper. Sofia is asked to handle it so the woman's policeman husband doesn't find out. It is obvious from the way the stripper acts that it is not his first time and when Sofia fails to get the evidence she needs to put a stop to it. She has no choice but to turn to fellow detective Aidan. Can Sofia make sure Aidan gets the job as a stripper? And if he does is he ready to go undercover and get the goods? Because having the moves down pat isn't going to be enough to get this job done.

The book was enjoyable, not spectacular, but enjoyable. It certainly was funny at times, causing me to laugh out loud. And the actions of women at a male strip club were not in the least bit exaggerated. I went to one with a bunch of ladies (loosely used) and let me tell you, women can really get down and dirty. Personally, I was embarrassed for them. In any case, it was definitely true to life as to their actions.
One thing I have to say, which I find exceptionally annoying, is that writers seem to think that once you are married and have had children, any intimacy between a husband and wife is met with a "eew". If we need an "eew", let's save it for Jaxon and Sofia. Before Sofia opens her mouth, she should consider that if there had been no "eew" there would not have been a Sofia. At Sofia's age, no one should have to say it, but, I will "grow up".
Additionally, how about some proofreading here. I haven't read any other books in this series, but if the books have gone from A to E and still have grammatical errors in the "E" book, they must be in all of the others as well. To the writer I say, have pride in your work or don't bother to have it published.

Sofia, Aiden, and Brendan all work together to get to the bottom of a blackmail scheme involving a friend of Sofia’s mom, Janet. The dialogue is hilarious and the props used to go undercover by Aiden are also hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud with the waxing required and the fact that everyone worked together. Even Fred the seagull who perches on Sofia’s deck got involved. These are light and funny, just the thing to lift your spirits from the daily stuff we must deal with. Hidden cameras do the trick. Aiden goes under cover in a male strip- club, no nudity, just pretend or is it? Usually it has been Sofia under cover because she was an actress so now she is delighted to be able to tease Aiden. Even straightlaced Brendan gets in on the act. A fun read. Can’t wait for F....

Cantrell/black E is for expoaed

Cont......of Malibu mystery series . This series once again involved a case of Maloney investigators ). Sofia mother has a friend whose being blackmailed by a male review club, but was afraid what to do because she doesn't want her cop husband to know. It has a lot of shenanigans that Aiden and Sofia are involved by going undercover and Aiden posing as one of the male review. This series was hilariously funny dealing with Aiden ego and discomfort moments for sofia. You will not be disappointed in reading this series.😉

E" Is For Exposed
: Rebecca Cantrell, Sean Black

Sofia is back in the 5th book in this series. She and her investigative cohorts infiltrait a male strip show that blackmails women who partisipated in their shows. There is plenty of adventure and action to solve this case. Some parts were a bit too raunchy for my taste.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Madeline Mrozek.

Sex & Blackmail!

Sofia, Aiden, & Brendon join together to expose (heehee) a blackmail ring at a male revue strip joint. I love the verbal play between Sofia & Aiden. I found myself laughing out loud at one particular moment (no spoilers - you’ll know when you get to it!). But humor aside, there was a lot of intrigue this time Aiden goes undercover for the investigation. The ending was very satisfying!

E is for Exposed is a laugh out loud book with tongue in cheek humor that is reminiscent of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. It's what I call "brain candy" - one can sit back, relax, and enjoy it without having to think too much about the plot or world issues.

The series centers around Sofia Salgado who is a former child TV star who used to solve mysteries on her show. Now as an adult, she is a trainee professional Private Investigator at Maloney Investigations. In this particular story, Sofia and her PI instructor, Aiden, are hired to look into the world of exotic male dancing after a friend of Sofia's mother is blackmailed after attending a show. The steps Aidan takes to go undercover as a male stripper are quite hilarious and will not be soon forgotten.

As she did with prior audiobooks in the series, Madeline Mrozek did a wonderful job narrating. She really brought the characters to life, using a variety of voices and giving each character their own distinct voice. Her smooth overtones and subtle character nuances made for a very enjoyable experience. I can't wait to listen to the next book in this amusing series!

Investigator Sofia Salgado receives a call from her mum about a new case: one of her mother’s friends is blackmailed by a stripper, and this has to remain a secret.

I absolutely love cozy mysteries, and being this one narrated by Madeline Mrozek I couldn’t resist.

The story is very entertaining, and had plenty of hilarious moments and witty comments. This is the fifth in a series, but it can also be read as a stand alone, like in my case. The characters are really well portrayed, and they feel like real people.

Something that I liked is that there’s no romance in the the story, not even on a second plane. There’s a boyfriend, but it doesn’t play any major role in the story.

Madeline Mrozek delivered a 5-star narration, as usual. She made me believe I was listening to several different people, each with their own voice and style. Madeline is definitely among my favorite narrators.

I really enjoyed this audiobook and I will definitely give the other books in the series a try.

I received a copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.

I love the cookiness of this series. The 3 PI’s are such a pleasure to listen to in solving the cases. This one was a little unexpected since It required Aidan to become a stripper and he wasn’t even first choice. Didn’t see that one coming. Usually things always go the right way in a story. It was funny that Sofia’s mom took an interest in her case of course who wouldn’t when it comes to male strippers. The twins didn’t really have a big role in this story. I hope there will be additional letter titles to this series. Keep up the good work and keep your narrator, I really enjoy how she narrates.

When her mother's next door neighbour is blackmailed by a stripper at a local all-male review, junior P.I. Sofia and her boss's son Aiden swing into action to catch the culprits. Solving case will require exposing more than they'd intended and seeing things they can't unsee, but for the reader, it's all good fun.
A great story that will definitely have me looking for more stories in this series.

This was a great book, despite there being little suspense as we knew who the baddies were all along, the takedown and prep for it was brilliant. I'd very much like to see some progression between Sofia and Aidan. Surfer boy just seems like a distraction.
